I originally purchased this mouse at major retailer about 2 years ag, primarily because it collapses flat - making it portable and much easier to pack, it works on virtually any surface, and because it is wireless (I hate those pesky wires). the mouse is highly responsive, easy to set up and feels nice under my hand. I never had any problems with it. the transceiver conveniently magnetizes to the underside of the mouse if you need to remove it from your pc. so one fine day, I lost the transceiver. I usually keep it attached to the pc, but I needed the usb port. most of my usb connected equipment will not work on a usb hub and I have not got the time to figure it all out properly, so I just removed the transceiver and stuck it to the mouse. the next thing you know, the transceiver is gone and a search around the house was futile. the next thing to do was a search on the web - which revealed that it is a DEDICATED transceiver and it is not possible to buy just that part. I was mad. a replacement mouse is about 60 dollars at full price. i am not a full price kind of gal. things changed and made me hopeful when I found a replacement here at amazon, i liked that. I like to be frugal. I did not want to break the bank purchasing something that Microsoft should have easily available at a discount.. I chose a particular seller because they had a high rating and their item was the least expensive--being listed as used. used is good as long as it works and is not sticky from snacks gone by. (I want to express how important it is to review your seller and award a high rating if they deserve it! it makes it easier for shoppers to see who they are dealing with.) upon testing the new mouse (it was a newer manufacture than my original) I found it to be in perfect working order. I was pleased. the price was less than half the original smrp and the only reason was that the box was opened. all packaging was original, the included batteries had not even been opened. it was indeed genuine Microsoft. I know, I can tell these things. so, good for me, and good for the seller because he/she got another excellent McRating for politeness and promptness! McYay! just for the heck of it I tried the OLD mouse with the NEW transceiver. alas, it did not work. the old mouse will be useful for some parts if I accidentally step on the new mouse and crush it like I did my new glasses (well, I couldn't SEE them, I wasn't wearing my glasses). I also own a Logitech usb unified remote touchpad and keyboard. I switch off between mice now and then for various reasons, and Logitech has the right idea. even though the touchpad and the keyboard came with their own little transceivers, I only need one transceiver to successfully use BOTH the keyboard and the mouse. Logitech seems to realize that although you can hook up 256 million usb items to your pc, most laptops and pcs have a limited number of usb ports. hubs may work or may not work. I need simplicity with "it will work" without having to go to Taiwan to replace the integral part that has no other use. now if Microsoft could please do something about that 'dedicated transceiver' thing (um, do they know about Bluetooth?) then that would make this mouse better than perfect. all that being said, and since i was able to get what i needed from amazon, my final thought is this: my son has a very specialized gaming mouse he paid a lot for. it is very precise. Solid mouse, perfect for travel
I got this mouse a while back for work about a year ago and have been using it ever since. Recently bought this as a gift for my dad as well because of how much I like it. Previously I was using a Logitech Anywhere Mouse (which I've replaced twice), both times the mouse was damaged because of either a drop or some sort of impact whie carrying (despite being in the protective case). I really love that mouse, but turns out I actually like this one even more. Summary: + Slick design with cool snap on/off feature and force feedback scroll + Compact; slim body, lightweight, but good overall size for your hand; receiver is very small + Very accurate, works on most surfaces, great for travel. - No forward / back buttons Review: I travel a lot for work and rarely sit at an actual desk. This mouse is perfect for that but really is great for anyone who wants a mouse to take with them to a coffee shop, on a plane, or just when they move to their living room. It's really compact, slips easily into a pocket or pouch in your bag. Flip it open and it's instantly on and the receiver is super small (I just leave it in all the time). One nice feature is that if you take the receiver out, there's a magnetic hold on the mouse that's super strong, never lost it. Accuracy is excellent, can use on pretty much any surface and it will work well which lends itself to mobile use. The scroll wheel works extremely well, and the force feedback is awesome -- provides great feedback on how fast or far you're scrolling, and is a cool feature in general. I'm honestly surprised that Microsoft hasn't licensed it or put it in more products because it really is cool and useful. Battery life in this guy is above average, i use this daily but only replace batteries maybe 2-3 times per