I love giving gifts that encourage children to see reading as fun, and this one definitely fits the bill. Also, as someone without children, it can be particularly hard to choose good presents for the children of friends and relatives, and I can honestly say this is a winner! The bundle is super cute, with the book and doll nicely packaged together, and I was really pleased at the size and quality of both the toy and the book. You know how sometimes you order something that looks great on Amazon and then it shows up and is much smaller and shoddier than the pictures? This was not that! The book is a sturdy, well-made hardcover that looks like it'll definitely stand up to sticky fingers and repeated kiddo use, and the doll is as well made as any Barbie. In particular I love that the author is a New York Times Bestseller with a bunch of other book sets, so kids can keep going with the series (making future gifting choices easy for me!). I'd say it's best for a roughly 4-8 age range, and I highly recommend it as an easy gift for those who aren't quite sure what to give. Will definitely be purchasing again in future.

My 5 year old was absolutely thrilled when I gave this to her! She has a fascination with mermaids and all things ocean related. With that being said, the book is the perfect pairing with the mermaid doll to intrigue the imagination. The package arrived exactly 2 days after ordering thanks to Prime! Product was well packaged and easy to see all contents at first glance. Product was easy to remove from packaging without the hassle of too many zip ties or other constraints. We particularly like when it doesn’t take moving a mountain to open a gift. The book is vibrant and held her attention easily to the pictures and words. Particularly enjoyed the naming of the mermaid in the beginning of the book to really make the experience personable for her. It’s not just “another doll” now, it’s her special friend. For $15, I was shocked at the quality of the doll and the durability of the book as well. The mermaid was able to go in the water with no issues to bring the story to life. Loved how the font stood out for specific words through the pages to keep it from being too plain and boring. It helped to keep her eyes on the wording (learning to read!) and not just the pictures. Would recommend as a gift for any occasion. Not just for the mermaid-loving child such as mine, but it makes a great bath time story or night time story before tucking their “mermaid best friend” in with them.

Super cute book! I noticed half way through that there is always both a boy and girl in the story. That is excellent! Any kid would find the colors and illustrations fun and inviting. The book is well put together. I like that it is hardcover. The mermaid toy seems very sturdy and like it will last awhile while being handled. Love the hair and the fact that the back is layered giving it some depth and a "swim" feel. When I first looked at the mermaid, I thought there was an eye tattoo print on her shirt and was trying to figure out if it was a stamp underneath the shirt. But once I saw the book it made sense that it was the seashell! There was one chunk of the hair that fell out at the end like it was left over from trimming it. Overall - it is a great product set!!! I would gift this to any 3+ (as noted for age range) kids who love mermaids.

One day during my babysitting duties for my granddaughter she wanted me to join her in watching her favorite movie about a mermaid. As her birthday was fast approaching and I was at a loss for the perfect gift I searched Amazon and found the best friend mermaid book. After reading the previous reviews I purchased and received it just in time. On her birthday, we opened it together, she was so excited and happy. I was delighted to see the quality of the book, especially it being a hardback cover. She is one rambunctious soul, so this book will hold up well. Plus, the artwork and colors on every page really make it quite special. The little mermaid has become her favorite toy. Now, when I come to visit, she greets me with her little mermaid in hand and the book tucked under her arm. We then settle in for my reading of the book’s prose and elaborate storytelling. The “If Your Best Friend Is a Mermaid”, book and Mermaid Doll have become a very special time for the two of us. For me, a wonderful, cherished memory.

My review of If Your Best Friend is a Mermaid by Adam Wallace: First and foremost I would like to start this review off by complimenting the beautifully crafted illustrations and vivid colors used in this children’s book. These details overall enhance the book’s appearance and make it more appealing. I like that this book could be very versatile, such as it could be a quick read before bed or you could make it into an interactive book where your child finds all of the highlighted words as you both read. I especially loved that the main characters were a young girl and a young boy because typically mermaid themes are only advertised to girls. My overall favorite part of this book is that it includes the mermaid doll in the ending. A fun recommendation would be to read the book first and bring the doll out after as a surprise. I can tell a lot of effort went into making this book and bravo to the author and illustrators. What a pleasant read.
