  • Solid, heavy and attractive addition to our kitchen
Size: unspecified Color: Black
We replaced our kitchen table with this attractive unit which adds counter space, shelf space and cabinet space to our kitchen. The fold up counter extension provides a solid eating area for two. When more seating is needed, we use our dining room (which wasn't being used when we had the kitchen table.) The unit was shipped in two very heavy boxes which arrived on two separate days. I met the UPS guy each day with my hand truck and helped him get them off the truck. Two people are definitely needed to move a single box, and I don't know why they were shipped in a truck with only one driver. Once the boxes were safely on the kitchen floor, we took our time and had the unit fully assembled in about 4 hours. Instructions were accurate and all of the parts were included. I did not replace any of the cam inserts that others have complained about. They didn't appear to be the same quality as other cams I've used, but they all worked fine for this application. Assembly definitely takes 2 people. The granite counter top is very heavy and is put on last. Overall, this is a very solid and high quality piece of furniture that should last a very long time. ... show more

  • This is an amazing piece of furnture
Size: unspecified Color: Black
My partner and I got this becuase we have a square kitchen and needed a table, storage, and a space to prepare food. This is all three and more. It is well built, sturdy, solid wood, and the granite adds a lot to make it look amazing. I am still impressed by how well it works. There is a part on one side (opposide of the drawer and cabinets) that extends so you can have seating. This is easy to pop up, but very difficult to take down (i.e. let the extension hang vertically). This is perfect for us as I was worried about the extension not being supported (it is very sturdy). We also don't need to put it down ever. Just wanted to make a note of this. Assembly: I put this together myself. I am pretty handy and have built many pieces of furniture before (Ikea and the like) and this was very easy for me. It will require two people just because of the weight of the pieces (solid wood). Be careful when you put on the granite top at the end as it is pretty heavy. Overall, the instuctions were straightforward and it was easy to build. Note that this is very heavy, so make sure to thank your delivery person. :) ... show more

  • Trust the reviews.
Like I said, trust the reviews. Solid piece of furniture. I won't go too in depth here because no one cares, but long story short, I put this together alone (at least 98% of it), and it was tough. The only part I had help with was when I had my gf help lift the granite top onto the base, which was difficult even with the two of us, and will say that the last granite top piece requires two people - it's not possible to do alone - and I'm a 200lb 28-year old male who lifts at the gym weekly who is saying this. Just know that ahead of time. I'll also say this... the two boxes that these came in were VERY heavy. My apartment has no elevator. Even with a handtruck, getting these boxes up apartment stairs alone is nearly impossible. So if you're in my situation, only use a handtruck to get the boxes to the bottom of your stairs. From here, open the boxes up, and then carry the wood pieces individually up the stairs to your room. This is the easiest way to do it. Don't try - like I did - to handtruck the boxes up the stairs - it's not worth your back or troubles. Lastly, seal the granite before putting anything on it. Go to HomeDepot or Lowes and buy some granite sealer to do this. Don't freak out about having to do this, because I know you - like I did - are freaking out this very moment when reading that you need to "seal" the granite. Anyone can do it. You just pour some sealer on the granite and rub it in with a rag. No big deal. Why seal it? Because I read reviews on here about people having water or liquid stains appear on the granite from barely leaving a filled cup on the granite for a few hours. Not worth having this happen or risking it if you just spent 800 bucks on this thing. I also bought some wood oil polisher for the wood portion, just to protect it. Same deal - you pour it on and rub it in. Wood polisher isn't mandatory obviously, but the granite sealer probably is. For both the granite sealer and (optional) wood polisher, you probably want to do 2 coats. That's all I have to say. Hopefully my review helps someone. Check out my apartment photo for an idea of what you're getting yourself into. This is my first review on Amazon, but I decided to write one simply because you should really know everything I wrote before it arrives, and also because it's a great product. ... show more
