Will it cover the 40m, 20m and 10m bands? Yes. The SW-28HF covers 1.5 to 60MHz, which takes in 7MHz, 14MHz and 28MHz along with the rest of the HF spectrum and the CB channels. It reads forward power, reflected power and VSWR across that whole range. I run 100W. Is that within the rating? The meter is rated to 120W maximum, so a 100W transceiver sits inside that figure. Check what your radio is actually set to output before connecting, since running above the rated input can damage the meter. Will it work on VHF or UHF as well? No. The range is 1.5 to 60MHz, so 2m, 70cm and anything else above 60MHz fall outside it. Those bands need a meter designed for that frequency range, and this one will not read them correctly. Does it need external power? No. It has an internal lithium battery rated at more than 50 hours per charge, which is why it suits portable and field work. The battery tops up through the USB-C port on the front panel using the supplied lead. How do I connect it? It wires in line between the radio and the antenna: the transceiver goes to the TX socket and the feedline to the ANT socket. Connect it while taking readings and unhook it afterwards rather than leaving it in the run permanently.
