Description

Keep interior wood projects looking beautiful with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. This crystal clear protective finish protects and adds beauty to woodwork, furniture, and more. The clear top coat protects against scratches, scuffs and blemishes to protect the wood surface beneath. This clear sealer dries crystal clear and stays crystal clear, making it ideal for use over all Minwax Oil-Based and Water-Based Stains and colors, as well as all wood species including light woods like maple, ash and birch. The ultra-fast-drying protective coating allows for quick recoats after 2 hours. It’s also easy to clean-up the clear wood finish with just soap and water. This protective wood top coat not only protects the natural beauty of the wood, but offers a shiny, sleek sheen for a bright, modern look. It’s also non-yellowing, non-ambering and low odor. Note: Minwax Polycrylic Protective Wood Finish may appear milky upon opening, but applies and dries to a crystal clear protective finish that lasts. Application: 1. Surface must be dry and free of wax, grease, polish, any foreign matter or old finishes in poor condition.2. Sand to a smooth, uniform surface. DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL. Remove dust with a damp cloth. Let dry completely.3. If desired, apply stain such as Minwax Water Based Wood Stain or Minwax Wood Finish stain to bare wood surfaces following label directions. Wait at least 24 hours before applying Polycrylic Finish over Minwax Wood Finish Stain. Can also be applied to bare wood.4. Stir well before and regularly during use. DO NOT SHAKE.5. Apply a thin coat of Polycrylic Finish with a high-quality synthetic bristle brush. Apply in one direction with the grain. Do not over-brush.6. Let dry at least 2 hours then sand with very fine sandpaper (220 grit) to ensure an even finish and proper adhesion of additional coats. Do not use steel wool. Remove all dust.7. Apply a second coat. For additional coats, repeat Step 6 before applying. Three coats are recommended.8. After final coat, allow 3 hours before light handling and 24 hours before normal use. I have used the Minwax product line for many years. I used the high gloss oil base on my floors and produced excellent results. All of the contractors who came to my home would ask me who did my floors. I didn’t want to tell them I had. If anything was wrong I wanted them to feel they could tell me without offending me. To my relief, they said the floors were stunning! Even the realtor remarked about how beautiful they were! Finishing was a long tedious process: lightly sanding, scrupulously cleaning all traces of debris with tack cloths and rags and carefully applying the poly with a lambswool applicator. Today I have mostly laminate floors that are a dull satin finish. The previous owners were not fastidious people, so there were a few areas where there was evidence of delamination. In order to prevent the problem from getting worse, I decided to coat the floors with Minwax water based poly. I used the matte finish. I coat 3X, and leave 24 hours between each coat to dry. In this particular application, the matte finish looks best since it blends beautifully with the existing finish. I would caution anyone who uses this on their floors: place felt pads on your chairs and no spiked heels. If there is any damage, touch-up is a breeze. ... show more

Easy to apply with brush or sponge (I used sponge). Dries very fast. Apply it properly, and assume you wont retouch it as you don't want to go back over it too much as it dries. Milky colored liquid that dries to completely clear. Its also a very runny, watery finish that could be tricky to apply on vertical surfaces so keep that in mind. Work it evenly and follow the instructions and you wont have any issues. No issues with odor of any kind. Bought it to use inside of clear glass ornaments with glitter, and it worked like a charm! Tried this other glue that supposedly dried clear, but didn’t. This was easy to use and cleaned up easily. Highly recommend for glitter projects that need clear drying adhesive type products!!

Very quick drying 👍, Everyone recommends foam brush? I understand that comments need to work with the propensity of failure by those lacking deductive reasoning! To use a cheap brush would give undesirable results, but a high quality soft tip, 3” brush is the best for application. The trick is to put enough on quickly, and never go back over a previously brushed area, even if it’s been only a minute. Slow brush speed! Light pressure (don’t try to bend the bristles past the softened tips). I must say that this is my recommendation for horizontal applications. For vertical you will be mandated to apply many thin coats! If you apply thin coats and sand between, you will need to force yourself to SAND LIGHTLY, else you will be taking two steps forward and one back. After your project is dry. You can sand any little high spots that the hand can feel, with a flat pad sander with 1000 grit paper, without affecting the visual appearance on satin finish. This finish will continue to cure for weeks, so be patient and wait a month before polishing with 2000 grit 3M and a buffer if that’s what your planning to do. If you have the self control to use this product correctly, it will provide a clear, hard and unbelievably smooth finish that is very nice. I use it on cornhole boards and it proved to be the perfect finish for slide. The cornhole association gives instruction for establishing appropriate bag slide by placing a bag at end of finished board, lift the end of board until the bag begins to slide on its own, and measure how high the board was raised to initiate the movement. I bought this product to use as a primer & sealer on Dollar Tree Foam board. The foam board paper was delaminating's during prep for painting with other water based products that I tried. I have had great success with good results. This is the water based product that doesn't have strong chemical odour. I have used it as a primer for Water based acrylic paint as well as enamel spray paint. It dries quickly and sands really easy making prep a snap. I have also patched delaminated foamboard using this as an adhesive by applying it both to the foam and paper. Super easy cleanup with water.
