  • 6 year old grandson loved it !
I gave this to my 6 year old grandson for Christmas, knowing he would enjoy it since he is so interested in nature, helped me plant my garden, etc. Everything seemed to be packed nicely, but one thing I noticed right away was that the directions in English was a very small pamphlet of directions, while a separate pamphlet of directions was quite large and very easy to read and follow for several other languages. But, that is a minor point. My main suggestions are related to the directions, themselves, and to the amount of contents in the packets, and a few other, perhaps nitpicking, thoughts. There is WAY too much 'soil', probably 6+ times more than is needed/recommended in the directions. (Yes, I'm sure there is extra for replanting in the future, but if you want to give away extra soil for that, then it would be better to have a separate bag for that.) The blue gravel was a correct size packet for the 3/4" amount, and the packet of 'rocks' was also a correct amount. However, for stability, I would think some gravel at the very bottom before adding soil would be a good idea. (The directions tell you to put 3/4" soil in the bottom, then sand/rocks/more soil, which is the bed for planting the seeds and placing a couple miniature figures/house on it, with a small amount of remaining rocks around the miniatures. We ended up holding back a lot more of the rocks than we should, thinking we would need a large amount to go around the miniatures. I wish we used more in the rock level, and/or put a nice amount in the bottom to start. I keep bringing up the 'weight/stability' because we came very close to having a few disastrous problems with being all finished and my grandson putting on the stickers and nearly dumping it all over, which would have been difficult to recover. Perhaps it would be a good idea to put all the stickers on FIRST before doing anything else. Also, any extra weight would be a good idea. I'm planning on gluing a weighty disk on the bottom when/if we eventually replant, or perhaps glue it to a nice wooden base. Another thing I would like to see improved is the light switch. Considering the market for this product is likely for very small hands not capable of pressing too hard, you do need a lot of CAREFUL effort to turn it on/off. We had some close calls with knocking the entire insides apart just turning on the light. I showed my grandson how to carefully hold the lid and unit firmly in one hand while pushing inward very hard to use the light. A button on the TOP of the lid, rather than the side, would solve this problem. As far as the recharging/micro USB, most kids today are familiar with doing that. I should mention to everyone that while you do need to recharge the light, a power supply is NOT included, so you will have to use one from some other device. While we are all used to 'Batteries Not Included', I'm not sure that includes 'no way to recharge a light unless you provide your own equipment'.... So, for those reasons and those reasons only, I'm taking a STAR away. Otherwise, a fine product and I would buy it again to send as a gift (Actually, I did buy another for my 7 year old niece, but haven't heard how that turned out yet.), but I would definitely first have it delivered directly to me, and then modify it with the weighty wooden base, throw in the charging equipment (always have some extras lying around from old cell phones or cameras) and probably add some of my own direction recommendations before re-boxing/wrapping it. ... show more

  • Terrarium grew mold
The product is easy enough to assemble. The dirt was open in the box and got everywhere. Luckily they sent plenty and we were still able to assemble the terrarium. The light works, but we never use it. The issue we had was mold growing in the terrarium. We followed the directions exactly, so I’m not sure why it ended up molding inside. The seeds grew quickly. We’re going to throw it away. We kept it to see what happens with the mold. It’s a cute idea, but I wouldn’t waste your money. If you can get it on sale for $10 or so, it makes a fun short term science experiment, especially if you’re studying mold. ... show more

  • Easy to do together
Bought as a Christmas gift and my son loved getting to put everything in it and watching the seeds grow. Only issue is the seeds can only be pushed down so far so at the beginning they were growing above the dirt and eventually settled. They grow very fast and I have had to keep trimming them because they end up blocking the nightlight inside or they start growing out of the holes in the lid. After a little while my son has lost interest in it but was still fun to watch it grow. ... show more

  • It was fun for my son and me 😁
We just made ours and will see how it grows so no complaints. It was a nice cute creative activity for us to do together especially since he enjoys science. We even added some of our own stickers. Stickers they give are like window type so wetting them might help to restick.
