As I said in the headline, this is a small bag, but enough to do two gas fireplaces, and they really work great. Nice warm glow to increase efficiency. It's worth the price; after all, it's platinum.

these embers make a great fit for liquid fueled hand warmers or catalytic hand warmers like zippos. makes them run a little hotter and seems to last longer. they are a bit expensive, but once you buy a pack of these embers you really don’t have to buy anymore since the catalysts last for about 100 uses. This could possibly last a lifetime if you use the right amount. I’ve rebuilt about five zippo catalysts and I’ve only gone through about an 1/8th of the bag. Just be careful to wear gloves and to not breathe in the dust it makes because I’m sure it could do some harm to your lungs. But overall these are a lot better than buying the expensive catalyst pads that aren’t great quality. I also bought another pack of these to use in my gas fireplace and they worked extremely well and were very easy to set up. overall great product and the price isn’t that bad in the long run. i bought this cause after i picked up a few hand warmers one which only worked one time because the platinum pad was very thin and kind of fell apart. after i put some of this in the warmer it worked really well, so well i just put it in the other two the same way. i will say they do burn hotter.....hot enough where you cant really hold them unless they are in the bags. im sure i can tweak the amount to get it more close to the stock temp but i dont mind the extra heat.

Bought this to "beef up" my Zippo hand warmers, it really works! These things are hot as all hell now! The bag is small, more than enough for my needs, but if you're buying it for an actual fire place, you will want to buy more than just one.

This platinum doped mineral wool is the same material as what is found in catalytic hand warmers. I bought this as a cheaper and more effective alternative to the flimsy catalytic wafers found in the burners provided by Zippo. Originally I had three zippo catalytic wafers stacked in the burners on my hand warmers, but I couldn’t justify the cost to do that again when I bought more sets of hand warmers, so I did some research and found these “platinum embers” to use in the burner instead. You just take the retention clip out of the burner, remove the old wafer, and pack in a piece or two of this material and put the retention clip back in and pop the burner on the hand warmer. Works like a charm.
