    • Does the job but a bit delicate
Overall I'm pleased with the cold frame. It's all wooden and metal parts with no plastic parts (except for the insulating polycarbonate windows). Assembling the unit was a bit challenging. Aside from just a few exceptions there are no pilot holes drilled in to the thin softwood parts. I drilled lots of pilot holes as it seems like a sure bet that without them the various wooden rails would split. Assembling the unit does take some skill--mostly for aligning the parts and drilling the holes. I would also caution buyers to not over tighten the wood screws (like when using a power screwdriver) as cracking the wood is likely. I would put it as requiring a medium skill level for wood working to assemble it. The wood is stained but not sealed so I would recommend sealer eventually to get some years out of it. I subtracted one star because it has no floor so there is nothing to force the corners to be square and is quite wobbly. I added a floor of half-inch exterior plywood and now it's much more stable. It's very light and easy to move but it is also flimsy so it has to be treated delicately. Still, for the price I'm happy with it as I hope to save my outdoor cactus from frostbite. ... show more
