I needed extra-long and strong garden stakes to pin a heavy garden hose to some pretty hard, dry Texas dirt. These are strong, and the rounded end is perfect for a thick hose. At 12-inches, these were longer than needed, and thus hard to push in all the way. Because of their rounded ends, I knew that pounding on them with a mallet would deform them, so I lopped off two inches from each prong with a metal cutter, making the cut at a slant, just like these come, to go in easier. Perfect. These are strong, but be realistic; if you plan to pound them all the way down in really hard soil, or rocky soil, with a hammer or mallet, you're going to deform them. In that case, you'd be better off getting squared off ends and tapping each side alternately, very carefully. Or perhaps soak the soil first and let it seep down. Wear gloves to push. If they are too long, using a husky metal cutter to shorten. For soft garden soil, the extra length is perfect for holding things down.

I really like this item of stakes. I have a dog pen that's around 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. Before I purchased this item, strong Tornado winds around 75 to over 100 mph, would tip the gate over. I got these stakes , put them around my dog gate and strong winds came by again through the night. Next morning, my dog gate was still standing stronger than ever. I tried to shake it and it would not move. If you live in a windy state and need something to hold down heavy products, get these stakes. I like them because they push deeply into the ground, makes your items very sturdy and you have no worries though the night and when you get up the next morning your gate will still be there. I also, have another yard fence I want to put these around also. Buy them, you won't regret. I will be buying more as soon as my other yard gate is done.
