Admit it, you’re reading this because 2020 sucks and you are warming up to the idea of prepping. Don’t worry, we know you don’t live in a bunker, you just want to have some emergency food on hand. It’s cool, no one is judging you. Mountain House chicken and rice is pretty much the gold standard of freeze dried food. Between this and their Chili Mac, you can’t go wrong. The flavor is good and the portions are about right for normal (seriously normal) servings. If you are new to freeze dried food, get a single serving a try it before buying a number 10 can of it. If you already know you like the flavor, carry on, get the big can. It’s much more affordable than buying the individual packages. The cans stack well and usually offer, realistically 8 servings per can. Count on 4 meals for 2 people per can. Just remember, this is freeze dried food. If you are used to large meals, this may be an adjustment for you. It’s also important to know how much sodium is in this stuff. It’s good for emergencies or for camping for a couple of days but it’s definitely not health food and the sodium content, not just salt but preservative sodium, is high. 730mg per cup (1 serving) for the chicken and rice. It is gluten free which is good, just make sure to read the labels and know your dietary needs when planning for emergencies. Overall Mountain House is good emergency food. Definitely better flavor than MREs and with a 25 year shelf life, it’s good to set a few cans aside for that unforeseen flood, snowstorm, global pandemic, whatever. ... show more

Most of these emergency food rations are that... Emergency, don't be picky. Mountain house, however, is rather tasty. We use it all the time for quick camping trips. Easy to prepare, tastes great.

Love the seasonings used in this product and how easy it is to prepare. Just wish it went on sale more often. The regular price is too high, IMO.

Bought 3x #10 Cans to store for emergency use. Expiration on my #10 cans range between June-September, 2050. It was well worth the investment for the extra peace of mind (roughly $0.62 a year per can). I don't plan on opening them up for the next 29 years unless needed, so I can't say much about the flavor.     • 30yr shelf life is a HUGE savings so I don't have to replace my emergecy food every 3-10 years.
I haven't tried a huge assortment of camping/emergency food in the last 20yrs but this is far better than anything I've had so far. It is better than frozen dinner quality, and is almost on par with average diner food which is amazing since it is freeze dried and has a shelf life of 30 years! I bought 2 items from each of the 5 the top brands of emergency food to try out because I need to restock my emergency supplies soon since my current batch of food expires this year, and this is the best out of the 5 top brands of emergency food, and far better than anything made 10yrs ago which is what I'm replacing. I'll buy 10 of these and 10 Beef Stroganoff now, then buy 1 more of both every year rotating my supply by eating 1 of the oldest cans of each while replacing it with a new can each year so none of my stock will be older than 10yrs, giving me a minimum of 20yrs of remaining shelf life at all times! ... show more

It’s great to bring along some thing that is lightweight and not requiring refrigeration.
