I fly RC airplanes as a hobby. I own two enthusiast-level 'racing' quadcopters that I am honestly a bit intimidated by and that require significant outdoors open space to use safely, so they have basically sat on the shelf. So when I saw this 'toy-level' quadcopter pop up in my Vine 'Recommended for You' list, I knew I had to try it out! Compared to my racing drones, this quadcopter is simple to use and is very forgiving for beginners. I HIGHLY recommend that you do your first few flights in a very large open space, ideally outdoors with no wind, until you become familiar (and have memorized) the layout of the included controller. Once you can fly it (and trim it) without taking your eye off the drone, flying around in your living room is both possible and enjoyable. Pros: Easy to learn. Built-in gyro (computer-assisted stability) is excellent, way better than my 10x more expensive drones! Once trimmed, it basically hovers in place with next to no control inputs. Executing flips is super easy once you've read the manual. It has 3 speeds, and at higher speeds it is possible to fly it outdoors in a slight breeze (no more than 5 MPH!). The package includes everything you need to fly (except 3 AAA batteries for the controller). The included batteries give about 5-8 minutes of flight time, which will be dependent on how aggressively you fly and/or the speed at which you fly. Includes a spare set of props and a prop wrench to assist with changing them (have not tried). Cons: Don't expect it to hover perfectly in place without the need to trim (fine-tune) the gyro every flight. If you fly it in too small of a space, you will be very frustrated because it will bump into stuff before you have a chance to trim it. The included batteries and chargers are totally proprietary, so you will not be able to buy spares or use them in another device. Eventually you WILL break a prop or burn out a motor and there does not appear to be a way to get replacements beyond the 1 spare set of props that are included inside the package. Other thoughts: Hair is the enemy of these little quadcopters. If you fly it around (and crash it) indoors, eventually hair/dust bunnies/carpet fibers/etc will get wrapped around the prop shafts, which will need to be remedied before it can fly properly. **If you try to use this in 'racing' (ground) mode, that is a recipe for destroying the motors due to the aforementioned hair/dust bunny threat.** Don't to that! The pictures in the listing show diaper-aged children, there is literally no way a toddler is going to be able to learn how to use this without major adult supervision/intervention. Maybe a 7-8 year old can do so with a little instruction by an adult up-front, which fits with the listings' text of 'age 8-12'. Overall - I am very impressed and feel this is a great value for the money at the current price of under $25 (after coupon code applied).

Considering the low price of this drone it really exceeded my expectations. The package is very complete including the controller, 2 batteries, 2 chargers, spare props and even a tool for removing props. All you need to add is 3 AAA batteries for the controller and you're ready to go! The drone has a pretty decent autopilot for the price. It has auto takeoff, auto land, altitude hold and some special tricks like automatic 360 flips. All the features work very well. The auto takeoff button will bring it up to a hover about chest high, a second press does the reverse, landing it. While altitude and position hold aren't perfect, they work well if you're flying indoors in a space the size of a living room. In a small room the drone's own propwash will make it drift, but it still doesn't take much effort on the controls to keep it where you want it. It's also possible to fly this outside, but there has to be almost NO wind, even a slight breeze will make it hard to control. The controller is sensitive enough so the drone will respond to very small movements, so while you are learning don't throw the sticks around too much and you'll be fine. The controller also has buttons for trim which is really helpful. Take your drone up in a good sized room. If you find it drifts left/right or forward/back you can use the trim buttons to adjust it till it stays put. It's not going to be perfect, but with the trim you can get it to pretty much hover in one spot. A particularly nice thing on this drone is that it DOES NOT use a bare battery and a wire with a plug. This one has the batteries in a plastic case that just snaps in and makes the batteries much able to handle, particularly for kids. It has an on-off switch so you can actually turn it off without having to completely remove the battery. Also you get 2 batteries and TWO CHARGERS which is really appreciated. Each battery lasts for about 7 minutes and takes 60 minutes to charge, so you can fly for a bit and use the TWO chargers to have both batteries charging at the same time. The drone is super lightweight which makes it very safe as well as less likely to break. The props are all in little shrouds so the only real hazard would be getting them tangled up in someone's long hair. One thing to be aware of is that the tiny motors used in these kinds of drones will eventually ware out but you should still get plenty of use out of this, and at $30 for the whole drone, replacing it is cheap. The best way to extend the life of the motors is to let them cool off for a minute or so between batteries. Also you can fly multiple drones at the same time for racing, I'm not exactly sure how many, but at least two of them. The props are protected well enough that minor mid-air collisions shouldn't cause problems. There is also a "racing along the ground" mode which I haven't tested. From other drones I've had like this, one of the biggest problems with being on the ground is if lint or hair (pet or human) gets wound around the props. If this happens you can use the included tool to pop off the props and clean any hair that's wound around the motor shafts. This should be a great toy for an adult or any kid as long as they are smart enough to not slam the sticks all the way from one side to another. It takes a light touch, at least till you get used to it.

This shipped promptly and was received in its own colorful packaging, that is great to give as a gift. It has all the useful features that you would want to have such as attitude hold. It has bright LED lights that look great when you fly this drone at night. It comes with two batteries and basic battery chargers that give decent run times. The remote is comfortable in the hands and easy to use, and has all the features you would require for a beginner. The drone itself is lightweight and well-made, and comes with spares in case they are some breakages. The kids loved using the strong, even though it did take them a while to get the hang of it. We did find that it is best used indoors or if you use it outdoors with a no wind situation. The drone experienced it’s fair share of crashes, but was durable and his continued to work without issue. If you want a fun, small beginner drone this is perfect for kids or even adults.
