We went on a trip and needed a trustworthy way to feed our dog. I had purchased an automatic dog feeder in the past but found that if the dog knocked into it or a cat decided to jump on it, the weight would reset and the feeder would no longer go off. We invested in this product and are so happy we did. I ended up buying puppy chow because the bits were smaller than the dog food our pupper normally ate. It worked wonderfully. We did fashion a “surround” for it using zip ties and screen so the food wouldn’t go flying far (that would just be mean!). I’m sure our dog would’ve been up to the challenge of finding all the pieces, but we had it fall just below the unit in a relatively nice pile. The unit was very easy to assemble, had no missing parts, and it looks good even right next to the house. The feeder is a great size and you can adjust the height of the legs as desired. It is very windy where we live and the unit didn’t tip over. It operates off of AA batteries and is extremely easy to program. There is also a “key” or “legend”, if you will, on the lid to the battery/setting compartment so you do not have to hold onto any instructions or look up how much food is dispensed in “X” number of seconds. I highly recommend either for use as a deer feeder or dog food feeder. :) ... show more

This thing is great. Advice from friends and family was buy a feeder with a metal spinner (plastic ones break quickly). This was a great deal on one with a metal spinner. Install took about 20 min (I work with tools daily). The hardest part is putting together the barrel- just put all the bolts in loosely- then tighten them down at the end. The feet are no issue and the controller is great. It will hold like 5 50lb bags of corn. I usually put 2-3 in at a time. No issues- works great. Super easy and super impressed. My only complaint- if I am being picky- is that it doesn’t throw the corn very far. But if it did- you would have such a scarce amount in one place- you would have to allow it to feed for quite some time. It would be cool if there were an adjustment on the controller to allow for longer throws and then you could adjust for a longer feed time (which it does) to compensate. I understand that would take more pieces in the spinner and a more advanced controller resulting in a slightly higher price tag. But for my first feeder, for the price, this thing blows me away. ... show more

I give it 4 Stars because people don’t read 5 Star ratings as much. ***** This is not my first Mountie. I specifically like the feeder timing unit which I have on other feeders. 2 things I like most… and you will too… the unit is reliable for multiple seasons (My home year-round feeder timing unit has been installed for 4 years) and the 4 AA batteries last a LONG time. These are 2 very important factors especially when you work all week and use those precious few weekends to hunt. Nothing worse than a dead feeder that has not spun for days. ... show more

I have bought two of these deer feeders now they’re absolutely amazing and easy to set up and take down and hold about 150 pounds worth of corn. I have to say I am very surprised on how long this last on just four AA batteries I have alkaline batteries in it and even with the cold temperatures it Slings the corn with no problem. Got this to make the wifes backyard projects less of a twice a day need. Read several positive and negative thoughts before buying. Most complaints were about legs and cracking when knocked over. I just cabeled the legs to some footers I had laying around. Also, used another person's idea to add a shroud to keep the feed from flying. So far no complaints. I'll update after it runs a while or have any other feedback that changes the rating. ... show more
