I used to water my inside lettuce pots twice a week and it was not enough to keep them alive, especially when things would get busy and I would space it, so I gave up for awhile. I still wanted to grow things though so I planted again using this for my soil along with some additional perlite mixed in to prevent it getting too compacted etc. The soil stays moist. When I have watered I've done so very lightly and I have set up a fan to lightly blow across the plants to keep the soil from getting moldy which I noticed it trying to do after about two weeks. The mold is the kind that likes to grow on the soil in covered seedling trays so I am regularly spritzing it with chamomile tea which helps with that kind of mold. This is really an all purpose soil. Although it says Potting Mix, I use it for ground level plants, pots, planters and a raised garden as well. Everything I plant in Miracle Grow does very well from tomatoes, basil, ground orchids, sunflowers and wildflowers. This is the best for all of them!!! The bag I received has very nice potting soil in it it is one of the better qualities I have seen however American girl makes it another one that is I think is even better but this one will do just fine for what I needed to do and I don't know about other people complaining about bugs and mold in the soil but there is absolutely none in mind and for the price which is decent and I say decent because with the tax and the shipping it comes to a little bit more than what I would have paid locally but that's fine it was delivered I did not have to carry it all the way from the local store ... show more

This is a great option for people starting out gardening or planting. The soil is a bit woodchippy for my taste, but my plants still seem to do well. I like to put more of the wood chips into my compost bin for my worms to break down.
