Description

Molly's Game is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe.Bonus Content: Includes a digital copy of Molly's Game (Digital copy redemption code subject to expiration. • The Risky World of High Stakes Poker♠️♥️♣️♦️
This movie deserves nothing less than 5 stars. It's brilliant! Jessica Chastain is perfect in the role of Molly Bloom, a highly driven and intelligent woman who ran high stakes poker games. She was an Olympic skier until an injury diverted her path into the risky world of poker. Oddly enough, I can relate with this story, which made it even more enthralling for me to watch. Molly eventually began taking a rake from the games, which led them to become illegal. She got tangled up with the Russian mafia, the FBI, and rich, powerful men. Her story is an incredible one, the dialogue is extremely smart, and the acting is excellent. This is Aaron Sorkin's directorial debut and if you like The Newsroom you will like this. Also, if you like this, you will like Miss Sloane, a film where Chastain's character parallels Molly's character in many ways. Molly's Game is one of the best movies I've ever watched and by far one of the best poker movies ever made. It's memorable, fascinating and well worth watching! ... show more

  • Excellent and apparently not for everyone
This is a thinking person's movie. There is some very important psychoanalysis as a thread running through, there is poker and how it gets played both at the table and away from it, a good bit about the law and the story of how a life gets lived. Kevin Costner and Idris Elba are utterly outstanding. Chastain is excellent as is Mr. Cena. It is slow at the beginning, it gets slow again in the middle as new characters enter the scenes, and then it pays off huge at the end. As usual, on amazon, the one star reviews are mostly about issues other than the movie - but I don't believe I've ever seen a movie rated this high. It deserves it. ... show more

  • A very good film.
Excellent. Good acting, well written script. Never lagged. Liked All of the actors, especially the dispicable ones, good job. Couldn’t stand any of them! Especially about the young real-life actor who supposedly said he liked destroying people’s lives...just for the heck of it? After he got a great, lucky break in Hollywood. I didn’t read the book but, if that’s true, how sad. Haven’t seen that actor in anything for years... I also saw Jessica Chastain in her first movie, Jolene. Very good start, she is a fine actor. Someone wrote a snarky review, revealing a spoiler...why do people do such silly things? Get a life! I bought Molly’s Game, well worth it. So was watching Jolene. ... show more

  • Much better than expected - watching again!
I wasn't familiar with the real life story, but I do like Jessica Chastin as an actress and was pleasantly surprised to see Costner as her Father. I'm from Colorado as well, and grew up near her and also went to CU, so it immediately made a connection. The rest of the story is enthralling, and the ending, like some have mentioned was also touching and refreshing, especially since it's based on the real story. I'm not giving any spoilers, like SOME people, (if you don't know the true story) just see for yourself - it's really good. ... show more

  • Really Amazing and Elegantly Simplistic.
SPOILERS:::: I loved it. The acting and story are spot-on. The story is very well written. Boy, you can get lost in a story like this. I think I am still angry and that fat dude for coming into her apartment and the two mob dudes and the bellman for their fucked-up-ness. Even though the mob guys got their just do. but still. why do men treat women like that? and then so sweetly her dad realized that he was part of the problem and made amends. damn glad someone, the and the lawyer had integrity. gesh. anyway. very good. very good. very good. ... show more

  • MOLLY BLOOM ❤️
All I can say is WOW ! This movie and the woman it's about has made me wish I wasn't 73 and had my life to live over so I can be just like Molly Bloom, not what she did but her intelligence, strength, morals, courage that made her such a better person then those who tried so hard to pull her down to their level and that's our FBI. I will watch this again and with my 16 yr. Old granddaughter who hopefully will get some lessons on being a strong proud woman who will always stand up for what she believes is the right thing no matter what others try to make her believe. ... show more

  • Excellent use of witty voice-over narration, impactfully delivered w/heart beat rhythm finesse
The writing, production and acting is excellent, especially the voice over narration which is vital to be able to truly understand the story from Molly's perspective. I love that the "heroine" is not painted without showing her faults and that she owns up to them while at the same time, isn't self-deprecating about them. It's portrayed like, "I messed up, moving on, what's next." I love how pretty much all the women in this show are portrayed not only as beauties, but very intelligent. On an overall movie scale rating system this movie might be rated 4 stars, but it is definitely 5 stars' worthy if you rate it solely based on what it is, all its elements and its genre. It keeps a fast pace, captivated my interest from start to finish and had me completely engaged in several very poignant scenes. Very worth watching. ... show more
