My daughter recommended this dog food to me and my wife (her mom). It has no fillers or bad ingredients and my dog loves the freeze dried raw meat that it has in it. I would not feed my dog anything else.

I believe in rotating our dog's food every few months for variety sake and balanced nutrition. It seems to keep them happy and excited about eating. I currently alternate between Wellness Core and Merrick Backcountry Raw. Both brands have an excellent reputation, so I feel good about the quality I am providing, and our dogs like both, but there appears to be a little more excitement when the Merrick bag opens. Maybe it is the raw nuggets, not sure, but they love it, so that is the main thing. I rated this 5 stars because, overall, it is an outstanding product and we have been very pleased. That doesn't mean there aren't a few things to be aware of before purchasing. First off, the raw nuggets are not dispersed well in the bag. You will find them grouped in areas, so it is best to stir the food up a little as you are scooping it out. It's easy and seems to ensure you get a few raw nuggets in most if not all feedings. Secondly, the food is expensive, and the largest bag is only 20lbs versus 24lbs to 30lbs of other brands. I am good with paying for quality, but if I had a wish, it would be nice to have a larger bag with better per-ounce savings. All in all, this is a great food that I would highly recommend to anyone. ... show more

I ordered this food based on a recommendation of a family member. After looking at the ingredients it certainly helped swallowing the cost per bag, but knowing I've giving my dog decent food is worth it. We've given him the food a few days for breakfest and lunch and gobbles the food up in no time. He would eat his other food before but he certainly didn't eat it this fast. "Where's the rest of the food?" My dogs love to root out the delicious freeze dried nibbles first, it makes the dried dog food a little less boring. When it is 100% missing it is 0% fun. Wondering if Amazon is selling sub-par or factory seconds, makes me wonder. I never had a problem before, but I couldn't get ahold of Merrick on their 800 number in regards to this issue, so.....
