I have a lot of large shrubs in beds that also play host to fast growing weeds like poke. The weeds are to stout for a string trimmer. Until I got the brush cutter attachment, leveling those weeds was tedious. Now, it's laughably quick and easy. I already had batteries, and this was motivation to buy the power head as well. If you already have the power head and you frequently have to clear brush close to the ground, this is a no-brainer. If you have to buy the power head, it's a lot bigger leap, but I have three other attachments now, so I'm getting my money's worth out of the power head. I really like this because it does the really heavy cutting of under brush that grows in the woods. I didn’t have anything on my Milwaukee line trimmer and this is just an attachment and easy to put on and works really great. I have a few Bradford Pear trees left. They trouble with them is, the roots have shoots grow up from them that a string trimmer just laughs at. Not this thing, it zips right through them easily and asks for more. I also have a lot of Johnson Grass that grows along my ditch banks. Its stalks are like bamboo, again, this thing cuts right through it with ease. With the M18 12.0 batteries you get plenty of cutting per charge so battery life is great. Another thing I've noticed, this thing doesn't throw grass and clippings all over you like a string trimmer, bonus! If you have the M18 QuikLok system, you really need this! ... show more

    • Does a solid job, strap is way too long, no fence guard
First off -- it did the job. I cut through over 200 sq ft of hard brush and canes without so much as a dulling of the blade. That being said, there are some oddities about this attachment. First off, while I was glad of the included shoulder strap (which is definitely needed), the strap itself is way too long. Even shortened to its smallest length, it's still about an inch too long for me, and I have to constantly pull the nose of the tool up. I can't imagine who this strap is designed for -- the largest person I know would still have to shorten it. Second -- the instructions are not well written. It's not easy to see at first glance which direction the hip protection bar should go, nor precisely how to attach it. (You actually have to disassemble a previously-attached handle to properly place it, which is irritating and not easy -- the hip protection bar should probably have been part of the quik-lok base itself. It also took me a while to realize that there is no "up" for the blade itself -- both sides are usable, and indeed you can flip it over once one side has gotten dulled. It's important to note that there is no blade fence such as you might be used to on weed whackers, and therefore it's quite possible for the blade to hit a metal post or other permanent object in the vicinity of where you are cutting. When this happens, the force of collision tends to cause the blade to unscrew itself until at some point it just won't rotate when the motor is on. You'll definitely want to tighten it down quite hard, and of course then be aware of objects in the vicinity. (I'm thinking of attaching a guard fence to it somehow, since it's a real problem when cutting through stuff near a chain link fence.) ... show more
