We replaced our kitchen table with this attractive unit which adds counter space, shelf space and cabinet space to our kitchen. The fold up counter extension provides a solid eating area for two. When more seating is needed, we use our dining room (which wasn't being used when we had the kitchen table.) The unit was shipped in two very heavy boxes which arrived on two separate days. I met the UPS guy each day with my hand truck and helped him get them off the truck. Two people are definitely needed to move a single box, and I don't know why they were shipped in a truck with only one driver. Once the boxes were safely on the kitchen floor, we took our time and had the unit fully assembled in about 4 hours. Instructions were accurate and all of the parts were included. I did not replace any of the cam inserts that others have complained about. They didn't appear to be the same quality as other cams I've used, but they all worked fine for this application. Assembly definitely takes 2 people. The granite counter top is very heavy and is put on last. Overall, this is a very solid and high quality piece of furniture that should last a very long time.

My partner and I got this becuase we have a square kitchen and needed a table, storage, and a space to prepare food. This is all three and more. It is well built, sturdy, solid wood, and the granite adds a lot to make it look amazing. I am still impressed by how well it works. There is a part on one side (opposide of the drawer and cabinets) that extends so you can have seating. This is easy to pop up, but very difficult to take down (i.e. let the extension hang vertically). This is perfect for us as I was worried about the extension not being supported (it is very sturdy). We also don't need to put it down ever. Just wanted to make a note of this. Assembly: I put this together myself. I am pretty handy and have built many pieces of furniture before (Ikea and the like) and this was very easy for me. It will require two people just because of the weight of the pieces (solid wood). Be careful when you put on the granite top at the end as it is pretty heavy. Overall, the instuctions were straightforward and it was easy to build. Note that this is very heavy, so make sure to thank your delivery person. :)

We purchased this island for a small kitchen space to replace a table. I had been looking at islands for a long time and finally decided on this because of the high reviews on quality. It is a heavy piece and takes two people to assemble. We only had one issue with a screw that was not quite long enough but was able to work out. I treated the granite with a spray protector. We also purchased a mason jar lighting set (5 hanging lights) that fits perfect over the length of the island. Very happy with island and would recommend I wanted to follow up now that we have been using this island now for approximately six months. I had read where other reviewers had warned about stains which is why I bought the spray on protector. I did not know that lemon juice or any citrus juice will damage granite despite the protective spray. I prepped lemon bars on the granite and in the time it took to mix and put in oven the lemon juice permanently damaged the granite. There are circles from the bottom of the bowl and dots that cannot be removed. I tied baking soda paste but that just lightened the granite. Had I known this I would have prepped on my kitchen counters which are just laminate. I still love the island and would purchase again. I was hoping the manufacturer might sell just the top of the island so I could replace it but I don’t see that is an option.

