1. Not sure where people think you need to remove the seed rocks, don’t do that. It glows on the illuminated stand just fine with the CLEAR glass seed rock. 2. Use mineral water or regular tap water. Do not use distilled water, the crystals won’t grow as tall as with mineral or tap water. We used mineralized and softened well water and these grow very nicely. 3. My 8yo daughter is into science experiments and loved this kit. She followed the instructions and I just helped her with the hot water part. She came home from school and observed it everyday to record its growth. At the end the crystals looked like the picture just a little more cloudy which she didn’t mind. Purchased this as a gift. I was a little concerned when I opened the box to check it and there was dust inside. All of the packages were sealed. However, the rock specimen bag is a small nondescript clear plastic bag with a tiny hole punched in it. I'm not sure why there was a hole punched in it, but it was the source of the dust. I plan to gift this within a month, but I do have some lingering quality concerns since all of the growing powder doesn't have the same consistency.
