We bought a set of these 4 in 1 puzzles (train, race car, fire truck & bus) for our son when he was 4 and he still loves them (he's now 5) so we bought this set of construction vehicles and he loves them too! We really need quiet things for him to do at church and I love that I can throw each one in a ziplock bag and bring them with us easily. These might be too easy for some 5-6 year olds (our son is autistic) but I think they'd be a safe bet for ages 3-5 for sure. Here's what's great about it: - Quality. That's something I've come to rely on with Melisa and Doug and they don't disappoint with this one. I would say it's a small step down in terms of quality from some of their others, but really, for the price you pay, what you get is really great! The wood box is well made, the pieces are not flimsy and the pictures don't peel up at the corners of the pieces like many puzzles. - Good price for FOUR puzzles! - Probably my favorite part about this puzzle is something I was stressing about from the moment I saw it. I was envisioning my boy dumping ALL the pieces out at once and me having a horrible time trying to sort which piece goes with which picture and in which compartment. Fortunately the clever people at Melissa and Doug thought of that and put a different red shape on the back of every single puzzle piece so you can easily figure out which go together based which have a circle, which have a square etc. That actually makes for fun clean up because it involves sorting! Nice work M&D! - The lid also serves as a removable puzzle building frame with plenty of room to work. While these puzzles can easily be assembled without the backing (as long as you're doing it on a hard surface like the table or wood floor), it's nice to have that feature. All in all I think these are darling little puzzles and I can definitely recommend! I didn't get a discount or anything like that. ... show more

Our little construction-site foreman (just turned 4) can’t get enough of these vehicle puzzles, and here’s why other parents might love them too: Fun for kids / Challenge level: Four to six chunky pieces per puzzle strike that sweet spot—easy enough for independent play, but still a mini “aha!” moment when the cement mixer finally clicks together. Color palette: Bright yellows, reds, and blues help each vehicle stand out (and double-up as a color-matching lesson). Fit: The pieces nest snugly; no wobbly gaps, and they don’t fall out when he proudly holds the board overhead to show us his masterpiece. Sturdiness: Solid wood all around—these have taken tumbles off the table and a few “bulldozer pushes” across the floor with zero dings. Fun puzzle factor: Each board features a different truck shape, so there’s plenty of variety without feeling overwhelming. He now shouts “Excavator!” before he’s even halfway done. Tiny heads-up: The storage tray lid pops off pretty easily, so we keep a small zip bag inside for traveling. Not a deal-breaker—just keeps rogue wheels from disappearing under the couch. Bottom line: Bright, sturdy, and just challenging enough—these puzzles rev up fine-motor skills and keep our kiddo happily “working on site” while we sip a warm coffee. I bought these construction puzzles for my 4 yr old truck loving grandson. He was so excited when he saw these puzzles! He knew the names of all 4 and couldn’t wait to put them together. Melissa & Doug toys are the best; this puzzle set exceeded my high expectation from previous M & D purchases. The box is sturdy. I love how the top makes a nice border to put each puzzle together. The puzzle pieces are smooth and went together easily. My grandson had no trouble fitting pieces together and quickly picked up on putting puzzle pieces back in their “ cubby” as he called it. He had so much fun figuring out which piece went where; challenging but colors were so rich he had no problem looking at the picture and noticing tires or other parts to see if they fit together. I love that he enjoyed an activity that had nothing to do with a screen and he was having so much fun he didn’t want to go home when Mom came to pick him up. I highly recommend M & D puzzles. They are challenging without being frustrating. The puzzle pieces are sturdy and should last through the next Grands that come along. I’m planning to buy one of the other sets soon ... show more

I purchased these puzzles for my digger obsessed 2.5 yo. They are his first "real" puzzles with interlocking pieces (as opposed to shapes that fit in a similar shaped hole) and he needed some help with them at first but within days he was doing them 100% on his own. Our set was well made with no splintering wood and no duplicate or missing pieces. The box is sturdy and well made and great for keeping the puzzles organized and portable for travel. I love that he can do them on the little "tray" which is ideal if we don't have a flat/hard surface handy. The puzzles are on the smaller size but the pieces are still large enough for a toddler to manipulate easily and not so small they are a choking hazard for babies. The interlocking parts are very similar shaped so it is possible to connect the "wrong" pieces in a way that physically fits but leaves the picture jumbled, but I don't find that too problematic considering how much value is in the package. I do anticipate the picture will get very worn with use, but that's to be expected. We love these! ... show more

My 2-year old is enchanted with his new consruchun puzzle, or rather, 4 construction puzzles. He takes out pieces from one section, turns them right side up and puts the pieces with a flat side in a spot separate from pieces with no flat side. Melissa & Doug are great teachers!
