  • Works just fine on OpenBSD
Color: TTC Red Style: TTC Pattern: Keyboard
Wanted a basic mechanical keyboard that is relatively quiet and will work with a Unix based OS without needing a virtual machine or dual booting to control it. This does *exactly* that. I couldn't be happier. The only real Fn+F# mappings are Fn+F1,F2 & F12 for lighting. Most FN keys can be programmed up on your own in X or Wayland or whatever, which is what I already have. XF86 references exist for Fn+F4,F6-F11. Fn+F3, F5 do not appear to have mappings in the driver. This is probably a driver update issue either with X or OpenBSD, and is in no way a show stopper. Hardware itself is very sturdy. The TTC Red switches were reviewed as being the quietest option. I still feel those switches are a little clackier than I expected, but this is probably to be expected with an aluminum body. The keys have perfect key travel and are very light touch, which is what I really want. Keycap printing is very clear. Illumination levels work just fine. The USB cable is permanently attached, USBA, pliable, and thick- all of which I consider good qualities for a keyboard I'll be keeping and repairing. Key layout is also very comfortable and matches well with my "typist" typing style; not having to re-map any keypresses into my muscle memory. Typing on this keyboard is *much* faster than on my old $35 "thin" membrane keyboard, so I'm pretty happy overall. Definitely worth the minimal investment for probably at least a decade of use. ... show more

  • Quality construction
Color: TTC Brown Style: TTC Pattern: Keyboard
I have now been using this keyboard for a little over 1 week. So far so good. My previous keyboard was a HyperX Alloy Elite with blue switches so this keyboard is a bit of a downgrade. Even though this is a full-size keyboard. it takes up less space on my desk compared to my old one which is a plus. The TTC browns have been a pleasure to use although I did have to get used to them as I was coming from a Cherry MX Blue switch. The keys have a high actuation point so there is a faster responsiveness than what I had previously. The keys also feel much lighter. When I first received the keyboard, I had to double-check the packaging to make sure I didn't get send a red switch because at first it was very difficult to feel the tactile feedback. However, after typing on the keyboard for a while I can feel it just fine. Overall pros and cons: Pros: 1. Compact but full-size 2. No fancy bells and whistles 3. Backlighting is fantastic 4. Very sturdy with quality construction and materials 5. Keys are lightweight with a nice feel to them. Reminds me of the Dell keyboards so many of us used back around 2000-2010 era. The design itself is reminicent. Cons: 1. Wish it came with a wrist wrest - I can't be too upset given the price point but I will definitely need a wrist wrest sooner than later 2. This keyboard might be better for gaming than typing (it is marketed as a gaming keyboard) but for those of you who are strictly typists and not doing any gaming, you might look for a slightly heavier brown switch or look towards to TTC Blue switch model. 3. Even though these are TTC Browns there is still a small, subtle, audible click while typing which I find to be fantastic. To me personally, it's a great balance that I wasn't expecting. Just forwarning. 4. The keyboard doesn't have an onboard memory. If you take the keyboard from one computer to the next, it will not remember the lighting settings. It is rather easy to change the lighting, as all you need to do is hold FN & select F12. Takes about 5 seconds. ... show more

  • The best feeling keyboard I've owned.
Color: TTC Brown Style: TTC Pattern: Keyboard
Satisfyingly clicky, but not loud enough to wake up the person sleeping in the next room. The keyboard is short on features, if you're the type who wants G-keys and fancy shmancy individually colored LED's and all that jazz, but what it lacks in gaudy gamer grease it makes up for by being perfect for what it is. It does have media control keys readily accessible with FN-F# key combinations, but the only thing I wish it did have that it doesn't are a few dedicated media control buttons above the numpad. Not enough of a complaint to sour me on the keyboard, though, I'm extremely happy with it. The backlight is functional and good looking, the aluminum base has enough weight that it doesn't slide around when you're using it, and the tactile feel of the keys is absolutely perfect. For me, personally, this is as close to perfect as any keyboard I've ever owned, and it does it without breaking the bank. ... show more
