The top part is totally busted. the white base of the eyepiece basically fell off right after unboxing. Didnt get to use any of the slides or accessories included. Not worth $100!

Very nice microscope that comes with a full array of implements to assist you. Not sure what to say, it is a fantastic instrument that I enjoy using to look at silly stuff just because I am curious as 5 cats. This would be a great gift for any grade or high school kid who is curious and eager to look and see for themselves.

Just so you know my background, I am very much a newbie at this and though I am college educated, I have not taken a science class since high school. That being said whereas the last time I remember seeing and using a microscope like this was in my 10th grade science class, I remember thinking it was awesome but also feeling disappointed and bored that we were constrained to looking at a few select items our teacher picked out for us and filling out boring worksheets about it. Whereas now, I can look at whatever I want, and I am so glad I got this! Packaging/Presentation: The microscope kit came well protected in a pretty nice case, and includes the microscope, power cord and outlet connector, an attachment for your phone so you can take photos or video with that, two different eyepieces (10x and 16x), a small box of miscellaneous items you may need: slides, a petri dish, cover glass, tweezers, q-tips, a small cleaning cloth, and a very small screwdriver, etc; an instruction booklet, eyepiece cover, and 5 small biological specimen samples to look at (a plant stem, an ant, feather, a honeybees leg, and a frogs blood smear). Note: Picture of microscope in case is after me using it once, it looked a little nicer upon first opening it. Setup: It is pretty easy to setup, as the microscope is already assembled for the most part. I simply plugged the microscope in, put one of the included specimens under the lens, turned on the under-sample power/light with the switch on the side (there is also an overhead LED option), added an eyepiece (there are two different eyepiece attachments included), adjusted the focus with the knobs on the side of the microscope until my view was clear, and I was ready to start exploring! Use: Other than a minor frustration in reading the instruction manual which I didn't find especially helpful and reads more like a short novel than an instruction manual, and figuring out how to adjust the focus on the microscope (turning the knob on the side), I found this thing easy and awesome to use! I immediately popped in the included ant specimen to test it out. The lenses have 3 options (4X, 10X, 40X) - I have included pictures I took with my phone of the ant specimen at 10x and 40x. The microscope also has two light options (selected on the power button on the side) - the overhead LED, and the under-sample light. I suppose the best option probably varies on whatever you're studying, but during my use I found the under-sample light to be more useful and made my view better than the overhead did, which makes sense. You can also choose between a few different colors under the sample such as clear (default), red, yellow, and blue which I thought was kind of neat at I thought some colors did enhance my view of what I was looking at. Overall, I really enjoyed this microscope! Other than a somewhat generic/unhelpful instruction manual, I was able to figure out how to use this in just a few minutes even without the manual and it met or exceeded any expectation that I had for it. The included case makes storing it easy and compact, which adds a nice little touch. I am not an expert on the microscope market but I believe this is a nice value for the money and I am absolutely glad that I got it. I would recommend it to any beginner/novice adult or as a gift for a child interested in science.

For all the features in this kit, it's an amazing deal. Obviously it's not a laboratory quality piece of science gear. But it's great for home projects, research or curiosities. The organization bag and foam insert has more slots for peripherals. Definitely a great deal.

I loved it! This compound microscope is very much like the one I learned biology off of in college. I've had lots of fun showing my nephew how to work it (I got it for him for his birthday). We were able to see the inside of a small worm, and we even trapped a small spider alive under the cover plate on the slide. We could see it's eyes and the hair on the leg before setting it free. One day, I hope to get myself one of these microscopes so I can look at the tiny parts of creation. 100% recommend.