year. My only negative is that this guy doesn't have forward/back buttons which initially i really missed. But after a while I got used to, and apparently not many people use them as much as i thought. Also, i advise against ever looking at the laser, pretty powerful and not super nice on the eyes. Switching from the Logitech Anywhere Mouse was a transition at first. I had to play with the settings and performance quite a bit to get it where I wanted to. Now that I've had time to use this and fully compare to the Logitech, I have to say this is a better mouse IMO. It's more compact and is super sturdy, withstands falls and impacts. The Logitech AM worked a little better on glass / really tricky surfaces. But (surprisingly), the software for this mouse is really lightweight because it uses the standard interface for windows, compared to Logitech's hefty UI which uses more memory. I've been extremely happy with this mouse. If you're in the market for a mobile mouse that you can toss in your bag and take anywhere I highly recommend it. Although I don't have a Win8 tablet, if you do this would no doubt be the perfect accompaniment. ... show more

Useable, Beautiful, Moveable
This is a great mouse. Touch Scroll: The touch scrolling is unbelievably satisfying. The scroll bar has a vibrator inside, so that when you scroll it gives the feedback of a normal scroll wheel. This can be configured to be on/off and even quiet/loud using Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Center. Flicking the scroll is super cool as the scroll vibrator continues to vibrate in a slowing down fashion after you release the mouse. It feels and sounds great while scrolling through large files and websites is a breeze. Arc: I hate having to awkwardly flip normal mice over and switch it off to save battery. This arc design is super cool to simply push down into the table to turn off. When it snaps into its straight position, it turns off. Configuration: Having Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Center is crucial to fully. The buttons, scroll sensitivity and speed, vibration, and center click can all be configured to your preferences. The flick can also be turned off, but it is so cool no one in their right mind would do that. Design: The mouse looks great, and I impress all my friends with its sweet design. The rubbery back end gives it a nice grip while feeling cool in your hand. Because the mouse is so light, this grip is necessary. The mouse only makes contact with the surface in two places: front and back. This is a huge plus. This enables the mouse to glide seamlessly over any surface. I have tried a number, and they all work well. Some work better than others, but most work way better than they do using a traditional mouse. Transport: This mouse is super light and super flat. Some complain about the storage of the receiver, but for me, this is absolutely awesome. I don't loose it because I pay attention when I carry this thing around. If you have a habit of loosing things, this might be bad for you; but then you will loose anything else you are going to buy to so... I hate how every mouse on the market (except the Microsoft Touch Mouse, which is also on my desk) stores the receiver inside the mouse. You have to open it every time you want to transport it or you loose the receiver. Now you simply throw it at the pick (it will stick) and you are good to go. The magnet it SUPER strong. You have to work at getting it off the back. I would definitely buy this again, and will consider it as a great gift item in the future. Hope that helps! ... show more

Almost There, But Not Quite
This an early review given the animosity I sense on some of the reviews already posted. I use an iPhone, have and iPad but also love my windows gaming PC and my HP ultrabook. So I guess I can at least try to be less anti-Microsoft and less pro-Microsoft than some. The mouse may fail after more use but at that time I’ll post an edit, if needed. On the looks, this mouse is gorgeous; MS did a big effort and succeeded on creating a product design award worthy product. It has nothing to envy to Apple, Nest or other companies praised for its industrial design excellence. So yes, it will look very good on your desk and yes, it is unique and beautiful and ingenious (bend to on/off? Who thought about this before?) . Materials, even if mostly plastic and rubber are of very good quality, construction is sturdy and it looks and fell solid, not cheap at all. Some may consider it a bit light for a mouse (It is very light), some people like the control that weight gives on scrolling –like for example I will never use this mouse as a gaming or precision work mouse- and some others like me in a way will find a bit on the small side but I think it is a matter of getting accustomed to it, once you use it for a while your brain adapts to these two shortcomings This brings me to the ergonomics and functionality. It DOES take some time to adapt to the unique form factor , as said above it runs on the small side and having a hole under the mouse –it is basically an arch- does feel awkward, to the point of initial rejection. But when the shock of handling its unusual shape is gone and