I have tried a few different bait stations and this one has what I consider one to be one of the better inside layouts. I use the bait blocks that sit on the rods and I like how many I can fit into this bait station. Within a few days of putting this out and filling it with bait I have already collected a few dead rats in the area. It is kind of difficult to open with the included "keys". If the keys were just an inch or two longer it would be easier to pry the lid open. Other than that this is a good value when compared to bait stations that cost more. I think the rats spend more time in this bait station because of the layout and they eat more bait. ... show more

Amazing product!I started with the electric shock type. Thought I had 2rats.1 went in but backed out before getting strong enough shock to kill. After that they will not go near it. Moved on to old fashion rat traps but now I am seeing baby rats. These things breed like nothing else.I could only put traps up high because of my dogs.So baby rats aren't climbing yet.Those baby rats had more baby rats.Don't believe you can saturate cotton balls with peppermint oil. You will just be providing them with a comfy bed in which to raise baby rats. These work and the poison in the box so no chance of dogs accidently ingesting.This does not come with bait,so I also bought Victor Rat Bait Station because it came with 6 additional bait. The rats loved this bait.Before the rats would hide during day but first day I put boxes down I could hear at least 1rat entering the box to eat many times til about 11 AM. I believe they feel safe in the box while eating. Result I found a dead rat everyday. Careful if you have pets. The rats will die in plain sight on your floors.End of story: I set these out Jun 26th and I do not have rats anymore. I can not say enough great things abt this product.I did see complaints abt durability ,but it has held up well enough so far. ... show more

    • Cheap mid-range price point rodent bait station

The Protecta LP are better than these, and cost about the same. I live in a "hillside" area that has critters. My new puppy was able to shake the retainer bar out. So, I cannot recommend these. Stopped using. These are a mid-range price point rodent bait station. There are heavier duty ones like Wilco Distributors 39000 Bait Station that cost twice as much. I have owned a Wilco for years and use around my big dog. These are lighter than that, but quite sturdy. And. there are even lighter ones, dirt cheap, that are as stable as a balloon in a breeze. These are a nicely priced mid-point. Being able to open and lock these is a great feature for replacing or examining baits. I assembled/baited and shook vigorously, and could not get the bait out. The keys work fine. The bar secures the baits. They do work and in a few days I stopped hearing rats and one dying one was wandering around. The mystery piece is a bracket which allows you to attach the bracket to a wall with your screws, if desired. There are grooves to slide the trap into the bracket. Doing so would secure the station to a wall or whatever. I ordered one pair of these and a bucket of TomCat baits. Now that I have them, I plan to add more. Rodents can damage wiring, destroy appliances, chew furniture, cause vile odors, stink and carry cholera, scabies, and the plague. These are for outside, garage and shed I use smaller ones inside. Tip: if you lose a bar, you can get heavy pliers and a wire hanger, and make your own, cut as long as will fit, bent at both ends after you put bait on it. Then securely place into the station. Edit: I just opened one that was sitting in sunshine, and the hinges are funky cheap and not aligned well. I was able to close it again. But I ordered 6 Protecta LP. I will still use these, probably inside my garage. You NEED to check and replace consumed bait blocks about every 90 days. After 6 months, all 9 of mine outdoors were EMPTY. A bucket of the bait blocks is very handy to have on hand. If you have a rodent problem your baits will disappear (they get eaten) and your rodents will disappear, too. Throw any dead ones you find away, they are toxic. ... show more

Very small product but other than that I am happy with it. Downsides is it only fits 4 baits so you will have to change them more often if you have mouse problems.

    • Simple, secure, and effective tool

Simple, secure, and effective in dispatching poison bait to the tree rats that used to live on my property. The 2 locking mechanisms keep the box locked at all times and require you to have both keys to open and expose the poison inside. I have a dog and was very hesitant to use these as I was afraid she might get 'curious' and start poking her nose where it didn't belong....to give me some peace of mind, I used very large HVAC duct Zip ties to go around each box to keep them from opening up in anyway. Once I opened the boxes a few times to check the bait level over the first 2 weeks, I was confident that the locks on the boxes were sufficient and stopped using the zip ties altogether. That being said, I still suggest that you keep the boxes out of the reach of your pets and/or screw the boxes down securely so your pets cannot move the boxes around which could expose them to small crumbs of bait left inside which could fall out of the entry holes if allowed to be tumbled around. **Make sure you wear gloves when handling the poison bait and discard the gloves and wash your hands thoroughly after you are done to avoid any unintended exposure. ... show more

We cleared some acreage last year to build our house and the mice are pretty pissed about it. Seeking revenge they have joined forces and infested our new home. We've found nests and hidden troves of dog chow stashed around the house which we've used as clues for where to place the bait stations. The design of these stations allows for pins to set the baits on but it will only hold half sticks in that configuration. If you just toss the pins you can lay full bait sticks in the space available without issue. I have also purchased several bags of mothballs to stage about the basement to make the place less comfortable for them. Together I'm hoping to move these little creeps out of our house. ... show more
