I tried to replace the thermostat on my 2012 Chevy Malibu and found it is spring compression fitted in place in the housing. Most people's thumbs won't have enough strength to compress the thermostat so I can't get the old one out. Also, what's the purpose of the cardboard tube that came with the thermostat?
