I had a pair of Oboz which I loved (they were much more expensive than these). They were waterproof and often my feet would feel damp after an hour or so because the boots didn’t breathe. I thought that was likely an unavoidable consequence of waterproof hiking boots. Then I bought these and they are waterproof but ALSO breathable. Not sure how they did it but I wish I had known about these years ago. They are comfortable, they don’t make my feet sweat or feel damp, and they are cute. In my opinion they are much better than my Oboz which cost a lot more money. There was no break in period. These were comfortable to wear all day long straight out of the box. They have great traction (important because I live in a climate that is very cold and icy most of the year). These are my favorite shoes now. They feel like tennis shoes, very lightweight, but work like hiking boots. And the best part is they don’t leave my feet damp because they are somehow waterproof AND breathable. Plus they are relatively cheap for a good pair of hiking shoes. Definitely recommend these.

all the other hiking shoes and boots i tried didn't have great traction or good insoles for the kind of rugged slippery-rock hiking we have in AZ. even with insoles, my feet would hurt and I'd feel the rocks i was on. these are light on my feet but sure-footed, breathable (my socks were not super-schweaty in 98 degrees), and my feet do not hurt for the first time in ages, even without a break-in. no sign of my plantar fascitis. these have arch support, which help my no-arch flat feet walk correctly. super happy!

Love these shoes. 4 stars because they sent the regular shoe top instead of the mid. They were so comfortable that I didn’t want to send them back and wait another week for the mid heigh which cover the ankle, as shown on Amazon. This would be more stable. I kept them and have worn them every day. I’m retired, so I can wear what I want. I live in a rural area, so they don’t look out of place. They also have kept my feet nice and warm. I almost never find shoes to do that. Well made and sturdy. I ordered another pair hoping to get the right shoe, but were delivered today and wrong again! Will be sending them back. Too bad. Guess I’ll have to buy direct from Merrell. Would highly recommend if they could send the right shoe.

I needed a comfortable pair of hikers to mow my lawn. I had tried a different brand and ended up with really bad blisters. These were so comfortable that even the blisters caused from the other pair of boots, did not hurt wearing these. Highly recommend

If you're buying, check Merrells actual site to make sure you know what you are getting. The particular color I ordered, Falcon, is actually a woman's shoe, not a man's. This ment the shoe came in about 1 1/2 sizes too small.

This is a terrific shoe and I see why it was rated so high for mid weight hiking. I wouldn’t put a lot of weight on my back as they do have some give when stepping over rounded or sharp rocks (you might feel through the sole) but terrific support & I weird them for a week at Acadia National park right out the box. Worked for good grip on smooth granite surfaces and rocky ones too. Not very good on the wet mossy surfaces we encountered but most mid level hikers aren’t (-). Get these , they are now a staple in my house and we will use them all the time on our regular hikes at home ! Oh & I didn’t size up. They fit perfectly on my 7.5 size feet , I wear a 7.5 in all my running shoes also . Get the right medium smart wool or wool blend socks and you are good to go !
