It’s twice the fun at the Star Diner! This sturdy, double-sided wooden play space lets kids cook and serve from the kitchen side, and order and enjoy a meal on the booth side. The kitchen, with an extra-large oven, realistic burners and dials, a two-shelf refrigerator, and plenty of counter space has fun details like a drink dispenser and milkshake maker with mixing rod that can be pushed up and down. At the two-seat booth, customers three and older can spin the jukebox dial to choose their favorite type of music, then drop the included coin in the slot—and the coin lands in a collection tray on the other side!

Of all of our wonderful toys this is the crowning glory. Many children of different ages come to play and enjoy this delightful and well-made little diner. They simply cannot get enough of it. We did outfit ours rather extravagantly With both of the Melissa and Doug diner sets, maple syrup and cream caddies, the wonderful hotdog mustard and so on. We ended up having to get two sets of the Melissa and Doug chef outfits, the kids love them. It was quite a splurge but worth every penny. The kids especially love the way it is all set up to flow the way a real restaurant would. This charming and sturdy toy delights the whole family. It encourages highly interactive and imaginative play. I recommend a soothing and centering meditation before beginning the assembly! It’s quite well-designed but does take patience and some elbow grease to put it together. We added this to the corner where we already have a wooden play kitchen and angled them to create a happy corner for play. Before we committed to buying this the kids helped me sort out the dimensions and how it would fit into our place space. I think it’s a wonderful design; we did have limited room for and it fits absolutely perfectly. It’s not overwhelmingly huge. I would recommend if you are going to go for the diner to invest in the adorable accessories as well. There are two Melissa and Doug diner accessory sets, they are both great. The condiment caddies, the lovely Melissa and Doug tea set, and the drinks set with the little menus that come with them all Go so well with this. Come to think of it we got there amazing pasta and salad sets too. Again, the amount and quality of play this has all engendered as a made it absolutely worth the expense. Our daughter is almost 3 and loves the idea of a customer. 😂 This was the perfect Christmas gift. It took us about 2 hours to put together start to finish. The instructions are very easy to understand and everything came together well. It’s great quality and our daughter is obsessed with the coin/jukebox feature. The only thing I would recommend is purchasing a set of play food to go along with it since it doesn’t come with any. It’s a really fun gift and think we’ll get some years out of it. ... show more

This is a great addition to our playroom/preschool classroom we are creating in our basement for our immunocompromised son. He is 3 but on the shorter side and this is the perfect height, he can easily reach things. His 6 year old cousin will be able to play with it to as it won't be too small for her. We have the melissa and doug vet center and this by far was easier to assemble than that one. We bought the accessory pack and some of the melissa and doug fake food to go along with this new center. I wish they would have included with the center a few more accessories, but they know how to market and make $ so I don't blame them for not adding it in. If you don't have any accessories you definitely will need to buy some to make this set more enjoyable. I also wish the drink dispenser had noise, the shake stirrer doesnt work when you push the button, you just have to pretend its mixing, which was hard for my 3 year to be okay with.. if there is a button to push he assumes something will happen. Dimensions are accurate and it is sturdy. I did wait to purchase this when it was on sale because full price I think is too steep. ... show more

I got this on sale prior to Christmas through Amazon (MUCH less expensive than going directly through Melissa and Doug) It is adorable!!!! Took some time to put together but directions were clear. The two sided design works well and is so clever. It really doesn’t take up that much room. Be sure to order the Diner food kit that goes with it ... show more

I think this diner set is pretty great, but we received two that had the same defect. For one of the screw types, all of the holes were too small. All other screws fit, just not these 8 screws, and I checked the directions like 5 times to make sure I had the right screw. It’s item 27, the metal bracket screw, there is no way the manufactures meant to drill such a small hole for this screw. Also, the Amazon site said this item would take 2 days, but it actually took 7 or 8 days. The reason we have two is that the first one ended out taking so long that they sent a second. TLDR: Just spend the extra $75 and buy this from Target or whatever if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of having to re-still holes and wait for shipping. Edit: we had to drill larger holes, but we got it set up and it’s adorable. The directions are pretty clear, but it was a pain to put together because of the screw issue.
