    • Updated: Don't waste your Money, it also Rusts! Barely adequate, wire shelving too flimsy.
Update May 28, 2019: I moved my plant starts outdoors in early April to harden them off, I used the plant rack for this purpose and later to get some lime beans started. I finished planting out everything last weekend and dismantled the plant rack tonight. The frigging poles are already rusting. Cheapo! The similar style rack I bought elsewhere eight years ago is still in great shape no rust anywhere and it's been outside for a number of spring/summer seasons. Now nobody should buy this product expecting a sturdy semi-permanent greenhouse to sit on a deck or patio. I had purchased what I now realize was a different brand of this temporary greenhouse design a decade ago and it's been fabulous for spring seed starting in my Mid-Atlantic home where it's rare to get Midwestern style storms. The shelving could easily be moved against the house when bad weather was forecast and disassembled when seeds starting is done, put in a box and taken out the next year. With the exception of the reinforced cover this brand's version is very flimsy, the plastic side connectors are thinner, the wire shelves are really thinner and the shelving pulled apart when I attempted to move it four feet from shade to sun. The shelving is bending from the weight of just flats of tomato and pepper starts in small coffee cups. Look for other brands for this item. The ones with lower gauge wire shelving (thicker) are great for seasonal use in an area not subject to dangerous storms are a much better buy even if $20-$30 more. ... show more

Easy to assemble, basic shelf unit. Will never hold weight as shown in advertisement. Problem is I had 2 flats per shelf with seedlings, after 6 weeks the front bottom (left side in pink picture) plastic leg broke where post is inserted (see leg and broken support sleeve in 1st picture) causing unit to lean forward and fall over. What a mess, you can see my cleanup halfway through. Flats on the floor already picked up and replanted, dirt and mud still on the floor. I stood unit up and found the problem. Wont re-use, don't trust it. Ordered this to replace it. Nexel 798760 4-Shelf Wire Shelving Unit, 18" W x 36" L x 74" H, Black Hope I can use the green cover on the new rack. ... show more

Update: well that didn't last long. Despite securing it with some thick string to the railing, it still managed to blow over with the gentlest of breezes. If you have a solid way to secure this, it's great. Otherwise you risk damaging your plants if it blows over. ---- I couldn't believe the price on this thing. While it has its shortcomings, the value is enough that I rate it a 5/5. Assembly was super easy and intuitive--I did it myself in maybe 5-10 minutes. The poles are metal, but the connectors are plastic; I can see how a heavy load or just sun + time might cause them to crack. It's a little wobbly/flimsy, but once you put stuff inside to weigh it down, it stabilizes better. When you keep the zips down, it gets nice and humid inside. Two things you should be aware of are A) it blows over really easily, and B) it probably can't handle heavy loads. If you've got some small pots and you secure the greenhouse well, I don't think you'll run into any problems. I used string to keep it attached to the railing on my balcony. You really don't want to risk it blowing over and destroying your plants. This was perfect for my needs--cheap, lightweight, great for experimenting with smaller pots and kratky hydroponics setups. ... show more

This is a very well built small greenhouse. In the picture you see I only used two shelves, plants are tall. Every spring we get our annuals as soon as possible. Transplant them individually into larger containers. Place them into a small portable greenhouse. This one is the best value we’ve ever seen. It’s a perfect size to place on a furniture dolly (shown) so we can roll it in and out of shelter for cold nights. ... show more

Mine came with a minor defect in one seam, which explains the 4 stars, but even at that I am delighted with this product. I need something to start seeds in a relatively warm climate and keep the seedlings safe from the rabbits and other nibblers. The first one of these works so well for me that I have ordered a second. Even if it only lasts a few years (it is not especially sturdy) I will be happy that I got it. ... show more

    • VERY easy to put together, and fairly sturdy for indoor use (haven't tried it outside yet)
I like that it is so easy to put together. I just got it a couple months ago, so I can't speak to longevity yet, but I like the plastic fixtures used as the joints between bars for ease of assembling and (hopefully) disassembling when I'm done with it for the season. I wish there was a crossbar between the front and back arched bars at the top, which seems like it might add a little more stability. I'm using it in my sewing room to start seeds for my spring flowers, so right now that isn't really an issue. I've bumped it around some as I move trays of seedlings and grow lights around, and while, yes, it does shimmy a little, it definitely doesn't feel like it's in imminent danger of collapsing or pushing/falling over. So for my indoor needs I'm satisfied that it can handle the load I'm putting on it. I have the grow lights suspended from the underside of each shelf (with one duct-taped to the cross bars above the top shelf, since there's nothing to suspend it from), and there is not even a hint that it might be too much load for them. I'm currently not using the cover since the setup is indoors, but I'm planning on moving it outside in a month or so to harden off my plants, so I'll put it on then. I like that it has that green mesh running through it, because I think it will help block some of the sun so the seedlings don't get full sun right off the bat. Also, it feels sturdier than the plastic on the last little greenhouse I had (different brand), so I'm hoping it should last longer. All in all, I'm happy with it, and I'd buy it again. ... show more
