This tool is normally used to grate citrus for perfect lemon, lime, and orange zests or to create pillowy mounds of Parmesan cheese. Microplane Premium Classic Zester Graters A versatile must-have tool for the kitchen! This tool is normally used to grate citrus for perfect lemon, lime, and orange zests or to create pillowy mounds of parmesan cheese. However, it is also a great tool for grating spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and even chilies into fresh ground powders. If your dish requires fresh grated ginger or garlic, this tool will do that job as well. Customers have let us know that they even use this tool to remove burnt edges from cookies and bread. What will you use it for? What is the difference between Original Classic and Premium Classic? The Premium Classic Zester Grater by Microplane provides a soft touch handle, instead of hard plastic. In addition this line provides a choice of handle colors. You can expect the same grating or zesting experience with either tool. Why is Sharper Better? Food is grated or zested without ripping or tearing which improves the look of the final dish Food is grated or zested without bruising which improves flavor and aroma Less pressure is required while grating - making the task faster and more efficient What makes Microplane so sharp? Microplane Blade Enlarged 50x View larger Do Chef's use Microplane? The Microplane is the standard for sharp, efficient grating and zesting in both home and professional kitchens - just ask any chef if they use a Microplane! Dining out anywhere will usually lead to a Microplane sighting. Photo-etching and surgical grade stainless steel Microplane began using this signature technology in the 1990's. Most tools use stamped or cut metal. Photo-etching creates a much finer point, which means your Microplane digs in and performs better. For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. --Jill Lightner

  • Excellent Product

I've always wanted a chef's restaurant quality micro plane, and this is it. The metal is high quality, the handle is large, it has a hole for hanging and made with solid plastic. It's worked for me for years and is an excellent price. I grate zest, cinnamon, nutmeg and spices with ease.

  • Is this a PERFECT zester?
Number of Items: 1
I picked up the Microplane version of the 4-sided box grater years ago, & I’ve wanted one of these ‘detail-oriented’ versions for a while. Ordered it on impulse filling up a $25 It’s strong, sturdy, & well-made, it’s easy to handle, & it zests perfectly If it has a flaw, it is that I expected slightly more ‘tooth’. Examining the plane of the grater closely, I can see that the teeth are set just shy of (slightly below) that plane. This set makes it a perfect zester, & I’ll bet it’s terrific if you want nutmeg or cinnamon & fluffy Parmesan, but I can’t use this as a grater except for more-or-less special cases I’ve since ordered a top-rated/top-selling German strip-grater like the Microplane, & compared the two vs a thumb-sized piece of ginger (as one has a ‘stand’, I used each handheld). Beginning with the Microplane, I was unable to accumulate any grated ginger; the other grater grated the entire thing rather quickly…so I won’t rely on the Microplane for vegetables, but that’s *my* use-case The Microplane’s perfection is effortless - all the zest, no pith, no skill, right out of the box, first stroke. Practice can only improve results. Did I mention it handles beautifully? It’s well worth keeping ... show more

  • Best Zester ever!
Number of Items: 1
This device really works! It is well-designed so you do not scrape your fingers or knuckles across the grater. Additionally, it makes it easy to grate off all the zest you want too when it comes to citrus. I’d definitely get this again; easy to use, easy to clean, and it’s actually fun to use!

  • A Great Grater
Number of Items: 1
Fulfilling my lifetime ambition of reviewing once of these and using that title. This microplane grates really well, used it for Pecorino cheese and it reduces it to delicate snowflakes that could almost melt. As this version doubles as a zester, you're not going to get a dust like texture, so if that's what you're after maybe look at some of the others in their range. This is a very proficient kitchen all-rounder. My only criticism is that the handle feels a bit cheap. I've used it a couple of times and on one occasion it accidentally slipped and I parted ways with a chunk of my knuckle which ended up in my cacio e pepe, giving it a gamey after taste. Now this may well have been my own incompetence and nothing to do with the grater itself, but........where was I going with this? Oh yeah, the handle feels a bit cheap, other than that, great grater. NOTE: Portion of knuckle shown in image is no longer included. ... show more

As good as the ones I bought 10 years ago that finally gave out. The plastic case is not as good - pretty flimsy really, but the grater is still great.
