Great containers! The mesh is fine enough that smaller seeds don't fall through. These are a perfect size for succession planting, so that we can have sprouts/microgreens often. The bottoms and mesh insert pieces are sturdy, and the tops are nicely high domed. The round inserts to allow venting snap into place (on the domes) well. I’m very pleased with these trays. I’m fairly new to growing microgreens, but these sturdy trays made it easy to grow wheatgrass in my kitchen window for my cat (which she totally ignored). I used about a tablespoon or so of soaked seeds in each tray, but I could have used more so the sprouts were thicker. I was afraid of overdoing it since some seem to have had a problem with mold. As it was, I didn’t have any trouble at all, which makes me wonder if some of the “mold” people are seeing is actually just the root “fuzz” that is to perfectly normal and to be expected, not actually mold at all. The seed trays held the seeds and let the water and roots through, and I like that the trays come with lids that have adjustable air vents on top to help ensure good ventilation. If I were to buy them again, I would probably buy the clear bottoms so I could see the roots and water level more easily, but I’m happy with the ones I have and look forward to growing other kinds of microgreens for myself. ... show more

This is a cute little 'hydroponic' growing setup. I started radish & broccoli seeds about 5 days ago and they are growing very well. The bottom trays appear to be fairly sturdy as well as colorful - however the top plastic piece is not as strong. The seeds do NOT come with the kit. I choose these types of seeds because the germination rate is fairly quick - I could see within 24 hours they were sprouting. I thought this might be a good way to grow some greens while camping - it worked out pretty well. Please remember to soak your seeds for 8 hours (8-12 based on directions) before placing in this growing tray. ... show more

I bought these growing trays about 5 months ago and haven't stopped using them. I initially bought 1 of those mason jar growers, but I had mold issues that I couldn't solve. I saw these containers, which are small, and per the other reviews, WILL hold tiny seeds such as broccoli. I'm the only one eating the sprouts in my family. I put a small handful in my scrambled eggs every morning. I really don't think this set will service more than 2 people. You will need something larger. I have discovered that I really need to not allow any of the containers to go unused or I may end up without sprouts for my breakfast. Here's an example showing 4 different growing stages. When it's time to eat them, I simply cut them straight out of the planter. I have found that to prevent mold, I only use the clear dome topper for no more than a day or 2 once I start to sprout the seeds. I soak 1 tbsp of seeds overnight. The next day, I dump them on to the tray and fill the container with water, making sure that I am spreading the seeds evenly to help them all sprout. I cover it with the dome. The seeds typically sprout pretty well within 24 hours & then I move the container over to join the rest of the containers on the breakfast bar which is about 6 feet away from our sunny, sliding glass doors. I do not use the dome. This is all the sun they need. They grow quickly. I change out the water once per day. This is a super easy project to maintain and it saves money. I was really nervous to make this purchase because I was comparing it to so many others, but this was the absolute best one I could have chosen. It Is the perfect size for my family of four and gave me exactly the amount of pots needed for the amount of greens I wanted to plant. Rooting happened in only 24-48 hours.
