  • Your only real "high-end" GPU option for Mini-ITX + Linux
This card is reviewed in light of its initial June 2023 purchase, meaning after roughly half a year of daily usage. So, why this card in particular? At ‎325 x 56 x 140 mm, this is essentially the only 7900 XTX card that can fit comfortably in most Mini-ITX cases. Key word: Comfortably. The vast majority of 7900 XTXs on the market are >330mm long and/or >60mm thick. Some are indeed very short, such as the Sapphire Nitro Plus Vapor-X at a length of 320mm, but that comes at the cost of a 3.5 (essentially 4) slot PCI thickness of 71.6mm, which is much too fat even for Mini-ITX cases that—in theory—permit 4 PCI slot cards. Trust me in that you are better off not testing those case-manufacturer claims of 4 PCI slot GPU support. Thinner is just safer. Beyond that my only other consideration was Linux support. It isn't as if NVIDIA doesn't Linux at all, but their Linux drivers and support is all surprisingly spotty compared to AMD, and moreover the only card they have within the same price-performance-profile (RTX 4080) offers generally worse rasterisation performance and (more critically) all come in form factors that are either way too long or way too fat to comfortably fit in most Mini-ITX cases, regardless of AIB partner you happen to go with. AMD vs NVIDIA aside, MSI really does have the market cornered here in terms of a high end GPU that's fairly thin and also not too long with this product. For that reason I shelled out the initial ~$1,100 price which put it at a premium compared to other 7900 XTX brands on the market. After 6 months of usage within a Linux gaming machine I can say that the card has function flawlessly in that role in terms of performance, married to a 7800X3D. It is able to play the most demanding modern games at 1440p with max or near max setting and maintain my usual frame-cap of 144fps with no significant drops. Just leave ray-tracing off ;) Noise is minimal. The fans are more quite than the ancient EVGA 1080Ti I upgraded from and while there is some slight capacitor whine on initial load it tends to taper off below ambient fan-noise fairly quickly. Over all an excellent card and would recommend for anyone with similar strict requirements. ... show more

  • Extremely powerful GPU
This thing is HUGE, but it runs fairly quiet and cool compared to previous gen cards and has been very reliable while playing any game I throw at it without any issues. I wish AMD would fix their adrenaline software as that occasionally bugs out saving clips, but there is 3rd party software solutions for that. ... show more

  • Excellent card on sale and if you're upgrading from the previous generation
I upgraded from an RX 6800 (which was a hand-me-down) to this card as I intend to begin streaming and video editing soon, along with wanting to run/play games at more demanding thresholds. Obviously that card still holds up well today, but not only was it from a pre-built prior to going into my system, it was also a reference card, meaning it's limited in power to an extent compared to others by other manufacturers. I haven't had time to fully test it out yet, but I can absolutely say that it easily gives much more consistent and reliable performance across various games, like Forza Horizon 5, Beamng.Drive, SnowRunner, and No Man's Sky. And if you emulate games, offering much better performance, especially if you're upscaling or using custom texture packs for increased detail on older games, like Gran Turismo 4, Forza Horizon 1, Forza Motorsport 4, or Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix. (god I swear those games are the golden era of their series, not even including nfs most wanted or underground 2) I'd recommend to get it when its on sale (purchased it for 930$ usd) which is a more fair price in my opinion, plus it comes with the premium version of Starfield (99.99$ usd) when it comes out. Do mind that if you intend to give the game to a friend if it isn't your kind of game and you're getting this card for yourself, to first redeem it through AMD's website, and then once the steam key is available give it to them that way, as AMD has a checker in place that scans for the GPU installed to ensure that it's the same one you're redeeming the code for. Once the steam key is available though, it shouldn't be an issue. Overall I'd say (and hoping) that this will be an excellent card for years to come, likely that I won't upgrade from this GPU for at the very least the next five years. ... show more

  • Best GPU I've had so far.
Got it as a replacement for a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6700 XT as I got a new ASUS 4K monitor and my previous GPU was not doing the job with newer games. So far, this GPU feels like a beast. Gets +80 FPS in most games at Ultra settings without RT (I'm not a RT fan, that's why I went for this instead of a 4080, and also a 6700 XT instead of a 3070Ti). And +100 FPS in most games with FSR Blanced or Performance enabled. I personally don't mind FPS count but high quality and fidelity on graphics with my games (I don't play eSports other than Fortnite with some friends). The noise on fans isn't noticeable at all, it doesn't get that hot as I expected (75c/80c on GPU temps and 85c/90c on hotspot). Regarding size, I was expecting a big GPU so this was no surprise. It's big although not as big as the 4090 I saw on the local retailer, so I got myself prepared and also got the EZDIY-FAB PCIe 4.0 GPU Mount Bracket with ARGB to avoid issues with my small case. I don't see myself replacing my GPU in the next 5 years. Best purchase ever. ... show more

  • Blazing fast graphics card
Overall extremely happy with my purchase of the MSI 7900 XTX graphics card. Card is amazing fast, and I love how it has so many output ports, at very fast refresh rates. AMD software is very good. Easy to use, and the options are clear and easy to set up. Quality of the software, image quality, and drivers are just as important as overall frame rate speed, and this card has been a wonderful, stable performer. ... show more

  • Beware AMD drivers
If you're lucky you'll have no problems with AMD's drivers. Though if you're like the rest of us you'll be plagued by the constant issues caused by the horrible drivers. This thing has caused me nothing but pain since I bought it.
