  • I love this crate and so does my dog
Style: Double Door Size: 36-Inch
I purchased many many crates for my dogs in the past 45 years, I bought the cheapest and I bought the most expensive. You used to have to get them at the pet store and pay anywhere from $90-$200 for standard great. Thank goodness for Amazon. I just added to my "stable" of dogs with an eight-week-old golden retriever named Bentley. Now he's just a little guy weighing in at 12 pounds but he will get bigger. Right now he fits in a small crate and I mean fits. He can get in it but he can't lay down or turn around. I needed to get him a crate he can grow into so I went online to Amazon and looked around. I saw my old friends Midwest who stood by me with durable crates during my dog show days. They always made a sturdy crate out of heavy-duty material that was well engineered and well put together. It's been a few years since I bought a crate and a few things have changed. Pretty much now everybody offers a folding crate that wasn't so back in the day Midwest was one of the first to offer that feature and they did it well and they still do. They have a variety of sizes more so than most manufacturers so I chose the middle middle size which is a little bigger than other manufacturers middle size. Some of the features I like was this one has double doors, one on the side and one on the end. Each closes and locks sturdily and securely with two hasps on each door. Nowadays the bottom tray is made of plastic instead of steel so with a little lighter and more resistant to corrosion and easily cleaned. I ordered this crate and it came promptly from Amazon as I am an Amazon prime member. It was packaged well and arrived without damage and I had it set up in less than 5 min.. The only problem was the location where I was going to use it was against a wall and the doors were all wrong. Well I solved that by swapping the ends by bending back four hooks on each end, then squeezing them tight again to finish up, this took all of 3 min. to do in my crate or I should say that Bentleys crate was ready to go. One of the big advantages of having the second door is that when I wanted to introduce Bentley to crate I left both doors open so he could wander in and out at his leisure. I placed a few toys and water bowl in their as well as a wee wee pad and some bedding. He was curious and wandered in and out. I will admit however, the first night he was full of screams and barks and crying for most of the night. It was his first night in a crate. The second night I placed him in the crate and he laid down and was quiet until early morning. When he saw me and heard me moving around a little bit he started vocalizing so I took him out. The Crate also comes with a divider so you can change the size as your dog grows. At this point I'm not even using divider and giving Bentley full run of the crate. I am really glad that Amazon is selling these and the price is phenomenal. If you go to a pet store I'm sure you will easily over $150 for this crate or poorly made imitation. I really recommend Midwest and I think you'll be very happy with the quality and the operation of this crate. if you're a first-time buyer, check the AKC standards for how big your dog will be, then buyer accordingly. Don't buy too small as you will have to buy bigger later on. I give this five stars I love it I know you will too and it's recommended buy If you found my review helpful please click yes on the button below I really appreciate your support for that I intend to leave reviews to help others make decisions prior to purchase taste upon my recommendations or disclosure and I utilize your reviews to help me with my purchases as well. my reviews are honest factual and accurate thank you ... show more

  • Handy training tool
Style: Double Door Size: 36-Inch
This sets up easily and is well made and sturdy. We purchased this to house train our new rescue, a 6 year old female Sheltie who had never been house trained or socialized indoors with a family. (Puppy mill decided she had aged out of her purpose for them....I know, I know; don't get me started.) Aaaaanywho, we purchased the Medium Dog size and there is plenty of room for an average sized Shetland Sheepdog, approximately 35 lbs and 13" high at the shoulder. She has room to turn around, shift positions and can stand with some head-room. We also purchased this comfy bed and it fits PERFECTLY inside the crate.: MidWest Bolster Pet Bed | Dog Beds Ideal for Metal Dog Crates | Machine Wash & Dry House training is coming along beautifully and we now only put our newbie in it at night, until we can trust her not to have accidents. Bottom line, we'd definitely buy it again. No brainer for us. It does what it is intended to do, is well-made and sturdy, plus it sets up in a snap and arrived quickly. It does the job. ... show more

