This keyboard does NOT have backlit keys even though the description says it does. I bought this as a replacement to the original I got when I purchased a new SP9 for the very reason that the original keypad did not have backlit keys. Turns out this is the same keyboard. The keyboard is a necessary addition to the Surface Pro as I use the Pro for presentations at remote sites. At home, I use a regular keyboard and mouse. I do that because the keyboard does not have a numerical pad which I use regularly.

A must have for the surface pro + pen. If you don't plan on using the pen I would recommend going with a cheaper option. However, if you have the pen you will want this. The pen fits perfectly and charges instantly. I've never had an issue and don't foresee ever having one with this keyboard.
