  • Worked well, while it lasted
Size: 6" x 2" Round Ceramic
I used this in my Dutchwest model #2462. The stove threw amazing heat after I put it in. But it didn't last very long. I put it in on Dec 26, 2019, burned until March 15, 2020. I just went to clean out the stove for this year and found nothing but a round ring and a pile of dust. It completely burned away. I was really expecting it to last a little longer than that. The last one I bought lasted 3 years before a small part of it burned out. I've put that one back until I can buy a new one, but this is disappointing that it just burned up in less than 4 months. ... show more

  • Homemade Cat Combustor for my non - Cat "EPA" Englander stove.
Size: 6" x 2" Round Ceramic
This little 2" X 6" Cat really works in my Custom made Stainless steel catalytic Converter / diverter. Idea came from one My dad had back in the 80's 90's One similar to what I made , his was the Black steel like heavy BLK Stove pipe, Mine is made of Stainless Sheetmetal. I sandwiched 2 C channel shaped pcs of SS Sheetmetal 2 1/8"X 6 1/8" Gap X 13 " long one on top of other and sealed it with gasket meant for the Green Egg cookers, Made ends for it in brake press, mig welded one end, other end is serviceable When it is Ready MIN. 500 DG F, I slide it into the pipe position and it lights off to about 800-900+ degree and I look out at my chimney and no more smoke, or very little wisp of smoke, great reduction in Creosote in my 21' of Triple wall SS chimney. I will try to attach a pic soon , if possible. When i get up at 6 AM its still 500 DG ... show more

  • Excellent product. Excellent company.
Size: 4" x 10.6" x 2" Ceramic
An excellent buy!! It works perfectly and activates exactly as promised. When I asked the seller to clarify a concern, the response came in minutes. Very, very impressed. I will most certainly return to this product and seller. Highly, highly recommend. Update: Nearly two months later and this combustor is amazing. It heats fast, stays lit for longer periods than the original Blaze King combustor, and there is little if any back puffs. If only I could give it AND the company another 5 Stars. Update, 2 years later: this combustor is STILL working perfectly. No cracks. Heats quickly. Easy to clean with a soft brush. I wonder if the bad reviews are from ppl who don’t know how to use a catalytic stove. Dry wood only. Never green or wet. Just a thought. ... show more

  • Stove Heats Much Faster Now
Size: 2.5" x 13" x 2" Ceramic
I bought a Vermont Casting Winterwarm fireplace insert in 1997. I'm not very good at reading instruction manuals so I never knew I needed to replace the Catalytic Combustor. The stove was still heating the house to a comfortable temperature of around 74° with a combustor that was 23 years old. I was reading an article about wood stoves and the article was saying to replace your catalyst ever 5 years or 500 hours of use. I went online to see what I had to do to replace the catalyst and I took the stove apart to get to the Catalytic Combustor. I posted a picture with this review of the old combustor after almost 23 years of use. I got my new combustor the day after I placed the order. I got it installed - put the stove back together and started a fire to test it out. Wow! Replacing the combustor made a huge difference. The house heated up much faster and now the temperature was up 78°. I'm not having to use as much wood either to fuel the fire. I've only been using this combustor for a few weeks, but I'm highly satisfied with it's performance. ... show more

  • One small complaint
Size: 6" x 10.625" x 2" Ceramic
So there is a strip - like 2inchX16inchX1/4inch - that goes around the side of the combustor that came with the package. Unless i missed it there was no instructions on how to attach it - if you needed to glue it or not since it would slide when you tried to insert the combustor into the stove combustor carrier (very tight fit). I finally used some stove rope "glue" to tack it down - just to keep it from slidding off. That was my only complaint on the product. The Buck 91 stove was a real pain though to replace the combustor. Had 8 nuts holding the metal combustor chamber - and the chamber itself weighed like 20 lbs - so it was a major PIA to re-installed since you had to reached inside of the box and lift it up - while attempting to screw a nut on. Not recommeded for those like me are 65+.... ... show more

  • Nice combustor
Size: 3.6" x 18" x 3" Ceramic
This is the second catalytic combuster I've purchased for my Fireplace Xtrordinair, and it is by far the best. The honeycomb has a more solid appearance than my prior unit. It fires up very nicely, glowing brightly with a noticeably hotter output. Highly recommended.

  • Good While it Lasts
Size: 6" x 2" Round Ceramic
I can never seem to get more than 2 seasons (about 3 total cords of wood) and sometimes only one season out of this combuster before it just does not produce the heat that it is supposed to. The price is good and it seems well made, but after one season I can barely get my very best firewood to product a stove probe thermometer temperature much above 700, when normal operating temperatures with a good combuster should be 800-1000. The original combuster that came with my Dutchwest stove 20 years ago lasted nearly 6 seasons and often gave me thermometer temps of 1000-1200 even during years 3-5. Admittedly, my woodstove may not be as airtight as it was when new, but it is still in good condition and I clean the combuster chamber thoroughly every season. This combuster does come with a 5 year warranty, but it's not worth pursuing. You have to ship your old combuster and sales receipt to the manufacturer at your expense and then you also must pay them $15 to ship you a new one, plus the warranty is steeply pro-rated. The bottom line is that after 3 seasons, it is cheaper to buy a new one than to exercise the warranty. However, I don't know of anything better. Buying directly from Dutchwest (Vermont Castings) is outrageously expensive ($500 plus). I'll try another brand of combuster I found from Mountain View Hearth Products and see what luck I have. ... show more

  • Not as pictured and shown
Size: 6" x 2" Round Ceramic
Well it arrived on time. No gasket included as is described so I'm off to find a store somewhere I guess that carries it... For the price wouldn't have killed you to include it. Disappointed out of the starting gate. UPDATE: I found a stove store and purchased the $26 gasket from them adding that to my total price for this product which was falsely advertised as having the gasket included. Either fraud or just really bad quality control? Either way, I am out another $26 for a gasket. This thing better hold up... ... show more
