  • A good return to form for Metroid Prime.
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
I was really excited for this finally to be released. It's been a while since I had played MP3, so there was a slight learning curve to get back into the swing of things. As of this writing I am about 10 hours into the game. Pros, Cons, and things to note: 1. This game is absolutely gorgeous. The graphics are sharp, crisp, and well polished. I have the normal Switch version and I am surprised how good it looks for just 1080p. I would personally play this game docked so you can appreciate the gameplay and details put into it. I made to be an experience rather than a handheld game. 2. I personally use a Pro controller to play (third party) since I am not a fan of motion control gimmicks. The default button mapping is a little strange. I had to change up a lot of them. Luckily, you can pretty much remap every button. There are a lot of different modes to switch through, so it may take some time to commit it all to muscle memory. 3. Samus, I swear, moves like she is just taking a casual stroll. During boss fights and horde-style battles it feels like you are hardly dodging out of the way. She feels sluggish. The enemies move much faster than you do. 4. The additional characters aren't as bad as you would think. Sure, the first guy has "comic relief" vibes, but he doesn't stick with you long. It is kind of a welcomed addition to see other humans in the game play along with you. 5. Like the other MP games, it is a scan fest. If you want 100%, the first thing you do after walking into a new area is scan...and scan...and scan. Scan everything. If it moved, scan it. If it changed states, scan it. If it is the same thing but in a different room, scan it. Elevator went up, down, and back up? Scan it each time. It's tedious and slows the game down. 6. So far, the game has been very fair difficulty-wise. On normal I haven't had too much trouble, except for one part in the Ice area... Thank God for Tokabi. But enemies can do a lot of damage. Like 40 or 50 points at times with each hit. Boxes are plentiful though to replenish. 7. I have yet to run into any really well hidden secret areas, and I explore a lot. It feels pretty linear on where you are allowed to go and getting more missiles/ammo looks to be mostly backtracking once you get the upgrade to retrieve them. 8. The Vi-O-La bike is a lot cooler than it looked in previews. Usually adding vehicles to games like this is super tacky, but I like this one. Since this game went to "hub world" style gameplay, you need it to get around. 9. Story-wise, I haven't paid much attention, but you seem to be retrieving artifacts via teleporter keys. It's on par with the previous titles. So, it's decent. Overall, for a Switch 1 game, it looks far better than any release game was. Definitely worth a play if you enjoyed the previous MP games. Now all we need is a Super Metroid Prime SNES remake. ... show more

  • Great prime deal game!
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
I’ve been watching the gameplay while I’ve been going through clothes and it looks really pretty for a switch game! I think if you have a Switch, I would definitely say you should play this. It’s probably one of the best looking games I’ve seen on a big screen TV for the Nintendo switch one.

  • Good but a bit generic
Platform: Nintendo Switch Edition: Game only
It's pretty good but certainly not as good as Metroid Prime 1 and 2. The game advertised the motorcycle as a new feature, but it's very underutilized. There's two "boss" fights that use it, but it's very lackluster and could have done so much more. They could have used it on track like arenas or used for trials or races or something, but instead it's used to drive across a desert. Nintendo locked motorcycle skins and music in desert behind amiibos. The other Metroid amiibos only let you hear sounds from the game. The psychic abilities don't have any original feel like the light and dark abilities from Prime 2. Instead it's just regular morphball, grapple beam, and scanning with a purple filter. Don't expect a lot of suits either like the other games. Mostly just the one for most the game. Hard mode is locked until you beat the game. It took about 17-18 hours to 100 percent my first playthrough. Tips: - Wait until the final mission to worry about the green crystals. More pop up after each mission. And if your missing green crystals, double check shrines and the area after the first boss. - It's a Metroid game so of course there's back tracking to collect every upgrade, so definitely use the markers to place important marks on your map. Especially when you come across a bot that requires electricity. Use a specific marker. It will help an save a lot of time. - Without trying to spoil anything, there is not a special ending you don't hit the final prompt. It just says mission failed and makes you redo the the boss fight. I made that mistake. Overall, it's a fun enough game. I've been a Metroid fan science the first game. This certainly isn't the best one, but I'm glad we got another Prime game. You can definitely feel that it's kind of generic though. The dialogue is just kind of bland and unoriginal and honestly I think it would have been better without the side characters. I know I'm coming across as hating the game, but I'm being objective when looking at the whole series. If you never played any Metroid game, then this one is pretty good. If you've played them all and are hoping for a better game than the previous ones, you'll be a bit disappointed. I think what hurt it too was releasing Metroid Prime remake to remind us how amazing the early games were. And then you had Dread which was pretty awesome going back to a side scrolling style while utilizing the 3D for awesome boss fights. I'd give it a 3 out 5 but I'm biased since I love Metroid games, so 4 out 5. ... show more
