I used this with a tatimi mat on the floor. Certainly on the firm side. Slept well, and found the futon comfortable. The fabric is nice and it folds up well. Light weight so it’s easy to move around and set outside to air out.

After a few weeks in, it feels pretty good. I haven't had any issues with the futon mattress. It is thinner compared to the other futon I used before, but it works fine.

The quality is great, but it’s way too thin for me. My Japanese mother looked at it and started laughing, saying it’s like the osembe futon (which means cracker) she used to sleep on when she was little. If it was twice as thick, which I thought it was according to the photos, it’d be Great.

    • Don't buy this! Not comfortable, super thin, and it has no bags for storage!
The actual product is thinner than the video / photo on the site. Not comfortable at all. We ended up having to find duvets and many blankets to put on top to make it comfortable for my 12 years old to sleep on. I don't recommend this product. I'm now looking into a blow up mattress for my guests and sleep over. ... show more

So, when I first ordered this there were a very small amount of reviews, and they were all 5 stars. after I received this item I found another item with over 200 reviews, and while most of them were positive not all of them were. Mine came with a big ridge in it. I put a question out there, and got helpful feedback from another buyer. The afvise from the seller was not so helpful. They presumed I was talking about aesthetics. I, personally, was worried about comfort. Anyway, the other buyer was right the futon continued to puff out, & the ridge became no big deal. On the other review thread some poor student was saying he found the futon as hard as the floor. He was demoralised as loads of reviewers claimed it was like sleeping on a cloud. So,...no, usually this mattress is not like sleeping on a cloud. You may lay on it initially, and worry at how hard it is. I did. However, I sleep on this every night, and I sleep pretty well. A difference from my last mattress is that however long I spend lying on this futon I never leave it with a backache. It is comfortable. I still plan on buying myself a super lush eco mattress at some point, but I am happy with this. I am single. Insomnia has led me to reading books on sleep hygiene. I have heard that beds should only be used for two activities. One of those is obviously sleeping. If you regularly indulge in the other activity you may want a bit more bounce and cushion. Idk, but possibly. Having tested this futon out, I would buy another one if the need was ever there. ... show more

    • Great but not perfect
Bought it for a road trip and haven’t went yet, so update will follow after. Ofcorse this is meant to be used on a flat surface but I have tried it out in my trunk with the back seats folded down and it’s very comfortable. I have to add that the support it offers is not ideal and after laying for 10 minutes the lump becomes apparent. So I’m building a platform to have a flat sleeping surface. I also got foam to make it more plush and will use it below the futon. I feel like this would work well to sleep on the floor and I’m probably going to try that out sometime soon. ... show more
