HVAC, Electrical, and a little plumbing in remodels. I bought this tool on a whim not having tried or seen one other than online. I ordered this with the intention of using it to cut PVC linehide and was blown away by the functionality of the tool. it not only works great for pvc, it works great for drywall. I recently did a job where radiant heating tubing was laying unsupported on a ceiling i had to run wire through this tool cut only to the paper allowing me to slice the paper with a razor knife giving me more control taking cut drywall out above my head. dust extraction is a must when cutting drywall with this tool. I've used the makita drywall saw and it is much easier to make clean lines with, but slower, and harder to dial the depth right as to not cut anything behind the wall. dust is not as much of an issue with the makita tool. Also, this is my favorite tool to use when cutting metal. You name it, sheet metal, Uni-strut, all-thread, junction boxes, bolts, round duct, square duct, copper even, this is the tool for the job. Also this thing works wonders with the diamond blade for small work to flatten rock for mounting electrical disconnects for a/c to masonry. Also great for cutting tile for outlets or switches. The smaller battery packs do not seem to give the tool the same power as with the larger XC batteries, although I don't notice the difference on some of my other m12 tools. It doesn't twist in your hand when you start it like an angle grinder. It cuts fairly fast. It goes through framing nails instantly. 1/4" square stock takes a few seconds. It will bind up if you don't keep it square to your cut, though. So far I've only used it on metal, though I am interested in using the carbide grit disk and the shoe on drywall. With a depth stop and dust collection it might replace my corded roto-zip tool. It's too bad there's no m12 hosed vacuum to use with it... Update: I have cut drywall with it in a remodel situation and it is AMAZING. There is ZERO dust, it cuts as fast as you can move your hand, and there's no risk of cutting through any wires or pipes. The only tricks are 1. that when you start a cut you've got to plunge with the front of the plate touching the wall and 2. you've got to keep the cut totally straight or it'll bind up and stall. My only complaint is that the shoe is a bit tricky to get on and off. You have to twist it just right to fit the guard and disk through the hole in the side of the shoe.;;Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2018;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;Great middle ground between a 4" grinder and a dremel;;Mark;;;Milwaukee has introduced a lot of new additions to their M12 series of cordless tools and this Fuel 3" cutoff tool is perhaps the most versatile tool in the whole M12 lineup.
