  • Great product, some limits
I have been tumbling my first batch of rocks to the specifications of this machine. The only issue I have found is, even with the tumbler only about half full, the alternate setting always ends up erroring out. Sometimes after a day, often after just a couple minutes. I have ended up just using speed setting 1 for the alternate steps because of this. Otherwise, it works great. It’s amazing how quiet it becomes once you close the lid over it. ... show more

  • Worked and then issues
This would have had 5 stars, but had an issue with grit clumping and not dissolving (tried many different things to fix). However, NG has been AMAZING in helping fix the problem. They ended up sending me out a new one, so fingers crossed it's going to do the job. It's already tumbling and I do like the newer barrel this one has, it also seems a bit quieter too. Thanks again NG you guys rock!! ... show more

  • Final stages doesn't work
Cool rhing is it comes with great instructions and everything you need to run 1 whole cycle. Expect to be doing this for 2 months though. The final stage polishing my machine would get stuck over and over about an hour in. The lower power of polish where is spins slowly one direction then switches was too much and the machine would error out. I tried using the final matieral and the second to lowest setting and have rounded but not polished stones. Very expensive to not do the final step. ... show more

  • Products great 90% of the time
The product works great so far I’ve used the bag it came with. Only problem it has no error booklet so it’ll pop up with the error icon and stop. They trial and error either the bag I got had too big of a stone or it couldn’t handle 1 lb of rock when it’s a 2lb barrel. But it’s finicky when it comes to how much is in it ... show more

  • Went well until it didn't
Now I was super excited to get this, after Amazon lost the first one, I reordered it on a whil because I have a lot of raw stones I wanted to tumble. Let me say the noise level is amazing, you can barely hear it when it running and I really appreciated that. It was super simple to set up and get running too! But..... The lid has given me multiple problems. It is doesn't want to screw on properly than it doesn't want to come off, the first time it happened I simply did as the instructions said and just ran it under hot water for a few seconds, came off well enough. But on the second cycle through with only a day left to a six day tumble I decided I wanted to see how the stones were looking and if I wanted to add a few more days. As of Friday 10-21 I have been trying for almost two HOURS to get the lid off. I have ran it under the hottest water my kitchen sink can make for ten seconds and then ten minutes. I have submerged it to try and loosen it up, in hot water. And it won't come off. I have tried prying the lid off with a fork KNOWING I will probably have to replace the stupid thing. Quite honestly the only thing left to do is take a knife and slice it open. Would I buy it again? No. Would I get it as a gift? Probably, and hope they get a better lid than I did. It was so nice until it wasn't. ... show more

  • Mostly Good
The media could not be loaded. Received and unpacked my rock tumbler and noticed a crack on the yellow lid ring. Wasn’t too upset with that. Used the tumbler and everything worked great until 20 days in (on grit 4) while using the Agitate mode. The barrel would continuously move to the back causing friction and the machine to stop. I would have to reset the barrel over and over again. A little bit of it did leak and that’s why it looks like that in the video. Overall I think it’s pretty cool and fun to do with my kid, I just think we received a bad one. ... show more

  • Issues, but nice finished product
UPDATE- Nat geo contacted me about our issues and gave me some tips to try and alleviate them. No luck it just seemed the motor was weak on the "A" polish speed. Megan in customer service at that point offered to replace our unit. On that note I upped my rating to 4 stars and if the new unit works better it will go to 5 because, even with the issues, we are more than pleased with the final product. with this type of customer support, we will be buying more products from Nat geo in the future. - We had very high hopes for this and very let down a little. We purchased this tumbler for the natgeo name. The tank will leak if it is not secured tightly, seems obvious, but when I say tight, I used a pipe wrench to stop the leaking. issue solved then came the constant stopping during cycles. it would go for a few hours or even a whole day and then stop with time remaining. this is a particular issue on the polishing speed of back and forth. On that speed it will not go even an hour without stopping. Tried to call tech support to no avail. On my own have figured some work arounds like making sure it is sitting slightly forward so the tub will not rub on the back wall and not using the "A" speed at all, so it takes time and patience, but it is really quiet and produces some really nicely polished stones. We also ordered the Natgeo grit pack #'s 1-4. ... show more
