  • Good soil
Size: 1.3 cu. ft. Style: Raised Bed Mix
I’ve been using **Miracle-Gro Performance Organics Raised Bed Mix** for my garden, and while there are definitely some benefits, there are also a few challenges I’ve encountered along the way that I didn’t expect. ### **Water Retention and Quick Drainage** One of the first things I noticed is how quickly the mix drains water. At first, I thought it was great because it meant the soil wasn’t going to get waterlogged, but I quickly realized that it dries out much faster than I’d like. I’ve had to water my raised beds more often than usual, especially in warmer weather. It feels like I’m constantly checking to make sure the soil stays moist, which isn’t ideal when I was hoping for something a bit lower-maintenance. ### **Soil Settling** Another issue I encountered was how much the soil settled after the first couple of waterings. I filled my raised bed to the top, but after a few days, the soil level dropped significantly. It compacted more than I expected, and I ended up having to add more soil just to fill the bed back up to the proper level. This was frustrating because I didn’t plan on needing extra bags of soil, and the settling made it feel like I hadn’t filled the bed correctly in the first place. ### **High Price for Small Bags** Speaking of needing extra bags, the cost of the soil is higher than I anticipated for the amount you get. The 1.3 cubic foot bag doesn’t go as far as you might think, especially if you’re filling multiple beds or have larger gardening projects. I found myself going back to the store for more bags sooner than I expected, which definitely added up. For the price, I hoped it would cover more space or provide more lasting nutrients. ### **Nutrient Depletion** In the beginning, the plants I planted in this soil seemed to thrive. The raised bed mix gave them a nice boost, and I was impressed with the growth. But after a few weeks, I noticed the plants weren’t growing as fast, and some of the leaves started yellowing. I realized the soil wasn’t holding onto nutrients as long as I thought it would. I had to start adding organic fertilizers pretty early in the season, which wasn’t something I was planning for. The mix works well initially, but I found that it needs **more frequent feeding** than I anticipated. ### **Inconsistent Quality Between Bags** One other challenge I ran into was inconsistency between bags. Some bags had a nice, fine texture that was easy to work with, while others had large chunks of wood and twigs in them. It made it harder to create an even surface for planting seeds or delicate seedlings. I ended up having to sift through some of the soil to break down or remove some of the larger pieces, which was an extra step I wasn’t expecting to deal with. ### **Not the Best for Every Plant Type** While my veggies and herbs did well with the mix after adding extra nutrients, I noticed that some of my more finicky plants didn’t respond as well. Certain flowers, like those that prefer specific soil conditions or less nutrient-dense soil, didn’t seem to thrive as much as I hoped. I think this mix is good for general use, but it might not be ideal for every type of plant, especially those that need more specific growing conditions. ### **Final Thoughts** Overall, while **Miracle-Gro Performance Organics Raised Bed Mix** worked well for giving my plants a good start, it wasn’t as low-maintenance as I hoped. I found myself watering more frequently, dealing with soil settling, and supplementing with fertilizers sooner than I expected. It’s definitely a good organic option, but just be prepared to stay on top of watering and feeding if you want to get the best results. Also, keep in mind that you may need more bags than you think, especially if your garden is on the larger side. ... show more

  • Turns out I don't have as much of a black thumb as I thought
Size: 1 cu. ft. Style: Container Mix
If you kill everything, maybe try this. I have killed SO MANY plants. I have always just used the yellow miracle grow potting mix type bags of dirt from Lowe's and grocery stores cause it was easy to find, but my plants always die after a few months no matter how much I tried and researched. I got this to see if maybe getting something a bit nicer could fix my skill issue with plants and IT DID. I have been able to keep nearly every plant alive since switching to this soil. Catnip, succulents, pothos, anthurium, peas, garlic, and even the random seed I that Idk what it is cause I accidentally mixed up a few bags. They've been alive since I bought this soil in mid summer which is a total record for me. My room looks like a forest and I couldn't be happier! ... show more

  • Great product if you know what you are doing
Size: 6 qt. Style: Container Mix
This is a fairly large bag of "mix" comprised of many nutrients for container plants. What I mean by, "if you know what you are doing" is, the packaging says it's an all purpose "mix" suitable for container plants. The first thing I didn't know was that potting soil and potting mix are two different things. A mix is a combination of perlite, lava and more so it's light and airy for a plant. I Googled all over the place to ask if the mix alone was suitable for house plants to include my aloe plant and a succulent vine. Not even the manufacturer had info I could research for an answer to my question. I just wanted a "yes, it's great for that," or a "No, your plant will freak out and die if you use this mix." I tend to think "all purpose" mix/soil would automatically include my succulents. It looks great for plants that bloom, so that's good. The packaging information is not the sellers fault so I felt them deserving of 5-stars. ... show more

  • Note the size you get
Size: 6 qt (2 pack) Style: Container Mix
These bags are very super small if you order this product. Quite surprised when I opened the box to find both of them in the same small box. This was a Christmas gift and was expensive for the size, and will not fill a planter box with two of these.
