  • Great Line of Toys
The babies loved it. It was easy to slide the wood balls along the wires. Very colorful, very safe for the youngsters. We would venture to say that all Melissa & Doug toys are great - we have never bought one that the kids didn't like. Keep up the good work, M&D!

  • Great for learning colors, watch out child may try to bite the metal
First I think it is important to say that this product is made in China. It is a great toy, made of wood with wooden beads etc. But despite having a very American sounding company name (Melissa and Doug) it is not an American product. Why does this matter? Well, my daughter (10 months old) does try to bite the blocks and metal tracks. I know it says 1+ on the item, but I noticed many other reviewers buying this toy for a younger than 1 year old child. I am sure however, that in two months time, she will still try to bite the toy. If the product was made in America I might not be worried. But having been made in China, and knowing their low standards and the few and far in between product quality checks for baby toys coming from China... Well, play at your own risk. Second, the toy comes with instructions on how to play with your child. Namely, you can name the colors with them, and get them to count the colors etc. I though this was very helpful, and my daughter has been enjoying learning. She can not move the beads along the tracks yet, but she can touch them and get them to spin around. I think this toy will be a favorite for years to come. My only regret is that I did not find one made in America. ... show more

  • Fun for years to come
I purchased this for my grandson now that he is showing signs of enjoying sorting and puzzles. This is a fairly large item, so it will take up a bit of space. I put it on top of a bookcase shelf and I pull it down for him to play with during the day. At nineteen months, he is well able to move the beads from one side to the middle or from the middle to a side. So far, he has not caught on to moving the beads the entire length. I had a similar bead maze when my children were young. It was made in Europe and was very, very expensive. It lasted for years and I finally gave it to a friend who had younger children when my kids became too old to want to play with it. This type of toy is one that can last for years if it is cared for. I was very pleased to find it on Amazon at such a reasonable price (plus I got it on sale, so the savings were even better.) ... show more

  • Great learning toy!
I purchased this for my daughter's 2nd birthday and I'm so happy that I did! At a recent trip to the Doctor's office they had a similar toy like this in the waiting room and my daughter played with that toy the whole time we were there. So I went on a search to find something like it and I ran across this toy. She absolutely loves this and has been playing with it everyday since her birthday. This is not only a toy to them but a Learning toy which makes me feel great about her playing with it. It's actually bigger then I thought it was going to be, which is nice because they don't get their little hands caught up in it. I had purchased a different brand before this one and it was much smaller and her little hands would get stuck in it. This is not the case with this one. I'm very happy with my purchase and I would definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Very Nice Classic Bead Maze
Bought this for my daughter for Christmas when she was 18 months old. I was pleasantly surprised with the size. I thought it would have beens smaller but it is a really nice size. The wires seem to be in there nice and sturdy. I carry it from room to room by the top wire and it's not loose. The beads look nice and the wooden bottom is nice, not splintery or anything. Generally it looks and feels of very good quality. My daugher doesn't really like it, though. I actually delayed buying this because I figured she wouldn't really like it when she was younger because she wouldn't know what to do with it. But now that she is older she seems kind of bored with it. She doesn't want to sit still long enough and play with it. She doesn't really have much of an imagination yet either, so maybe when that develops a little bit more she will like it more and play "roller coaster" or something with it. Or maybe we can use it to teach her counting and shapes and colors later on. I can see its potential. Right now though, the most attention this toy gets is a minute or so before she is done with it. That's not the toys fault though, she just doesn't care for much right now. ... show more

  • 6 Month Old Loves This
Our 6 month old loves this. It’s pretty durable as it often ends up getting flipped over by larger kids. It’s perfect for a baby or toddler and is a decent size.

  • Great quiet toy
Excellent quiet toy. Gave one to my 2 yo and gifted another to a 12 mo. The 12 mo is still figuring out what to do with it but my 2 yo can sit down with it for quiet a while. And it's a nice nostalgic moment for me of my old pediatrician's waiting room.

  • My son enjoys it and makes for great listening/motor skills exercises
We bought this for my two and a half year old son and the quality, overall is good. We did have to return the original one because there was some of the coating missing on one of the wires, but Amazon made the return/exchange easy and painless. I like that there are suggestions on how to get the most out of the bead maze - like racing, giving instructions (move a square bead, more a yellow bead, etc.). I use it as a listening exercise sometimes, especially if we are having "one of those days" where my child acts as if he cannot hear a word I am saying. He thinks we are playing a game, so in the end we both win! I originally wanted to order a larger activity cube with a bead maze on top, but I just couldn't have a cube that had the activities I wanted plus a decent maze, so we decided to just buy the maze for now. I'm really happy we did! ... show more
