This alarm works perfectly at detecting water. A few caveats: As people mentioned, the pairing and Wi-Fi setup steps are missing from provided setup instructions, however, within minutes I located a short YouTube video that quickly filled in the blanks, and once you do this, it takes a few minutes to connect. Second caveat is that the provided alarm is very quiet. Your smartphone has louder ring options. So, you really need to rely upon the iPhone notification alerts to have a clue that it is going off, unless you are sleeping right next to your sump pump or wherever. I rigged mine to hang into a basement drain with the sensor on cord. Works. My sump failed, and I would never have known since I don’t go into basement daily and check, and dehumidifier regularly drains to this pump. I got a notification on iPhone from the Flo app while away from home, and checked sump upon return to determine sump had failed, but water was still in drain, so no overflow. I caught it early enough to minimize cleanup. It’s just a little, relatively cheap device, but it works.

I never expected such a bad product from Moen. The connectivity is zero. I am a digital professional and a former builder and this product is so unreliable as to give you a dangerous false sense of comfort. They do buzz when wet. Everyone’s does. Detectors are constantly dropping off the network, and as of 9.19.26 the app is unable to locate any of my home networks after being registered. I have a dual band gateway from my cable company and a dedicated 2.4g router for smart devices. Nothing shows up in the app. And the support bot is a waste of your time. If I prove to be at fault, I will come back and make amends. But 30 years of experience says that is going to be the case. I want my money back.

As other reviews state, the single unit I ordered arrived with the battery ajar and insulating strip off to the side so the battery had been draining since it was installed by the manufacturer. After setup, the Flo app indicated about 60% battery life remained. Will be good if Moen sends a new battery...time will tell. App installed on iPhone 13mini running iOS 16+. Many questions to answer to register but par for course these days. First try to connect to our home WiFi seemed to work (I had no prompt I entered my password incorrectly) but after finding the system not connected, I figured out the problem on second try. The app seems well designed. I set the acceptable operating range of humidity, and temperature I wanted and checked the boxes for email, text, and push alerts. After testing the hardware, I have yet to figure out how to delete the activity log, but the log can be filtered, collapsed and hidden. The alarm events can be deleted (just not the log). The primary sensor responded quickly to water. The main unit responds with beeping alarm for about 10 seconds and then stops and would not respond again if it remains sitting in water. If it dries, and is wetted again, a new alarm event occurs without manually resetting anything. The alarm beeping sound measured roughly 62dB at a distance of 5ft (1.5m). A nearby gas, forced-air furnace totally masked the sound of the alarming detector. Given the alarm shuts off after apprx 10 sec., one would need to be nearby, in the room to have a chance of seeing the LED or hear the alarm. (I believe most smoke alarms register around 95+dB for comparison). Don't count on hearing this alarm over other household noise. Disappointingly, the primary alarm sensor toggles to the remote sensor when the remote sensor is plugged in. I was hoping to place the primary sensor on a floor drain covering and the remote sensor under the washing machine so if the drain from other sources backs up or the washing machine leaks, I would get an alert. You have a choice of one sensor or the other, but not both. The remote sensor responded quickly to water. To bluntly test for low temperature, I set the low end of the desired operating range to 40F (4.5C) and placed the unit outside where the winter temperature was 28F (-2C). The unit sensed the 40F (4.5C) lower limit in roughly 15 minutes and triggered the text and emails as expected. This 15 min delay was comparable to another remote sensor for a smart thermostat I also placed outside (indoor room temp. was approx 70F (21C). I did not examine how loud or if the alarm sound changes between the different sources of alarm (cold or moisture) but I did not hear the alarm inside when and if it was audible outside. I have no experience with other similar sensors on the market today so a comparison isn't possible. I hopt these details can provide someone else useful information from which to make their own comparisons. I think for the price, and having experienced two human caused basement floods and one nature based flood during a deluge of rain, I'm satisfied with this purchase so far. Suggestions would be to allow for a volume adjustment of some sort (like toggle 62dB or 110dB) so the user doesn't have to rely only on text and email alerts, don't shut off one sensor when the other is active (better value for the $), add feature such as multiple emails to the app so that some users could receive alerts but not have access to the settings (i.e. for renters vs administrator, etc.) Hopefully my mostly positive impressions last as time goes on....speaking of which....how long does the battery last when it has 60% of life remaining....time will tell when the unit sends the 20% remaining battery warning I also triggered to 'on'.

The first one I purchased wouldn’t turn on at all. It is possible that the battery was dead as the little tab was not between the battery and the connectors inside the unit. I wasn’t going to go buy a battery to find out. So, I returned it and requested a replacement. The replacement came today. Again, the tab keeping the battery away from the connections was not in. It did turn on, and I was able to connect it to my app. Unfortunately, once I plugged in the sensors, all kinds of alarms went off, and it turned off the water in my house because it was synced with my flo turn off device. Even though the sensor was completely dry and on the counter, it said there was a critical leak. So, I deleted the device from my app and started it over. Went through the whole process and ended up with the same critical alarm. I was smart enough the second time around not to sync it to my water shut off so all I got was the alarm. BTW, the battery shows only 59%, so it’s been either on or is used. Anyway, I like my Flo Mo water shut off device but basically think this micro leak detector is worthless.

I ordered three of the Moen Smart Leak Detectors and only 1 worked right out of the package. The only problem with it was during set up, which was easy. At the end of the set up it wanted me to link to Alexa which I don't have. Even though there was a skip option it wasn't accepted and set up a loop that I couldn't get out of. Finally I exited the app several times to discover all was fine. Later I decided to set up the other two and put them into position. I discovered both of these had their batteries loose inside the water detector. One the posts that the battery fits between to make the electric connection were so far apart that the battery was loose inside? If these are hand inserted, how does this not get noticed? If it's a robot inserting these, where is quality control? Shaking the box would alert to a problem since there is no sound when the battery is held in firmly as it should be. I tried to press the posts closer together to hold the battery correctly as it should be but the posts were too stiff to move and I was afraid of ruining it if I tried too hard to do that. On the third one, the battery posts seem to be in the correct position to hold the battery in correctly so that it will work but the battery was not held within these posts. It was sideways between the posts barely making contact. When inserted correctly between the posts it didn't activate. Since I had one that worked as it should, I knew what it should look like when the battery worked. I can only assume the battery has run down due to being partially inserted. Tomorrow when the stores open, I will go buy a new battery and see if that unit works. If not I will be returning two units for replacement due to being defective. I will update this review once I do that. I gave the general review of 3 stars because the one that did work was very easy to set up and took very little time or effort.

Humidity and temperature readings are very inaccurate. Tested against my other gauges temperature is off by 20 degrees and humidity by 10-15. I’ve had to turn off notifications for these. I’ve repeatedly tested the actual leek detector and it works fine. So just beware.

I have water sensors at 3 properties, a mix of brands. Once you get the Moen ones set up and working, they are generally good, but the setup process is horrific, and if I need to add another one somewhere, I literally dread doing it. They rarely pair correctly, need to be reset multiple times during the process, and the new Moen app (which they are pushing you to transfer to from Flo) is somehow even worse than the original Flo app. They get 2 stars because they have humidity and temperature integrated, but it is just not worth the trouble anymore. I have started using the Tapo ones with hub instead because the setup could not be any easier, and the Tapo sensors have a water sensor on the top (the Moen do not). The Tapo ones don't have temperature / humidity, but you can also get those sensors from Tapo too, and the Tapo water + temp sensor combo is still cheaper than one Moen device. And saves tons of headaches.
