I bought this as a backup phone (for road trips, beach days, etc). My daily phone is an iPhone 17E. I cannot believe how good this phone is. It is beautiful with a giant, vibrant and fast screen that I feel meets or exceeds my iPhone. The speaker is loud and clear for playing music. The camera is good for someone who just wants to take a nice photo. The phone itself feels fast - I’m swiping between apps and I don’t feel like it’s holding me back. I don’t understand where they compromised to get the phone to this price, because everything is great with it. The fingerprint reader is accurate and fast. And yes, the back is plastic, but it looks gorgeous and metal in appearance, it feels good, and you’re going to put a case on it anyway, so i actually don’t think that matters at all (should all phones go back to being plastic for the savings?). It’s comfortable to hold, and it came unlocked and was easy to set up as expected. The Motorola software seems more helpful than intrusive with a fun animation and sound when you boot up, and some helpful options. It comes with some bloatware games and apps that can be quickly uninstalled. I have to say that his phone blew me away. I like it more than my iPhone in many ways and especially for the price. Plus, if you’re into gaming and emulation: I tested my PSP, PS1, and DS games on this and they ran buttery smooth. I would buy this again and again. Motorola did amazing with this.

I needed a new phone as my old phone, s23 ultra, was dropping network connection all the time. I guess I had dropped it on accident too many times and it was to the point I was out and about for hours with no signal. All my previous phones have been motorola, I just like them. I like the interface and how there are more ways to personalize the little things in your phone. For example I like that my keyboard is red/orange. It's a fun little quirk that the phone offers. I'm not here to talk about the specs of the phone. This is a budget phone, and there are many more people well versed in specs than I. I'm leaving a review for the person who needs a reliable phone that can connect to the network, provide GPS, talk, text, and the occasional web search. Yes, I am a millennial who only needs that. I don't care if my photos aren't superstar quality. But the camera takes decent pics. This phone is good enough for most people like me. What made this such a great buy was that I needed to switch my phone ASAP and Amazon was able to get it to me in less than 24 hours. Yes, this phone can be found cheaper through companies like Straight Talk, but I have AT&T, so it being unlocked, even at a slightly higher price was still a steal. Set up (transferring from my old phone) took maybe 10 minutes, and everything was done! Very happy with everything so far, and happy to be back with motorola phones.

I bought this phone to replace my moto g9 plus. I knew there was no way this would be as great a phone. I like ho vivid the screen is and it takes really good pics and videos. I don't like the new way of navigating the phone. It is cumbersome and difficult. I assume that I will get used to it. The factory spec advertised on Amazon are misleading. It says the phone has 4g of ram when it actually only has 2g. It has a ram boost feature which is already on when you get the phone boosting it from 2-4g. It can be boosted to 6g which I really like. All in all it is a pretty decent low priced phone.

I love this phone. I actually prefer it to my Samsung Galaxy. I like the flexibility android offers compared to an IPhone. I haven't experienced any problems with it. It doesn't barge in wanting updates every time I turn around. Display is clear and bright. Responsive and a good refresh rate. I will definitely buy a Motorola again. As an owner of previous Motorola devices, I'm a little disappointed in this model. I know its a budget phone, but Motorola's build quality and QC process missed the mark on this model. I'll start with the positives and then bring up the areas of improvement. PROS -Price: This is a budget friendly Android phone. It will not break the bank. -Performance: Piggybacking off of the fact this phone is a budget model, I will still say that this phone is still speedy *enough* for everyday basic tasks. This device has a Snapdragon 680 4G SoC (more on the 4G part later). It also comes with just 4gb of RAM, though you can sort of "expand" virtually it with phone device storage up to a total of 8gb of RAM. Social Media, Texting, Media Consumption (Music/Videos/etc) & phone calls are all something that can be dealt with easily with the Moto G Play 2024. Even light gaming would be okay on this device. I'm not talking Genshin or anything...maybe Pokémon Go or lighter. -Color: Not gonna lie, this metallic blue looks *awesome* IMO. I'm a big fan of it. This phone is also all plastic. From the rear to the mid and even up to near the front of the phone. Though I will say the rear has a matte finish and doesn't slip from your hands, and doesn't look too cheap on the whole. -Battery: 5000mah battery in this phone coupled with a lower power SoC means you should get some decent battery life out of it. -Audio Options: Again, for a budget phone, this thing isn't bad. Headphone jack, and the down firing speaker sounds pretty good. Also has Dolby Atmos options. -Expandable Storage: Now, the base storage of 64gb is a little paltry in today's world of 128gb base models, but you do have the ability to slip in a MicroSD card and expand upon it. And you'll definitely want to consider that as 64 can fill up pretty quickly. CONS: -Screen: The screen is a slight letdown. It is not very bright (500 nits max), and it is an LCD panel as well. I can give the LCD panel a pass on such a budget model, but that low of a brightness is not fun when you're outdoors. The refresh rate maxes out at 90hz, which is okay. The bezels are pretty chunky, especially the bottom/chin of the device. Another saving grace is the glass screen is Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which is nice to have a name-brand glass piece on the front. There is also no fingerprint reader under the screen on this model (though some people may prefer that). Instead, it will be on your power button on the right. -Camera: The camera(s) are a slight letdown to me. While most Moto devices have 2 cameras, our G Play '24 here only has one. While the rear may look like it has two camera punchouts, Motorola did a sneaky and slipped the flash into the bottom punchout. There is also no OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) which means you need to stay pretty calm and level when taking pictures or videos. On the up side, the main (only?) rear camera is 50MP, which bins down to about 12.5MP. Still, the quality isn't exceptional. But, this is a budget phone. The front facing camera is only 8MP, and for some reason it does *not* support face unlock, so you're stuck with either typing in your PIN or using the fingerprint reader on the power button. -OS/Updates: One of the bigger cons on almost any Motorola device is the OS Support and Security Updates. You'll get one. One. Major. OS. Update. This device started on Android 13, and has already had its Android 14 update dropped. You shouldn't be seeing any other major update now, just security updates for another 2 years. This is easily surpassed by...anyone really. Also, the MUX is slightly inferior to the new Hello UI that Motorola has installed on newer Moto devices IMO. Still, it boasts nice customization options, and things look nice. -Network Compatibility: This particular device does *not* have a 5G radio installed. The Moto G Play '24 is limited to 4G LTE networks. Granted 4G LTE is a mature network with good coverage, you won't be seeing any of the 5G bands on here. But, I don't see this as a deal-breaker when it comes to the phone. *BIGGEST ISSUE* -Build Quality/QC- My biggest gripe of all here is the build quality. As seen in the photos, the rear panel does not meet the mid frame properly on the left side of the phone. There is a slight bump where the mid frame doesn't properly mate to the back panel. As far as I can tell, there's no easy fix as the back is plastic and is glued in place. While I *could* return my phone, there is no replacement option. Instead, I would have to have a full refund issued and re-buy the device. This is slightly aggravating to me. So, I'll suck it up and throw a case on it so I don't see the poor build quality. I know this is a budget device, but this is just sloppy. *BOTTOM LINE/TL;DR* So overall, I can't complain *too* much about the Motorola G Play 2024. It checks a fair amount of boxes for such a budget phone. The only *real* concern/issue I have with it is the build quality that occurred on my particular unit. When it comes to a recommendation, that's a hard one. There are quite a few compromises made to make this model so inexpensive. And for a few more dollars you can get something more feature-rich. I'd say pick this up if you are on a strict budget, or you need a secondary phone to use when you go somewhere you'd worry about damaging your daily driver phone (concert, theme park, etc).

