I purchased these Merrell Men's Hiking Boots in anticipation of an upcoming trip to Olympic National Park. As we will be hiking in a rain forest, near the ocean and over rocky terrain, I acquired this waterproof footwear, featuring lug soles, that should provide traction and a degree of ankle support. I am presently test driving them on local trails, wearing wool socks. I'm happy the boots came in a wide width, as they are, so far, very comfortable. I was looking for a boot that could handle a variety of terrain from flat walking paths, city sidewalks to rocky steep trails with heavy roots, mud and the occasional stream. And my feet are wide so I appreciate the extra room across the toe box up front. In my first several weeks with them, they fit nice right out of the box and are holding up well. Pros: Good looking and very comfortable. Sturdy outsole provide great support over rough rocks. Kept my feet dry through wet grass. Cons: Very slippery on wet tiles. Wrong colour shipped.
