    • Effort to remove existing piston not commensurate with instructions
The kit comes with a lovely pair of compression collars that you're intended to use with the supplied screws to ease the existing piston from the chair. This didn't match the memory of my last experience, but I was happy to give it a try. About an hour later with no luck getting the piston to really let go, I flipped around youtube to find the old method of doing things. This worked: Find the biggest pipe wrench you own. Get a good grip on the piston near the seat. Lean in with every big of your weight, bouncing on it if you have to. As a large adult male, it only took a good two minutes of this before things started moving. I even managed not to fall on my face once the piston let go. Yay! The instructions and the video optimistically just have you tapping the base to remove the bottom of the piston. A three pound deadblow hammer didn't have much luck. Eventually I took the base to my shop, put the piston in a vice with the wheels up and took a five pound maul to it. It let go after a significant number of stout blows. Afterwards, the new piston eased into the base, and the chair onto the top of the piston with grace and beauty. Win! I wish you luck with the supplied parts for removing the piston. If not, the following video may provide some inspiration. After inspiration, find something to apply more force. Put it in and not more sinking. I tried another one in the past that didn't last long so time will tell Also the cylinder sits close to the floor and can drag.

    • Rings for removal of old cylinder do not fit.
The 2 included rings for removal of old cylinder are too big and will not clamp around the cylinder stem. They are even too big for the cylinder that ships with the kit, hence cannot be used if you ever want to remove the new cylinder. Disappointing as you pay for the parts, and not being able to use them means you'll be finding a large pipe wrench to remove the old cylinder from the seat base. Once installed, required adjustment of the Aeron chair set screw, but the product seems to work well and the "wobble" from the worn out cylinder is no longer an issue. ... show more

Installed this replacement cylinder on my Aeron chair easily. Had to adjust the set screw at the actuator to the chair up/down lever using a separate hex wrench size. After a week it works perfectly.

Fits Herman Miller Aeron Classic perfectly. You will only have to adjust the tightness of the screw attached to lever to your preferred tension. I already had the previous gas cylinder removed so I did not need to use any of the provided tools. Just slide into place, adjust the screw and it was ready to use. ... show more

    • Proper replacement
This is a near perfect replacement for the Aeron classic, the only difference being that the bottom sits a little closer to the floor. Good feel and slight bounce, stable, and a proper height range.