The Motorola Moto G Play (2024) is a very budget-friendly smartphone that focuses on the basics rather than high-end performance. It comes with a large 6.5-inch HD+ display, a 50MP main camera, and a strong 5,000mAh battery that easily lasts a full day or more with regular use. It also includes a headphone jack and expandable storage, which are nice extras at this price point. In everyday use, the phone handles texting, browsing, streaming, and social media fairly smoothly thanks to its Snapdragon 680 processor and 4GB of RAM. However, it’s not built for heavy gaming or demanding apps, and performance can feel limited at times. She can't ask for a better phone. It does everything others do costing10 times more. Great camera! 40 megapixels if it get lost or damaged... Well, it cost less that some expensive cases. Gorilla glass? Yes! External SD card? Finger print sensor? Yes! It has it all. A super fast processor. I can't even pronounce it but it sounds powerful enough and it does what it's supposed to do.

The unbelievable amount of configuring and disabling to get this intrusive garbage from constantly nagging you is a nightmare. I can't recommend this phone simply because so much of this device is geared toward monetizing you, this is definitely how they make their money back. I was really irritated that the Screensaver app called "Glance" doesn't even have a [X] to close the nag window that kept popping up, I had to use the navigation buttons on the phone to bypass it and then eventually had to find a way to force stop this app. Its just one of the many horribly intrusive programs that's preloaded and impossible to avoid. Just look up how to remove "Glance" Lock Screen. It's unbelievable that not even your lock screen is safe from advertising. GROSSLY PATHETIC. And all the Google settings you have to disable to keep your apps from sending info to google to send you "SUGGESTIONS" What a load of crap. I've used cell phones, just like so many people on the planet without google telling me how to use it. I know what a browser is, I know how to use one to find stuff I want, that's where it ends. NO I DON'T NEED OR WANT YOU GOOGLE. F the F OFF. I try not to even use the G-Play Store, I use F-Droid for Open Source Alternatives. And Android makes sure it's difficult to install unapproved apps, but you can still do it with most free software on F-Droid. Honestly if you want to be free of these intrusions you really have to work hard at it. Another thing I found out about this phone is that there is a tiny IR LED that blinks constantly in the upper right hand of the screen, I have still yet to find out for sure why it's blinking constantly, but from what I have read it might have to do with something related to detecting if the phone is near your face or if the phone is in your pocket, but it blinks ALL THE TIME, look at your Moto G Play 2024 phone with another camera and you will see it blinking too. It's disturbing knowing this device is constantly blinking a light. It's strange because it's not a patterned blink it's like a data signal, so would be interesting to find out if this is actually trying to communicate with other IR devices. No clue but interesting. Aside from my paranoia regarding the light, the phone functions for the most part as intended, as a phone and browser and I use it for multiple apps that seam to operate well on this platform. I just don't see myself owning another Android based phone after this experience, it's just more and more obvious that you have less and less control over what your phone is doing. In my ideal world there would be an open source phone where there is nothing hidden from the user. That's not the case here, so many agreements to click through, who knows what this thing is actually doing half the time. I can be certain it's trying to find ways to analyze my usage so it can predict ways of emptying my wallet. Just a shameful digital world we've entered, it would be nice to see an alternative to all this garbage. I'm already looking into rooting and installing a degoogled mobile OS, but I've done stuff like that before and it's just as much a headache but one with less worry regarding apps spying on you. I needed a new phone and the price was right but that is about as far as the compliments can be extended from me. Phones these days are less about the user and more about being used.
