My portions are smaller and that is the idea about getting an 8 inch plate. May be heavy for a child or an elderly person IMO. Plates do not stack evenly if that is your thing. These plates are a great value. They are high quality stoneware with some weight to them as well. They have a nice lipped rim that keeps whatever is on the plate from dripping off of it, great for serving sandwiches, salads or desserts and they stack very neatly when storing them. These plates are just the right side for a bagel or toast. Since the plate is flat, nothing slides off the bagel or toast and since there is a lip on the plate nothing slides off the plate either. The plates are thick and seem very durable. The colors are great and not too bright.

Love these plates. They feel like they are high end. Almost something handmade, they have a good weight to them. Great size for daily meal use. Perfect for lunch or smaller dinner. I have been using for several months and my silverware has not marked these in any way.