you use it for a while, then it feels great to slip the last two fingers under the arch on a rested manner while the palm sits on top of the arch, I found me doing this unconsciously, it comes natural. Functionally, tracking technology is very good but you have to keep in mind the light weight factor mentioned before, this can take away some precision. The sensors that replace the middle mouse buttons are great, it takes some time to know intuitively without looking at the mouse where to hit the sensors to get a particular move (like for example page up or page down), but it is something you will learn fast. I find the hearing cues coming from the mouse when scrolling or using the middle sensor very useful, it helps to know what are you doing or trying to do without looking at the mouse. Overall is very precise for regular desktop work, and middle sensors will help you on your daily interactions. I particularly like very much the double tapping on web links to open a new tab, no more right-click scrolling, choose. I only have two complains which knocks off one star; or make it three complains but one may just be a matter of taste. First, buttons are too hard to click, this should be a gentle push of the finger, and not a firm push as it is now. I’m hoping this will get better with use, but other mice are already good on this regard when taken out of the box. This, combined with the lightness of the mouse, is the biggest functional shortcoming of the mouse in my opinion. Second, I would have used light metal like anodized aluminum or even Gorilla Glass for the middle sensors; making them from cheap plastic –not even acrylic- is a missed opportunity to elevate this product to a new level without adding too much cost Finally, the material on the rubberized arch section picks-up lint, dirt and grease easily, and sticks to it, not easy to remove, making the mouse look worn-out and filthy . Again, this is a matter of personal taste but MS should have invested more time on finding a more suitable material for this section ... show more

This mouse is outstanding. USB dongle conveniently stores with the mouse via magnetic attraction - you simply place on the bottom of the mouse and it stays there - pretty strong magnet. I store it in a pocket of my work backpack and I haven't had a problem with it falling off yet. The mouse stores "straight" - it is flexible in the middle and can be pressed flat, which turns it off, conserving battery life. When you are ready to use it, you simply put the USB dongle into a USB port on your computer and bend the mouse into a normal curved mouse shape - the mouse turns on and you're working - it connects in a second. The strip in the middle is a "scroll wheel" but has no moving parts. You can click it and like a normal mouse it will give you the up/down icon on your screen and you can scroll by moving the mouse slightly above and below the icon, or instead you can scroll by rubbing your finger up or down on the strip (without clicking it - no icon). I really like this mouse and highly recommend it. I haven't owned it long enough to know battery life, but it has been running fairly regularly on the same battery for about 6 weeks now. Admittedly, I don't use the mouse as regularly as an office based employee as I have a field based job. For this reason, I do turn the mouse on and off more frequently than average and it seems to be holding up well. Lately I have been leaving the dongle in the USB port instead of removing it when I replace my laptop in my bag (it is tiny and doesn't get hung up on anything in my bag) and that has worked out well, too. ... show more

it's pretty much an extension of my hand
Okay, so here's the deal: I use a mouse at least 9 hours a day, and have done so for the last 25-ish years. By now, it's pretty much an extension of my hand. Add to this the fact that I'm an avid Apple user (really love my magic mouse!) and you can see what kind of predicament I was in when my company handed me a PC laptop and expected me to use it with the $5 crappy mouse it came with. It was pure torture -- until I discovered the Arc mouse. This thing is magical. It fits my hand perfectly, and is so easy and intuitive to use. The mouse has an incredibly slick and stylish profile (when was the last time YOU got compliments on your mouse? It happens to me all the time!) and is super easy on the battery consumption. I don't keep exact track, but thinking back, I'll bet I don't even replace the batteries in this thing every other month. It folds flat and slips in the pocket of my laptop bag (which is incredibly convenient), and connects to my computer every time without fail. The wireless dongle is so tiny that I leave it in the port all the time, and it STAYS -- even when my laptop is getting jostled around in my backpack. There is no downside to this beautiful piece of equipment. I have a team of people that I work with, and I ordered one for each of them for Christmas last year. And when someone new joins our team, I traditionally gift them with an Arc mouse on their first day so that they'll start their new role with good equipment. Has some redeeming qualities, but I want to beat it to a pulp. Not worth a star!
