Not all greenhouses are built the same and the Monticello line of greenhouses by Riverstone Industries proves this to be true. The Monticello is proudly MADE IN THE USA. Applying good old American ingenuity to make the best product for our customers and help to elevate the industry standards of all greenhouses. Constructed from the highest quality extruded aluminum (US grade - not the thinner & more brittle foreign aluminum) and electrostatically painted Black (guaranteed to contain 0.0% lead), our greenhouse uses on average more than 40 lbs. more aluminum than the average imported greenhouse. Why is this important? The weaker the framework the less snow the greenhouse can hold in the winter time before collapsing on itself also the easier it will be get damages in wind. While most hobby greenhouses on the market us less expensive thinner walls and roofing materials (the crystal clear walls are as thin as .2mm), the Monticello uses professional grade 8mm twin wall polycarbonate. This is the same thickness as used in the commercial greenhouses. The twin wall polycarbonate acts as a double pain window keeping cooler air in during warm months and insulating the greenhouse from cold air in the wintertime. This not only makes the Monticello more efficient to grow in for a longer period of time than other greenhouses but it also adds to the efficiency of growing, cutting down electric bills for those who choose to grow year round. With the average greenhouse on the market today taking a solid weekend to assemble it is easy to see why so many greenhouse owners say that the top issue in the first 2 months of ownership is the actual set-up. We listened to the owners and took the construction process into consideration when designing the Monticello.

We returned this greenhouse & it still gets a 5 star from me. Let's start. I bought this in February 2016 bc it was the best after some in depth research I did. Arrived great. No rush on assembling bc hey we have until winter, right? Plus I am a mid 20s female who has never assembled something large. June/July time comes & I finally get my parents over to help. The directions for the optional wooden support base took us forever to figure out. Directions not clear to us (the peices are different sizes so like giant puzzle). Plus mid summer heat now. That's all that was completed that day & my parents were like tee hee, we will pay someone to finish? I declined the offer. So just me & my vampire husband who works 12 hr shifts & hates the sun & heat. I attempt by myself & the directions after the base were thankfully much more straight forward! I was like hey I can do this part by part over time. No go. The small wall section fell down. You should probably do a whole wall at a time. Husband helps. Very hot & miserable outside (humid Arkansas @ hottest time of year). But he uses fun tools he has that secure the wall sections better. Stay up longer but fell again bc we again did one piece at a time & left it. I'm all gung-ho about building this greenhouse by this point. Husband is like tee hee let's pay someone to build it? He can't find anyone around here. He calls monticello to see if a refund is possible (this is August 2016 now!) & they say yeah they can if all the stuff is sent back. Yall. I had got rid of 2 of the huge boxes it came in already. We sent some back w/ flimsy taped up borderline embarasing boxes. They fully refunded it within a week of receiving it. I am so sorry for the people who had to go through all the receiving & checking. There are a lot of little pieces. This greenhouse is way more beautiful than the one I'm looking at that comes delivered fully assembled but my team poo pooed out on me. Wish it could've been a different outcome.     • Be prepared to bust your butt

Is this a quality product? Yes. Was it painful to assemble? Hell flippin’ YES!!! It took 3 of us 18 hours to assemble. And, it was painful. So, if you are a hard worker and have help…go for it. Otherwise, pass.

I assembled mine a year and a half ago. Sad I could only rate this purchase 5 stars. Starting with price, not the cheapest but how long do you plan to have it? Polycarbonate panels vs Lexan, no comparison, they retain their opaque transparency. This thing is beyond stout. The first winter we got 14” of the wettest snow I’ve seen, and I’ve lived here for 20 years. My neighbor lost 3 sheds. The greenhouse didn’t complain. I have two 2x4s to prop it up next time. The assembly was straight forward with very clear instructions. I’d say use 2 people however I actually did it solo. All the pieces were there. Functionality is great. If it’s sunny out you will find yourself opening vents and doors about the time the temp hits 60 outside. The good news is that the vents and doors provide very good airflow and by the time it is 90 outside it will also be 90 inside. I run a big fan at the door opening and it really pulls a lot of air thru. Finally the customer service. One of my pistons that opens a roof vent stopped opening all the way. I called CS and the person that answered the phone was able to ship out a new one, so that was painless and the cherry on top of the sundae. I plan to enjoy mine for many years...... ... show more

Regret buying this very much. -Parts were missing. -Instructions were poor and outdated. -Parts did not fit together as they were supposed to. Customer service eventually addmitted they had recently changed the manufacturer of the aluminum parts. -Had to fabricate parts myself to finally get it together. ... show more

    • Not a DIY for most!

First, this was purchased through Brookstone. I will never buy through them again. After 3 phone calls reporting a complete missing box they never corrected the problem. I dealt only with the manufacturer Riverstone After that. Dave at Riverstone worked closely with us to replace key components in timely fashion. Unfortunately, I spent several additional hundreds of dollars paying a contractor for repeated lost time due to missing parts and made 3 runs to Lowe's due to incorrect sizes bolts and jam nuts. The manual and parts lists does not always agree which also complicates construction. Having a professional who can understand the jargon or know how to substitute parts invaluable. Has taken 3 weeks and 7 days of a few hrs each to complete. Now that it is up I can say construction is sturdy. Design is attractive. Polycarbonate insulation seems adequate but lowest temps have only been in high 4os. Kept green house at around 54 without additional heat. Auto vents do work. Rain gutters will NOT handle high volumes of rain so pay attention to sealing trim fits with silicone. We used flex seal clear at bottom near ground to seal small spaces. It is not air tight to allow for expansion and contraction. Hope this green house performs well in our Pennsylvania climate. Wound up costing nearly 4000$ for this no frills 8x16. ... show more
