Very solid materials and large enough to fit most railings. Unfortunately, if the top rail overhangs the balusters, they block access to the slot for the hanging arm. I had to improvise by adding some blocking wood.

I was about to make my own hanger for a bird feeder on our new metal post deck when I ran across this attachment type of hanger though it is hard to keep it from slipping down. I have used some shims so it gets tighter if it starts to slide down and that seems to work. They make these hooks that are great with different attachment methods. It would be great if they just sold the attachment portion separately and I wouldn’t have to buy the whole hanger. But I am pleased with these.

We built a new deck a year ago and didn't want to screw anything directly into the posts for our bird feeders. The new railing is too thick for most clamp on hangers, and the ones that do work, have a really limited capacity. To say that I've been looking for a long time for something to hang our high capacity Droll Yankee feeder is an understatement. This item looked promising. Things I think you should know: If you are thinking about using this on a 4x4 deck post with a sleeve, the bolts that come with it won't work. They're simply too short. The good news? You can get different bolts at your local hardware store (p.s. they're metric so it helps if you can go to a shop that you can size them up in person rather than guessing based on something in a plastic clamshell. Our local Ace was fantastic!). The longer bolts worked like a charm. Because of the curve of the pole, our decorative topper on the post has to pop up ever so slightly. It doesn't bother me in the least but if you are particular about that stuff, it may bother you. I have yet to be able to get this sucker to lock into place. It sways just a hair in the wind. Doesn't bother me. It might bother you. It isn't a large sway, but it is there. Minor complaint - when the posts are screwed together, the hook isn't straight up and down. It is an engineering thing, I get it, it is tough to make perfect, but that one did bug me a little. The powder coating on this is not totally awesome. There are places where it is missing and I can already see a little rust forming. I don't care all that much, but it will probably impact it's longevity. The piece of metal that holds the slot for the pole on the assembly we got was bent. It isn't a HUGE deal, but it does make it more challenging to get a good fit when the nuts are tightened up. Another engineering thing that could have been better. We did get it to work just fine in the end, but it was just something worth noting. All in all, I would recommend this product to someone in our same situation.

Updated review since I moved and purchased it again for my second balcony. I’m showing pics this time because it’s the best out there so you can see exactly how I attached it from the front and the back and a birdfeeder is what I chose to hang on the other end. Just put it up now and I’m sure the birds are grateful because ice is everywhere. The product is one of the best out there and that's why they keep selling so many. The hook is long and sturdy and the arm swings from left to right so I can change the bird seed on the hanger. I may get a third for plants. This is my second purchase from here and I had an issue with one of the wing-nuts but they took a lot of time to make sure I was happy and satisfied with my purchase. I really appreciate the fact that despite the time zone difference they always kept me in the loop and assisted me with making sure I had one small piece that I needed. My neighbor purchased one and we use it to feed numerous birds here in New Jersey, USA. Thank you!

Got this to hang a bird feeder or a plant, but right now it's doing great holding a hanging Halloween decoration on my deck. It works as you would expect, with the clamp holding to the deck. I expect it'll last some years.

The pieces are well-finished, sturdy, and the concept is good, but they need to do a bit more on the assembly design. The pole is a 3-piece unit. One end piece has an angle that sits in a tube on the bracket, allowing it to swing side-to-side. Middle piece is straight. Other end piece has the crook that will hold your basket or feeder. when you screw all 3 pieces together, the bent end and the crook do not align properly. They include washers that are supposed to correct this issue, but they don't. It took me about a 20 times assembling and re-assembling - using various sized washers from our household supplies - before I could get it to work. Even so, it is not truly aligned, but is close enough to function well and hold the hummingbird feeder.

The strength far exceeded what anticipated. I'm using it to try keeping a trash panda from raiding my suet feeder every night. s(he) is a clever strong beast and I may need to resort to an electric fence charger or something equally drastic if this doesn't work. My mounting didn't use the provided bracket and I only used the rod in its short configuration as a first step but the bracket does seem to be adequately strong for its intended purpose.

This thing is almost unusable. I ordered several of them. We put them together, but if they aren't made just right, the hook doesn't align with the base. Nothing will hang straight. We tightened one of them so tight trying to get it straight that we couldn't get it to unscrew to take apart and put back in the box. The UPS store wouldn't take any of them unless they were in their boxes, so I'm stuck with that one. It swings in the breeze witht the hummingbird feeder I have hanging on it, so I put windchimes on it. They're heavy, so it swings toward the deck instead of outward. Save your money and do NOT waste it or your time ordering this hook.
