I can hardly believe how perfect this is!!the yellow part is silicone I think (not hard plastic as I was envisioning), it’s so easy to clean and easy to use and makes me want to zest instead of just forgetting about it because I’m picturing myself cutting my hand on a grater or having to clean out the fibers of fruit skin. I love this zester like 99%. It's easy to use, the zest comes out perfect without digging too deep into the pith, and the little cup inside means I don't have to find some dish or cutting board to hold the little pile of zest while I work on the rest of my recipe. Perfect for the uses I need. The 1% shy... One detail about cleaning makes me a little nervous. The base has a couple of small vent-like holes at the bottom, and I haven't seen any way to open up the plastic to thoroughly examine, clean, or dry the inside. This means I can't let it submerge or soak, and I'm even hesitant to rinse the handle side with these holes facing upward. Even if I do clean it thoroughly and use only fresh soapy water, I don't feel comfortable with how well the interior can drain and dry while it sits because the holes are so small. This void doesn't contact food directly, but I still like to keep even non-contact surfaces clean in my kitchen.

I love how easily I can now make a large amount of zest, quickly. I have dexterity problems due to multiple sclerosis, and this zester makes it easy to zest my lemons and limes, collects my zest for easy use, and eliminates my fears of accidentally zesting my fingers. I strongly recommend this product!

Update: Okay, I rated this as low as possible the first time because its blades came out of the silicon after 32 lemons were zested all at once. But there isn't any other zester that worked as well for me with my small hands and huge need to zest a lot of lemons. When I started baking lemon goodies to sell at our produce stand, I bought another. It even zests frozen lemons! I don't expect it will last forever, but this one has held up much better. I realize now that embedding the blades in the silicon is what makes it flexible enough to follow the surface of the lemon and do such a great job of zesting. So, I've decided that if I have to buy a new one every now and then, it's worth it. Old Review: I loved this from the time I first used it. Very simple, captures all of this lovely, stringy zest without any of the white pith, just made zesting sooooo easy. I thought I had found the kitchen "goose" that would lay golden eggs repeatedly. However, I decided to zest all of this season's leftover lemons and freeze the zest. Made it through about 30 lemons when one of the silicon tabs that hold the blade in place broke completely off. The rest of the blade is no longer stable enough to use, although I tried, which only resulted in breaking off another piece of silicon. Great idea, poor execution. A waste of money...

I'm so glad I found this citrus zester...it is the best! I never liked grating citrus peel because it was hard to grate and then it stuck to the planer that i used, making it difficult to use and clean off. This little gadget is a breeze to use, capturing all the zest inside...just perfect. Lift the grater off from one of the rubber sides and there it is! I will never use any other zester again. Buy it...you won't be disappointed!
