  • Good Toy
Color: Railroad
This is a great quiet toy that my daughter will play with all by herself. She is 3 and able to set up all by herself and she can put it away easily too. Very entertaining!

  • Very sturdy construction
Color: Town
This is a fun play set. The box itself is wooden and has held up to a year in preK. The hinges look flimsy, but so far, they are still intact. All the play pieces are very sturdy and cute to play with. Everything fits inside the box for storage.

  • Solid construction. Anticipating lots of fun. Great beginner set. Solid construction. Anticipating lots of fun. Great beginner set.

Melissa & Doug have done it again! I have two boys (2.5 and 3.5 yrs old). Their birthdays are just a couple months away, and we decided to get them a train table with the full M&D track. BUT, I wanted to ease them into it -- as they've never really played with trains before. I saw this take-along version and thought it'd be a perfect lead in. The plan is for it to be open and set-up under the tree on Xmas morning, so I can't yet tell you how the kids react. But I just played with it for a good 20 minutes.. if that tells you anything. Here are my pros and cons right out of the box. Pros: 1) VERY solid construction. What I've come to expect from M&D. Wood is thick and sturdy. Clasps and hinges feel strong and durable. 2) Nice finish/paint job on the track itself. A few minor imperfections, but overall, consistent and well done. 3) Buildings/decor painted on both sides. Some sets I've seen have only one side painted. This looks good from all angles. 4) Even without any decor/buildings, it is fun to use the track. My youngest is on the spectrum and not always the most gentle or purposeful with toys. I like that I can teach him how to push the cars before messing with the decor -- but can add those pieces easily for his older brother. Cons: 1) 2 cars travel great together, but you'll get an occasional derailment on turns with 3 cars travelling as a unit. Not a huge issue at all, but worth noting. 2) While the sliding gondola is a cute touch as a moveable element, within a day I imagine it would cause paint to wear off the 'mountaintop.' I doubt I'll give it to my kids -- at least not any time soon. 3) I really wish the inside had compartments for the pieces. There's so much space that all the pieces will just be banging/jangling around in there -- should you actually use this for travel. I will probably wrap pieces in a small dish towel when storing them to negate this. ... show more

  • Convenient clean up and fun set
Color: Railroad
My son loved this. Got it as one of his Christmas presents. He is 3 years old and he totally dug it. Everything fits back inside for easy cleanup and it is a very intuitive addition to a fun set that this folds upon itself with everything inside. Definitely recommend if your kid is into trains and toy cars and stuff like that. Very high quality build and you can tell this can take a beating. ... show more

  • Has it all..and more!
Color: Town
Oh wow, where to start with the Melissa & Doug Wooden Take-Along Tabletop Town? This toy is a game-changer for playtime in our house. First off, the quality is exactly what you'd expect from Melissa & Doug—solid, sturdy wood, no fear of it breaking anytime soon. The 18 pieces are a mix of buildings, vehicles, and even a little bridge, which means there's a ton of variety to keep my kiddo's imagination running wild. We've had countless rescue missions and road trips across the living room—and that's all before lunchtime! I love the size of it, too. At 15.4 x 11.0 x 2.6 inches, it's perfect for small hands and easy enough to pack up and take on the go. Whether we're off to grandma's or just dinner at a friend's place, it keeps my little one entertained and quiet, which is a total win. The fact that it's a tabletop set-up means no more bending over to pick up pieces from the floor (my back thanks you, Melissa & Doug). And adding to that, the setup and pack-down are super simple—everything fits back into the play board which doubles as a storage case. Honestly, it's a breath of fresh air to find a toy that doesn't involve screens or annoying sound effects. It's all about creative play, problem-solving, and fine motor skill development. And the rescue vehicles? Total hit. My kid feels like a hero every play session, and it's wonderful to watch. Seriously, if you're on the fence about getting this for your child, I'd say go for it. The Melissa & Doug Take-Along Tabletop Town has been an awesome addition to our toy collection, and I have a feeling it's going to be well-loved for years to come. ... show more

  • Great invention for limited space. Made well
Color: Railroad
My son loves this. I purchased this for my child’s 2nd Christmas because it is compact and he has a love of trains. I bought the pack of Melissa and Doug trains to add to it. It is worth the price. It holds up really well for being banged around by a toddler. You get what you pay for. It is nice to see things made of quality. I prefer that over poorly made junk. ... show more

  • Trains on the go!
Color: Railroad
Awesome for traveling!! My 3 year old is obsessed with trains but has so many pieces and accessories that the only place to play with it is at home. When I saw this I instantly knew it would be a hit. Love that everything is stored in its own carry case. Do wish it was a tad bigger but overall brilliant idea and construction. Material is solid and really like there are 4 trains, 2 just isn’t enough. Quick to set up and put away. ... show more

Quality constructed, wooden toy set that assembles easily. The board folds open and acts as a storage case. The case has a metal folding clasp keeping the board tightly shut. The magnet strength holds the cars together well, and can be pulled along the track without disconnecting. The 18-piece set comes with a colorful variety which can be placed in a variety of places on the board. The interior of the board has a few ideas of how to play adding to the learning environment. Melissa and Doug make quality, well constructed toys and you can confidently add this one to the list. ... show more
