  • Toasty, nutty flavor, in large chunks. Amazing price.
I was worried I wasn't going to like this, because I have never tried the brand and 12lb is a lot. It is over 250 servings, by their tally. (I would use it in half-cup servings, rather than quarter cup, but still at least 125 servings.) If you haven't tried tvp before, pick up a small bag of any brand first. I really like it, but it may not be for everyone. Price is amazing, for a good quality product. I will buy it again. For protein and calories, a 1/2c serving is very similar to 3.5oz 95% lean ground beef (raw weight), at about 1/4 of the price. Since it is dehydrated, 1lb tvp will substitute for a little over 2lb ground beef. For comparison, I usually get Bob's Red Mill, which is small "ground beef" sized crumbles, with basically no flavor at all. The Milpas Carne de Soya is much bigger pieces, and has a toasty nutty flavor. I really like the flavor, but it is definitely not as neutral as Bob's. The texture is about what you'd expect, though with the bigger pieces, some may find it off-putting. If you want smaller pieces, you can easily smash it up when it is dry, or put it in the food processer. Like any tvp, it is pre-cooked. You can just soak it in hot water, broth, etc and let it sit for a few minutes. Very convenient. Shelf stable. I would like if I could have bought just a pound of it, but at this price, I ham happy to have 12lb. ... show more

  • Very worth the price!!
Big chunks that can be broken to be smaller. Great flavor. Absorbs the flavor of whatever you put it in. I throw it in rice and pasta while it's cooking. I also crush it and make taco meat. The texture is on point when cooked. The ingredients are pure and it super easy to cook with or rehydrate!

  • A Budget-Friendly Protein Powerhouse
Looking for a plant-based protein source that's kind to your wallet and your taste buds? Look no further than MILPAS Soya Carne Protein. Here's what I loved about it: Pros: Affordable: This soy protein is incredibly budget-friendly, making it a great option for those looking for a cost-effective way to boost their protein intake. Versatile: MILPAS Soya Carne Protein is a blank canvas when it comes to flavor. You can season it to mimic various dishes like tacos, bolognese, or even lentil soup. High Protein: Each serving packs a decent punch of protein, making it a good choice for vegetarians, vegans, and anyone looking to increase their protein intake. Fiber Content: This soy protein also boasts a good amount of fiber, which can help with digestion and keep you feeling fuller for longer. Things to Consider: Texture: The texture of MILPAS Soya Carne Protein is slightly different than ground meat. It can be a little chunkier, but some reviewers recommend grinding it finer in a spice mill for a smoother texture. Preparation: This soy protein requires rehydration before use, which can take some extra time compared to pre-cooked options. Overall: MILPAS Soya Carne Protein is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a budget-friendly, versatile, and protein-packed plant-based ingredient. While it takes a bit more preparation than some other options, its affordability and adaptability make it a worthy addition to your pantry. I recommend this product to: Budget-conscious cooks Vegans and vegetarians looking for a protein boost Those who enjoy experimenting with plant-based recipes Would I buy it again? Absolutely! For the price and versatility, MILPAS Soya Carne Protein is a great option to have on hand for adding protein and texture to various dishes. ... show more

  • Very good!
These are like Butler's Soy Curls, but smaller pieces and way cheaper! I prefer the smaller size chunks since I typically chop up the soy curls anyway. The price comes out to $1.90 per 8oz vs. $4.7 per 8oz for the soy curls. Couldn't believe how much product I got for the price. Very easy to prepare, super tasty and healthy as well! Absorbs the flavour of whatever you season/marinate it with. This has become my main affordable (and delicious) protein source. Highly recommended if you're vegan or vegetarian! ... show more

  • Affordable, versatile & dependable
I keep this product on a frequent subscription, and use it to create easy and affordable vegan meals that even Bible-belt carnivores enjoy. It's all in the preparation, and overall I am quite pleased with the product. It's not the best TVP I've had, but I've yet to order a bad batch. I have experienced a few mishaps in shipping, though. The boxes routinely come absolutely battered and sometimes I lose a pack or two because they're open. ... show more

  • soy 👍
ordered a lot of soy, received a lot of soy. what more can I say really. the granules are definitely larger than most other TVP I’ve had, but that’s not really a negative. it rehydrates pretty quickly when I pour boiling water on it. it of course doesn’t have much of a taste on its own, but that’s what spices are for. the only thing I’d change is the packaging. 12 separate plastic bags feels pretty excessive. and I mean, it’d be nice if it were cheaper but less than $5/lb isn’t too bad for the amount of protein you get ... show more

  • Economical, needs proper prep to be tasty
This was a very good buy. I acquired 12 pounds for less than $38 USD. This isn't the even textured bits of a common nationally available brand, but that is nothing a spice mill won't solve. Using a spice mill to turn this into a finer grain is important to me because I find the texture to be spongy, and, if it isn't well seasoned, that texture makes me think of chewing wet cardboard. That might not be a factor in every use, but, for me, it dictates use. Because I am using this as a protein filler, it makes it reasonably effective to grind a measured portion. I do this after I grind my spice, to clean the grinder without water. I use separate grinders for spice and coffee, because both have strongly flavored oils. The soy crumbles clean the blades, and increase to palatable texture. What I have not been able to do is use this alongside ground meat, at least, not in chili, but I have used this in place of ground meat, once, to make stuffed butternut squash. I don't recommend making that substitution for an omnivore. Anyone who knows and likes a good beef burger or sausage will know, so you will want to tell them. But, I have successfully added this, ground, for a meat-free loaf type dish. It's not Mama's meatloaf, but, if you pour on enough milk gravy, it will be edible. That makes this stuff economical and versatile. Good enough for me. ... show more