For the review police who like to inspect previous reviews for any hint of suspicious intent, you will have to suck it up with this one being my first post. sorry. **SPOILER ALERT** The island survives in the end, barely. So, my wife wanted it, the nantucket island 88-5033-941, so I got it, as a surprise; surprise is a good place to start as the surprise was ruined by missing cam lock screw mounts that fasten the top to the base. Their customer support completed my sentence when I called to detail what was missing. They responded promptly with the missing plastic mounts and I rec'd the items today and was finally able to complete the surprise that was taking up much of the living room for nearly two weeks. Now that it is assembled I declare: Do not underestimate the assembly of this item. I did it by myself and I do NOT recommend it. If you are alone and have any issues with patience, fitness, and/or caressing homicidal thoughts, I recommend finding a helper. With that said, the parts are labeled and figuring out what goes where is straightforward. It took me at least 2.5 hours, and the top is heavy. I consider this more difficult than assembling a bowflex m5. The overall impression now that the long-lost-surprise is assembled is that it is not worth $800, with taxes. I do not consider it as functional as envisioned. The good bit: Once assembled it is solid and I think most components are not particle board. It is attractive and a quality item. The customer support is wonderful. The bad bits: The following is the list of very important care instructions provided on the last page 1. Never use glass cleaner on finished furniture 2. Never allow liquids of any kind to remain on the furniture 3. Do not write directly on the surface. (I assume they mean like with one sheet, not taking a sharpie to the surface.) 4. Do not place in direct sunlight 5. Do not use commercial waxes and polishes 6. Do not place hot objects on surface 7. Do not use rubber based place mats 8. Use a soft cloth moistened in lukewarm soap and water, then buff with a dry clean cloth (to clean the island). NOTE: I understand that most of the items listed are nice to know and not a downer. I put them all there as support overall for my frame of mind regarding function. After reading these care instructions I admit I am not sure what I can do with it. No hot objects or liquid on a kitchen island? I see another reviewer mentions that anything moist left stains the granite and recommended a sealant. Otherwise, my wife says she wants to put a chopping block on it, and I guess that would be about it unless I cover the thing with a non-rubber material kind of defeating having a HEAVY CUTE granite top. Disappointment is where I am with this thing, but it does hold the books nicely on the side shelves. The effort to distress, by denting, is as close to idiotic as I have ever seen. The person or thing that did it put mostly symmetrical dents. For example, looking at a door or drawer there is one dent on the top and bottom and two on each side. Across the top the dents look far from random in the same pattern as the other areas but with more dents. In other words, someone has missed the boat for what distressed looks like. We are sold a non-random unnatural application of distressed and therefore does NOT look distressed. Irritating is the word that comes to mind for why someone believes we all desire to have fake dents hammered into new furniture. Did I say it is heavy and one of the reasons you should get the missing cam lock screw mounts. If you ever have to move it, you will be better off having all eight screws attached. The base is somewhat dependent on the top to sure up the solid nature of the item. Otherwise, the top is heavy enough and with pegs will not move if missing a few of the screws. So the big questions: would I buy it again? can I recommend it? I would buy it again because the wife wants it, but I would not purchase this item again otherwise. I cannot recommend it unless the buyer understands that, imo, it is more decorative than functional without taking precautions like sealant and non-rubber protection. Again, no agenda. I do not work for the company nor do I work for a competitor. This review should show that I purchased it through amazon.com. I think 4* is fair given some will argue that of course you cannot get a kitchen island wet or dare put anything close to hot on it; I should have known that going in.

Really impressed with this island. Assembly time approximately 3 hours. Directions(pictures) easy to follow and once assembled very heavy and sturdy. Only thing we did not according to directions was we did not attach fold down leaf to the top before placing it on island which made it easier to handle and line up. We then attached the leaf to the top. Great item and adds lots of storage to my kitchen

Opening the two boxes and separating all the pieces was so intimidating. There were so many pieces. I did not think I was going to be able to "build" this kitchen island. The pieces are well marked. I am not exactly a handy person, but being on a budget, I had to give it a shot on my own. I followed the well written instructions step by step. It took me a good 5 hours to get it built. The only thing I could not do by myself was to lift the top as it is extremely heavy. There are a couple of "scuffs" from shipping on it and i called the toll free number and they are sending me a touch up pen. The island is beautiful, heavy and nicely made if I do say so myself. I would highly recommend this item and I would purchase items made by this company again.

This island is a perfect fit for my kitchen space. You will definitely need assistance with the assembly especially when it comes to lifting the countertop part - it took me, my husband and 2 sons to get this up. The island is sturdy and the storage space is amazing - I use the cabinets to house my appliances but still deciding what to use the side shelves for. There were nicks and scratches on the wood that isn’t a major deal since it’s supposed to be distressed. I’ve gotten compliments on this island - no one believes it was purchased from Amazon and something I had to assemble; everyone believes this was built in my kitchen since it fits so perfectly. I read the reviews prior to purchasing and was warned about the stains that are left behind on the granite from glasses however I forgot to purchase the solvent that would eliminate that issue. Outside of the minor issues, this is a great island and I’m definitely satisfied with my purchase!

I read every review! I bought the additional granite sealer. I knew the drawer may have some issues. I thought I was prepared. But to be completely honest, I would not buy or recommend this product. I spent $1000 on this and although for some people that may not be a big purchase, for me it was. I have had this piece for 2 months. I followed the directions to a T. I have built tons of furniture over the years. It’s a beautiful looking island! But the functionality of this is useless. At first I thought I did something wrong. So I brought in someone to look over the piece and tell me what I did wrong. None of the shelves stayed put. ALL OF THEM FELL! Constantly! The drawer was not rolling perfectly. So we added glue to the pegs that hold the shelves and adjusted the drawer so it rolls smooth. I allowed the glue to cure overnight even though it only needed an hour. I put everything back on the shelves and walked away. 10 mins later the shelf fell. The guy who looked it over said I didn’t do anything wrong it’s just not built well. Now I can understand having to modify a $100 piece of furniture from Walmart. But the amount of modifications needed for an island that is $1000 is ridiculous in my opinion. IMO keep looking!