  • Have bolt cutters nearby and weight down the top. Great customer service! And some advice
Style: Double Door Size: 24-Inch
I broke this into sections, so that the reader can jump to whatever part they want. Weigh down the top of the crate: We almost had a mishap with our small breed puppy (a poo-chi). She was about 6 months old at the time and had been potty trained in it. Since I am early retired, I am home all the time. I also never left the house without her. This is what she became accustomed too. As long as she heard me doing things around the house, she was perfectly fine. I finally decided to take this one step further and leave her in there with the gate locked while I went out for quick errands without her (not more than an hour). She seemed to have no problems with this. When she was 4 months old, my siblings and I threw a 60th anniversary party for my parents. She was crated far longer than normal as the party took place at a catering hall. We got home 5 hours after I left her. Inexplicably, She was able to tear apart a bag of dog food that was sitting on top of her crate as I was staying with my parents for the anniversary party and really didn't have any room to put the dog food bag except on top of the crate. It was inside a brown paper shopping bag and when we got home, my puppy had torn a good section of one side of the bag into little pieces, yet the bag and my dog remained where I left them 5 hours ago. This always puzzled me. Now reading other reviews, it sounds like leaving the bag on top of her crate may have saved her life. It's possible that she was able to stick her nose out enough to get at the bag. Had the 5lb bag not been there, she might not be with me right now. Have bolt cutters nearby: What I did witness scared the living daylights out of me. One time Iwhen I was leaving her behind when she was almost 8 months old and now 8lbs, (I always stay with her for a good hour before I leave just to keep her relaxed.) She already knew what was going to happen and immediately started protesting by trying to bite the bars. I was trying to get her to stop as she has done this before and stopped whenever I asked. Unfortunately, this time, somehow, she fit her snoot through the bars, top jaw on one side of the bar and bottom jaw on the other (this occurred on the vertical bars which are spaced further apart than the horizontal bars). She continued biting despite my asking her to stop. Then in one of the bites, she was completely stuck with the bar in her mouth and her upper and lower jaw not having enough room to slip out. I thought she was a goner as she was starting to struggle so bad and calming her down wasn't working. I tried helping too, but didn't have any good angles to work with. She finally obtained an angle with her lower jaw that she slipped it out and then was able to get the upper jaw out. I was so relieved. She won't even try to bite the bars now, but I never wanted trauma to be the reason why she stopped. While she was struggling, I was going to ask my father if he still had bolt cutters. Just as I went to ask, she freed herself. Customer Service: The part about customer service had nothing to do with this event. I ordered the double door crate for the flexibility of orienting the crate any way I wanted (In fact, I'm about to rotate it 90 degrees today). When I took the crate out of the box and assembled it, ,which was extremely easy, including pushing the clamps down to hold every wall in place, I couldn't figure out where the 2nd door was. It's the first time I was looking at a crate to be honest. There were lots of clamps and other items like the 1 door I did see. I even thought maybe the second door slid up vertical some how, but nope in all aspects. This was a single door unit without a doubt. The box said double door, so I immediately thought someone switched out a double door crate and put a single door crate back in. They have a plaque welded on the side which includes the model number. The model number on this single door crate was, in fact, the model number for the double door crate. Go figure! Amazon customer service referred me to the manufacturer as this was a warranty problem (um, okay?). Midwest customer service asked me to take pictures on all sides including the side with the welded plaque with the model number. I sent the pics in and no less than 10 minutes they called and told me they were sending me a new crate. No questions asked. Beautiful!! Advice #1 (only advice, you don't have to take it :-) ) My dog goes in and out of it all the time because I throw her toys and chews in there to keep her familiar with it. I am using it as a piece of furniture, too. I got a beautiful custom crate cover from Etsy (not unreasonably priced) in a pattern that fits my bedroom. I am looking to get a glass top to make it a table top, too. My puppy is completely comfortable with the crate and I love the idea I have turned it into a piece of furniture without the $400 price tags of furniture crates (well, it will be a piece of furniture once the glass top comes in). The glass top easily showcases the pretty crate cover while protecting it from spills and dust. Once I get the glass top, which is quite heavy, it will also serve to weigh down the top so my puppy can't get stuck between the top and one of the walls. Plus, I am putting other things on top of the table, so it will truly be weighed down well. Advice #2 (only advice, you don't have to take it :-) ) Lastly, don't throw away your old phones. There are apps on android and iphones that help you monitor your pup while you are gone. The one I have functions in infrared light as well, so I can make sure she is okay well into the evening. ... show more

  • Good enough
Style: Single Door Size: 24-Inch
I needed a kennel for my rambunctious cat and this has worked out well for him. He's around 8 pounds and it's roomy enough for him when he's in trouble. I would not get this cage for anything but a very small dog or a cat. Though there is bigger size options that might work well. Once you have it out all folded together it's a bit difficult to fold it back up again. This small crate while akward to carry can be used to carry your cat short distances. Would not use it though as a carrying crate if you have something else. ... show more

  • Can't destroy this kennel!
Style: Single Door Size: 48-Inch
I got this kennel for our hyper puppy that was destroying the portable canvas kennel we had for our other dog. No way can she destroy this kennel. Easy to put together and very roomy; we have the XL size for our growing shepherd/husky.