As a consumer I rely mainly on Amazon reviews prior to making any purchase either online or at a brick & mortar location. I don't write many, but this one is necessary. The Microsoft RVF-00052 Arc Touch Mouse (Black) is a sleek design, to be sure. When extended to the 'off' position it is very slim and extremely easy to stow in the laptop bag. It has a very small USB connector, enabling me to leave it plugged in when stored if necessary - or if I'd rather not, the connector sticks to the underside of the mouse magnetically. The mouse has no side buttons, which is fine for me as I'm more a keyboard shortcut user anyway - but for those who like to set forward/back/open/etc. functions with side buttons, this could be important. Sounds and looks like a pretty good mouse, right? I just read another review that said something about throwing it at a wall, and I 100% wholeheartedly could not agree more. The touch pad scroll wheel is RIDICULOUSLY BAD, and I literally want to stomp the mouse into little pieces - yes, I'm a keyboard shortcut user, but the ONE THING I use on a mouse besides left/right click - the scroll funtion - DOESN'T WORK AT ALL 90% of the time, and when it does scroll, I get maybe one or two page's worth of scrolling before it thinks that I don't need it anymore. No more haptic feedback, just absolute silence and no movement on the page unless I manually move the cursor over to the scroll bar and drag it down myself. That wastes more time than I can even measure, and at this price point is absolutely appalling to me that this product even exists. The reason I purchased this particular mouse is that I had the predecessor - the red Arc mouse with a physical scroll wheel - and absolutely adored it. It fit my hand perfectly, worked even better, folded into a nice compact shape for traveling, and never had any technical problems (and it did have one side button that I never used). Needs more work
I'm a writer, so I'm using a mouse almost constantly, switching between the keyboard and the mouse quickly and frequently. Well-designed products are important to me. I was TRYING to like the Apple Magic Mouse; its simple elegant design and click/swipe capability made it, "on paper," the perfect mouse. But every time I reached to use it, I would inadvertently touch/tap the surface and the screen would "jump" (up/down/left/right). And I'd have to take time to get the screen back to where I was. Then I discovered the Arc Touch, and I was immediately impressed. I like the shape and found myself naturally curling my fingers under the mouse. Very ergonomic. Very comfortable. I liked that you can fold it flat to turn it off, which also makes it great for travel. BUT… it has essentially the same problem as the Magic. When I reached for it, I inadvertently tapped the upper or lower scroll "tabs," shooting me /updown a screen. So then I'd have to scroll back up to where I was. Worse, when I tried to INTENTIONALLY jump from screen to screen -- vs. slowly scroll up/down -- I could not always duplicate the effect. I'd wind up having to give up and just scroll a little at a time or give the tabs I fast swipe and scroll all the way through a document and then go back up. (The tabs have this "momentum" type feature that enables you to quickly get to the top or bottom of a document.) What's more, even though it feels very familiar to drag your index finger across the two scroll tabs -- and feel the sensation of a click wheel -- occasionally the scrolling didn't work at all. I'd have to flatten (i.e., turn off) the mouse and then, in effect, restart it to regain the scrolling functionality. Further, with a traditional scroll-wheel mouse (or the Magic Mouse), you can scroll left and right. Not with the Arc. One final point, the Arc's "feet" weren't as smooth as I would have expected. It always took me a bit more effort than expected to get the cursor exactly where I wanted it. So I give Microsoft high marks for the design concept, but the execution leaves something lacking. And for whatever it's worth, I eventually resorted to a traditional mouse -- the Sculpt Mobile -- and while its design might be traditional/boring, it's one of the best mouses I've used in terms of functionality. ... show more
