Here's the high level picture: If you're a budding coffee enthusiast looking to dip your toe into enthusiast gear, I'd look elsewhere - perhaps at some of the excellent and affordable manual grinders you can find on this site. But if you're not so serious about coffee and just want your morning cup of joe to be made with fresh-ground coffee instead of inevitably-rancid preground, then this is a great product for you. Let's start from the top. First of all, this is a nice-looking machine, which is no mean feat. It has a unified and cozy color palette that's clearly been designed to look nice with or without coffee in the machine. That attention to detail is certainly appreciated. When we get to functionality, things get a little dicier. Make no mistake - this will grind coffee. It will take whole big beans and break it down into smaller chunks, and I feel quite confident in saying that you could expect it to do so for a long time without complaint. Hence my comment about the Mr. Coffee - I feel confident in saying that what's coming out of the Mulli Update is going to beat the brakes off of something preground, and it'll let you sample the wide world of specialty roasted coffee without changing up your morning routine too much. That alone is worth celebrating! But it's not for an enthusiast, and it comes down to one simple reason: grind consistency. As the burrs spin, I can hear the oscillation in the burr-set. That means that some coffee gets ground with a larger gap between the burrs, and some gets ground with a smaller gap between the burrs. Nice grinders will bolster the shaft of the spinning burr so that it can't wobble. I understand the price constraints around building a product such as this at a price point such as this, and it looks like some design consideration did go into mitigating this problem, but three skinny plastic feet, however long-lasting, will simply not match up to the long solid-metal machined support legs that I find in my manual grinder. The upshot of that is this: When I look at the coffee, it has larger chunks than I'd like in it, even at the smallest setting, ones that I don't see out of my manual grinder. That's one more point why this isn't for enthusiasts - 5 grind settings is simply not enough. I would also point out the usage of ceramic, rather than stainless steel burrs, but at this price point, offering an automatic grinder, that is a dumb nit to pick. They seem like perfectly fine burrs, and I have no doubt that, if consistently centered, they would produce a fine grind. The manual grinding feature is certainly functional, but, I mean... why bother? Let the machine do the work. That's one of the strong points of this machine - an automatic grinder is a very nice thing to have. Why throw that functionality away? So where does that leave us? If you're buying pre-ground coffee at the grocery store, do yourself a favor and pick this machine up. It's easy as pie to use, and you can get to taste the difference between pre-ground and non-rancid coffee. It's a killer deal for an automatic grinder. If you're looking to really dive into the world of coffee, I'd look for a hand grinder first.

I’ve read the reviews and, for the most part, agree with them. My first unit was also stuck on red and wouldn’t work. However, the replacement was just fine. Grind size is only 5 notches but enough for a good cup of pour over. As seen in the picture, the small grind was suitable for a quick espresso but grind consistency is variable. It is slow and perfect for vacation- which is my intended use. Handle for low battery use is helpful BUT be careful and hold everything down tightly. I spilled beans all over the place. Form and style are quite nice - would be great if a carry bag was included to keep everything together. Like the ability to use a lid on the lower container - can store whole beans in anticipation of tomorrow morning’s brew. Lastly, they also include a few single use pour over filters/contraption. I’ve seen them on Japanese pre-ground single cup coffee packages but not stand alone.

I received this Burr coffee grinder well packaged. Out of the box charged with included usb-c cable and I got a flashing blue light and charged until all 4 blue indicators stayed on. I disconnected the cable and filled then long press the power button and I only get 4 red indicator lights that stay on solid and no movement. I connected charger again and get 4 blue light indicators that stay on solid. I attempted multiple times, with short press long press on the power button, no movement, no sound, nothing but 4 solid red lights. I took it apart to check connectors and they are properly connected to the motor. Then I attempted to manually rotate the motor square drive shaft and it doesn't move at all and appears to be glued to the housing preventing it from moving. Poor product quality control.
