  • SOLID ITEM. Slight variations from my own service item, but specs may have changed since my time.
Short Review : As of Oct. 15th, 2020 This is a solid item. I found many little differences when comparing it to my own old service duffle - but it looks like it can and will still hold up. If you are looking for a good duffle, this could be the one you are looking for. Things to note: There are several poor reviews listed for this item - please be aware that this is more of a "seller" issue as opposed to an "item" issue. Seller is responsible to properly grade listed items, and though it serves as a good "warning" - the integrity of the item itself should still have an opportunity to get a proper review. As for this item: This is a solid "go" for me. Though different from my own issued duffle when I served, it is still quite clear that this item will hold up to the abuse that soldiers tend to inflict upon their gear. Longer review: So, here for the longer review, eh? Come over, sit down. Grab a cup of joe and get ready to hear some marvelous tales of bravery and sacrifice... just kidding. I'm just planning on telling you the differences I found when I compared this duffle to my old one. OK. Initial inspection: Fabric is a lighter shade of olive green than my actual service duffle. This is not a big deal for me and does not affect the basic integrity of the bag. Just something to note for those who are interested. If I see a lot of interest (click on that helpful icon if there is) I'll take some time out of my life to snap and post some pictures. The fabric looks to be about the same as my old duffle. I don't think they changed the fabric requirement much in this area. Stitching is very different. My old service duffle has a LOT more reinforced stitching. Quadruple stitched in some places, where this one has single or double stitching. Even the boxed stitching for the straps on my older one are double stitched and is much more heavily reinforced than the newer ones. This is not necessarily a good thing (or a bad thing). If I had to choose, I would choose my older one over the newer ones hands down - but it could be "over-built" and they discovered that these bags were not ripping much from these areas anyway - who knows, maybe the threads are a stronger spec on the new ones and they don't need so much redundancy? Anyway, the stitches on the new ones look solid (just not as reinforced as my old one). From my experience with similar stitching on other bags, they hold up pretty well. I can update this review (again, if there is interest) if these bags don't hold up, but from just eye-balling it, these bags can easily hump 40-60 pounds without ripping. The pocket on the side looks slightly bigger - again just my eye-ball measure. There are graphic differences with the old "US" and the newer "US." I'm fine with all of that cosmetic stuff as long as the bag does what its supposed to. These are good bags. They are tough and solid. When we served, they held ALL our issued clothing as we moved from base to base. There is a reason why the government still relies on these bags with only slight modifications here and there after decades. I saw a lot of the negative reviews rating the condition of the bags they received. It is terrible that they are not getting what they expected, but that is a seller issue. Not a product issue. I bought from a seller "best buy deals 4 u" - and they sent me two new bags. Condition listed was "used - like new." Which I appreciated. I'm a bit sad that I didn't grab 2 more, but that is the unfortunate situation with these kind of listings. Seller confidence and credibility. I've bought from a handful of Military Surplus stores here, and a lot of them are grading their used items much higher than they should so they can try and command that higher price and faster sale. These sellers hurt the overall market and need to be given some stricter standards (or more specific measures) by which to judge their items before listing. Anyway, I'm thankful for the ones I did manage to grab, and if you guys see these listed as "used - like new" I would say, take a chance on these. Amazon is a great place to get great stuff and they have great policies to protect their buyers. These are great bags. Good luck! I buy these items with my own pennies. If you found my review helpful in anyway, or would even be interested in seeing if these bags indeed hold up, share the love. Click on that helpful icon so I know you're out there! • Barf
I was so excited to get a bag that looked exactly like the one I had in boot camp. When I opened the package, the bag smelt so horrid! Tried washing it, didn’t help. Horrible product

  • This bag was obviously used and damaged
This bag was received and upon opening it, it had been scribbled on with black marker and smelled terrible. This was obviously used and returned. It’s disgusting. The quality seems fine but there is no excuse for a used and damaged item to be be passed off as new. Returning immediately.

  • BIG and hefty
I had a homeless gent who wanted one of these to make a trip to another state where he hoped to be living. He needed something durable but with shoulder straps to carry. This is not military grade, but it is substantial. I would buy again, no doubt.

  • Stout and rugged, but condition may vary
This is the second one of these I've purchased. Here are the pros and cons: Pro: Like all the USGI bags of this type, it is rugged, and you will probably wear out before it does. This one was purchased to help me haul all of the tree stand seats, lifelines, cameras, and other paraphernalia I've got installed on my hunting property now that the season is over. It will admirably fill that role. Cons: When it arrived, it became obvious that, as other reviews have noted, supplier you purchase from matters. This one had several rips that had been neatly patched with fabric of the same type and color as the bag. Nice job on that, but I would have rather that fact had been clearly stated. The bottom also had remnants of cream colored paint, which I expected but wish wasn't present. But what definitely is a problem is that it smelled AWFUL, like someone had vacuum sealed their dirty underwear in it and left it for several days. So, the first thing I did was put it in my washing machine with some scent killing detergent. I have high hopes that will fix that issue. We will see. But caveat emptor on that. Final analysis: At less than 1/2 the price of a new one and for my intended use, it's worth buying. But probably better have some scent killer detergent on hand (like Dead Downwind or similar), just in case. UPDATE 1/6/24. Smell remains a persistent issue. Scent killer hasn't eliminated it entirely, but it has improved. Going to try a good spray down with scent killer next. ... show more

  • Genuine surplus
In "like new" condition except for a name written in permanent marker. Great for use intended. Camping. You can pack all you need for extended stay in this. To include a small tent, fishing equipment whatever else you had the way of rough campsite gear. Water proof, extremely durable. Straps provide easy carry on one's back. ... show more

  • Reasonably priced.
I purchased this bag for a grandson to move his clothing from Virginia to home in California due to summer break at UVA. He was disappointed with the quality. It did meet the airline requirements and held the maximum weight.

  • Bought 2 used ones
Although used they were in great shape. One was missing the metal loop for the flap rings to fold over and hook it closed, but it is used and still could easily be closed if you hook a pad lock through all the holes or make a small loop out of 550 cord to hook the clasp onto. Very satisfied with the shape of the bags themselves overall!!! I would definitely buy more if I need anymore. ... show more
