  • For the love of Cacti
Size: 1-Pack
A couple of years ago my mom asked if I’d be interested in a cactus or three (she had Christmas Cacti, Prickly Pear, and a kind she didn’t know; all of which she’d inherited). Having just found my green thumb and knowing that cacti were drought resistant I jumped at the chance. However, when I went to pick them up I ended up with ALL of them. A few she’d had since 1989, all of which she’d NEVER transplanted! Up until this year I had done my best to keep them alive, but some of the Christmas Cacti were dying off. The others, were thriving and even after getting rid of over a dozen Prickly Pear I was drowning in cacti (still am). Well I decided this year I was gonna do it right and buy the correct soil and save the Christmas Cacti! I purchased this and was a little afraid of root shock, so I took to my Prickly Pear and other cacti that are multiplying without my consent. Well, several injuries later, I transplanted a few pots and now.... I have even more multiplication going on! I also transplanted my aloe vera plant, because it had consumed all of its previous soil and was just a root ball with a little dirt. In the month since I have transplanted it, it’s doubled in size and was already pretty big! I did my research and discovered that while Prickly Pear and the other cacti (a finger-like cacti) are happy with little water, as they are desert cacti. Christmas Cacti are happy with MORE water, so to go with this I purchased some coco coir to hold more water for them. Then came the dreaded task of “Operation Save The Christmas Cacti”, as I want to give a couple away as Christmas gifts this year. So I sat down with everything I needed. I used a small amount of coco coir, as it is just to help with watering, but once rehydrated (I bought the compressed kind) I mixed it with this soil. And started dissecting the planters and getting rid of the old soil and finding my roots. The old soil was no longer holding water and I had been poking holes in it to get water to the roots. It seems as if I may have lost three or four four plants, but if I found a root system I thought might be able to be saved I replanted it. I replanted the first planter (of four) and was happy with the new arrangement, then set it aside. I replanted the second, was equally happy, went to set it next to planter one. And... what? Planter one’s plants were already noticeably happier, their leaves were brighter and were moving! I could see them perking up. Ok, maybe it’s just me. Nope, my dog is now standing between me and said planter and she looks concerned. I quickly tell her it’s ok, but by this time my other dog is now watching. They have now decided to stand guard. I finish up the third planter, and once again planter two is noticeably more happy. Now when doing planter four, this is the planter that has my plants that need that extra TLC, the oldest plants that were the most damaged. I decided to take a plant from each of the first three planters and place it in the fourth and add a extra TLC plant in it’s place in the original three planters as I ran out of the coco coir mixed soil, the fourth planter would also have a TLC plant in it. I had read that doing this can help plants ‘recover and heal’. With all four planters assembled, it was now after 9pm (which was the goal) so I watered everyone and went inside. I got up the following morning and my leaves were no longer ‘dingy’ and ‘dusty’ looking. They are bright and colorful. They are no longer droopy, but are perking up and within a couple days are budding. This is ALL four planters, not just the ones with coco coir. I have seen a little green coming from two of the four TLC plants so far. I have ordered a second bag and am going to transplant ALL of the other cacti, and most likely sell and/or give away a good portion of them as I too often get attacked by them if I look at them too long. I’m surprised my dog’s have not been attacked by them. I also have cats and I don’t need them jumping on cacti, which is why my from porch has looked like a cacti outlet for the last 4 months at least. Do I recommend? Absolutely! How ‘Cacti’ not buy this again! ... show more

  • Disappointing but viable
Size: Bundle
I think Miracle Grow overall is a pretty good company and they have some good potting soils. I just don't like how much water this mix actually retains. For cactus and succulents, you really want something that lets go of water fairly quickly. Just enough time for the cactus to take a drink and then be dry again. I am one of those tainted green thumb people who tends to overwater everything. I have to be super careful with this potting mix because it stays wet far too long. So it's not a good mix for people like me. I think it is an excellent mix for people who tend to kill off their plants from under watering. You won't need to water but once every 2-3 weeks with this mix. It's a good mix though and my plants seem to love it. I just have to be extra careful with my watering tendencies. ... show more

  • Good quality potting soil
Size: 2-Pack
Good potting soil that I used for repotting my monstera deliciosa and my whale fin snake plants. I added perlite to this mixture for more drainage and aeration but this was a good base for the mixture since it had some wood chips in it for more aeration to avoid root rot.

  • Miracle Gro products
Size: 2-Pack
I always trust Miracle Gro products. Hopefully our repotted cactus will thrive. Nice to have this type of product delivered as opposed to running around town trying to locate cactus soil in central New York.

  • Great Value
Size: 2-Pack
Great value for your money. Cheaper than Lowes! Soil is nice, drains well and didn't have to add anything else (i.e perlite) to it. This was my second order and will order again when I run out. Highly recommend this product.

  • High quality, great amount for the cost
Size: 2-Pack
I ordered this for my elephant ear plant and it has increased its growth 2x. It’s a cheap price for the amount that you get and the quality.
