Description

It’s twice the fun at the Star Diner! This sturdy, double-sided wooden play space lets kids cook and serve from the kitchen side, and order and enjoy a meal on the booth side. The kitchen, with an extra-large oven, realistic burners and dials, a two-shelf refrigerator, and plenty of counter space has fun details like a drink dispenser and milkshake maker with mixing rod that can be pushed up and down. At the two-seat booth, customers three and older can spin the jukebox dial to choose their favorite type of music, then drop the included coin in the slot—and the coin lands in a collection tray on the other side!

Of all of our wonderful toys this is the crowning glory. Many children of different ages come to play and enjoy this delightful and well-made little diner. They simply cannot get enough of it. We did outfit ours rather extravagantly With both of the Melissa and Doug diner sets, maple syrup and cream caddies, the wonderful hotdog mustard and so on. We ended up having to get two sets of the Melissa and Doug chef outfits, the kids love them. It was quite a splurge but worth every penny. The kids especially love the way it is all set up to flow the way a real restaurant would. This charming and sturdy toy delights the whole family. It encourages highly interactive and imaginative play. I recommend a soothing and centering meditation before beginning the assembly! It’s quite well-designed but does take patience and some elbow grease to put it together. We added this to the corner where we already have a wooden play kitchen and angled them to create a happy corner for play. Before we committed to buying this the kids helped me sort out the dimensions and how it would fit into our place space. I think it’s a wonderful design; we did have limited room for and it fits absolutely perfectly. It’s not overwhelmingly huge. I would recommend if you are going to go for the diner to invest in the adorable accessories as well. There are two Melissa and Doug diner accessory sets, they are both great. The condiment caddies, the lovely Melissa and Doug tea set, and the drinks set with the little menus that come with them all Go so well with this. Come to think of it we got there amazing pasta and salad sets too. Again, the amount and quality of play this has all engendered as a made it absolutely worth the expense. Our daughter is almost 3 and loves the idea of a customer. 😂 This was the perfect Christmas gift. It took us about 2 hours to put together start to finish. The instructions are very easy to understand and everything came together well. It’s great quality and our daughter is obsessed with the coin/jukebox feature. The only thing I would recommend is purchasing a set of play food to go along with it since it doesn’t come with any. It’s a really fun gift and think we’ll get some years out of it. ... show more

The diner was packaged nicely. I did however have an issue with a couple boards from the courier, but Melissa and Doug's staff provided me with excellent customer service and came through with a replacement just in time (gift for my grandson). I can't say enough wonderful things about this company! I was so grateful that they came through for me. The instructions are incredibly well written and correspond perfectly with the parts. It does take a bit to put together but is clearly worth it. My grandson (3 1/2 years old) has so much fun with it. I was so happy that I purchased a second one for my house for all our grandkids (ages 5, 4, 3 and 2) to play together- they all like it a lot) It's been a great addition to the playroom. ... show more

This diner kitchen set was a huge hit with both of my granddaughters, ages 1 1/2 and 3. They both played with it non stop at Christmas time and it was cute that one could be doing the cooking while the other sat on the booth side. I have bought a lot of play kitchens, this is by far my favorite. I will post some pictures of them playing today with it. My daughter assembled it for me. I would say it took about 45 minutes too. She said it wasn't too bad and all the parts fit together easily. Also want to mention I was nervous the seats would be flimsy and I'd be nervous with them sitting on them. But they are very stable and both my granddaughters are able to sit there. The only thing I can say I didn't like, is there is a bit of a "chemical smell" to it that Im hoping will air out over time. I dont know if its the particle board they use or what but I did notice that. ... show more

This diner is *adorable*!!! I bought this for my big present to my almost 3 year old for Christmas and it has gotten played with every single day. It's very giftable for the price. The instructions were incredibly thorough making it easy to assemble. We bought some little adhesive push lights for the fridge and oven because the corner it's in is kind of dark. So far, it feels very sturdy! My little guy loves the color red and this is his favorite thing in the house now. We also bought the diner playset to go with it and that is perfect, too. ... show more

I spent hours this afternoon putting this together; directions and pictures were helpful but pay attention to which screws you are using. There are flat ends and the pointy ones are for the metal brackets. Yep, had to switch some out. It's a cute diner but darn it, I didn't notice the damage and defects until it was all put together. Found a crack in one of the seats, same seat front edge looks like M&D tried to paint the defect, and as someone else noted in their review the diner sign slots into two holes on the top but you have to flex it slightly to place it and remove it. Trying to readjust it, it sprang out and took a small chunk out of the countertop. Contacted Amazon and since it won't fit into the original packaging they would not offer an exchange for same item. Darn again! Wanted it for grandkids tomorrow anyway so I guess I'll keep it defects and all. Not happy! Update since writing this review. Contacts Melissa and Doug directly. They were apologetic and also could not do anything about the defects but they did offer a compensatory item which I appreciated. Upped to 4 stars ... show more
